I already checked updates on the WSUS console and all approved updates have File status «Ready for install». The .cab-files mentioned in the SoftwareDistribution.log does not exist but i cannot see which updates failed to download.

We also use Secunia CSI to update applications like Adobe Flash through WSUS.

Question

I am getting this error and Alert on My WSUS Server. Anyone know what should be region and Troubleshooting for this.

Windows Server Update Services

The server is failing to download some updates.

Answers

The updates that I declined, were updates set to auto approve. In the list of the updates that I declined, were very old Forefront updates. Once I declined them, WSUS re-synchronized and I got the latest updates.

Might I suggest that if you are using auto-approval rules for Forefront Client Security definition updates that you should be using the Server Cleanup Wizard on a WEEKLY basis. The SCW will fix this problem for you. Generally speaking, Definition Updates are expired when replaced; this allows the SCW to decline/delete these expired updates automatically.

In addition, declining updates (or not declining them) does not have any impact on WSUS synchronization or the availability of the latest updates, so I’m not quite sure what it is that you are describing.

And you still have the reality that you declined updates that were being reported as NEEDED, which means some systems somewhere are likely still missing patches.

On your WSUS server, please do the following steps:

1. Open My Computer.

2. Find the drive that contains the WSUSContent folder.

3. Right click on the drive and select «Sharing and Security».

4. Select the Security tab.

6. Click on Advanced.

7. Verify that «From this location» is set to the local machine.

8. Click on Find Now.

9. Scroll down the list until you find NETWORK SERVICE.

10. Select NETWORK SERVICE.

13. Verify the default permissions (Read&Execute | List Folder Contents | Read) are selected.

I did it step by step but still I am getting this error in my WSUS server. and a more event Id is occurring with it that is

Do not know if you still need help, or hopefully this helps others.

I had the same problem, andto resolve it, I went to the All Updates tabin the WSUS MMC. In the approvals pain,I filtered it to «Any Except Declined» and filtered to «Failed orNeeded»

Once this was displayed, right click on the Title bar, and ensure File Status is selected.

I then filtered the view of the updates, and saw 21 updates that failed to download. I deleted these updates, and my WSUS downloaded all updates needed.

I then filtered the view of the updates, and saw 21 updates that failed to download. I deleted these updates, and my WSUS downloaded all updates needed.

Truly, I am curious as to how you «deleted» these updates, since that functionality is not possible in the WSUS console.

Also. do you know for a fact that none of these 21 updates were actually needed by any systems? Since they were downloading, suggests that somebody had actually marked them as APPROVED, which suggests that some systems somewhere actually NEEDS these updates!

The correct resolution to this issue is to identify WHY the updates are not downloading — there is actually a very short and well-known list of causes, all of which can be identified from the full text of the entry in the Application Event Log of the WSUS Server — and FIX the cause.

In the case of this particular thread, sufficient diagnostic information was not provided in order to identify the cause or the resolution, but the resolution most certainly is not to delete (sic) (or even Decline!) updates.

Sorry, I meant to say decline.

The updates that I declined, were updates set to auto approve. In the list of the updates that I declined, were very old Forefront updates. Once I declined them, WSUS re-synchronized and I got the latest updates.

I therefore did not lose any critical updates for the past day.

TheApplication Even Log for WSUS only had an error stating that «The server is failing to download some updates».
