Can i view a Link with ActiveX on Ubuntu?

No. ActiveX controls work only with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, and that in turn works only under Windows.

Your options are to (a) dual boot with both Ubuntu and Windows or (b) install virtualization software such as VirtualBox and then install Windows in a virtual machine running inside that software. It’s remotely possible that you might (c) install Wine and get it to work, but that’s a long shot.

However i don’t understand why you mention the «WIN» will be longer than install Windows inside ubuntu?

I believe this is really big weakness in Linux systems!

No, it is not usable directly in Linux. Not having activeX, a known attack point for malware, is a huge security plus for Linux in my opinion.

Sure it is a minor inconvenience having to dual boot or virtualize an install of Windows to access sites that use activeX (an otherwise proprietory MS product).

+1 for JKyleOKC’s suggestions for how to access sites that use it, they should work well (not sure about Wine though, I’ve had too many problems with IE under Wine in the past, even JKyleOKC notes it is a long shot).

This presumes that Linux is a free VERSION of Windows — which it is NOT.

Linux is a free ALTERNATIVE to Windows.

The fact that ANYTHING from Windows will work in Linux systems (i.e., through the use of Wine) is nothing short of amazing.

When i migrate to linux, i was very happy thinking am free from MS slavery..thought will never return back. today am in the middle of the road, i want to use IPCAM, and none in the market work without ActiveX..

I was thinking that it’s matter of time and all the world will turn to Linux .. now when i discover the shorten of most of the devises drivers. i have to admit the sad fact . we can’t live without MS..

There are alternative software and apps that can also do and show IPCAM on NORMAL non Microsoft browsers.

it will either be in the form of Flash, or Java

just search for them.

you can also configure the IPCAM to upload the pictures/video clips to a remote storage, then you can access them with any video player

they usually use FTP, which is very straight forward.

if none of that are an option in the IPCAM, then it was a really low cost IPCAM and you basically got what you paid for.

even the low cost IPCAM from Dlink or Linksys or any other cheap brand can stream video without the need of Active X components.

you can always try to find aftermarket Firmware upgrade for the IPCAM and see if it can stream the videos / pictures using conventional means and not Active X

ActiveX насколько я понимаю это практически те же dll
А в Линуксе такого формата, естественно, нет.

Wine — так придется Лиса виндовского целиком через него запускать. Не думаю, что это добавит скорости и стабильности. Если вообще запустится.

Практически не отличается. Celeron 2.0, 256 Mb.

При регистрации на WebMany Firefox 1.5.0.3 не загружает ActiveX и в настройках про это вообще не сказанно, по этой причине работать с WebMany через него нельзя, как быть?

Wine-enabled Web browser with ActiveX

CodeWeavers, the company behind the popular Wine-based CrossOver software for running Windows-based games and office software on Linux and Mac OS X, is preparing to release some sort of new web browser.
In the quarterly newsletter that they send out to their customers, the e-mail sent out this morning mentions a «Wine-Enabled Web Browser» as part of «What’s New In Product Development.»
The email says, «In addition, we are working on creating a new Wine-enabled Web browser that will be able to take the place of Internet Explorer. By mating Wine support for ActiveX controls with a new browser, users will be able to navigate to pages that were previously only accessible using IE. This browser is currently in early alpha development (translation: it’s really ugly right at the moment) but is available for limited customer testing, (for those with a masochistic bent. )»

Простой пример создания ActiveX-control на Qt

Введение

Мне была поставлена задача разработать некий ActiveX-control. Так как основным языком программирования для разработки у нас используется C++, то C# не рассматривался. Я решил выбрать Qt, так как он мне интересен.

Создание ActiveX объектов на Qt достаточно простой процесс, в примерах к QtCreator есть несколько вариантов, показывающих как можно использовать ActiveQt (например этот).

При написании компонента пришлось много времени потратить на поиск ответов на казалось бы простые вопросы, по крупицам их собирать. В результате я получил, что требовалось и решил написать простой пример, чтобы ускорить процесс старта разработки ActiveX-control другим.

Сразу обращу внимание, что не описываю всю технологию ActiveQt, подробную информацию можно получить в документации Qt Assistant и в интернете (например здесь), это пример и пара интересных на мой взгляд моментов.

Начало

Итак, для начала устанавливаем QtSDK (я выбрал коммерческую версию в связке с MS VisualStudio 2010).

Создаем пустой проект. В качестве примера создадим ActiveX-control с цифровыми часами (возьмем пример отсюда).

Добавляем в наш проект класс цифровых часов.
Добавляем файл main.cpp, в нем создадим класс, унаследованный от QAxFactory. Этот класс реализовывает фабрику, предоставляющую информацию об элементах управления и создает их по запросу.

Если захотим в библиотеку добавить другие классы, то нужно подключить их заголовочные файлы и добавить описание в класс ActiveQtFactory

Теперь доработаем класс Clock для экспортирования его метаданных:
В заголовок добавим макрос для динамической библиотеки

Добавим информацию о классе

Для каждого класса необходимо указывать свои ClassID, InterfaceID, EventsID.

Заключительный момент, скорректируем файл проекта

Компилируем, получаем библиотеку.
Это все описано в документации, теперь несколько дополнений, ради которых собственно я и решил написать статью.

Добавить свойство

Необходимо добавить экспортное свойство класса. Для примера возьмем некое name;

Методы добавляются через публичные слоты в классе Clock:

Событие, реакцию на которое вы хотите реализовать в алгоритме использующем AXControl, добавляется через сигналы, ниже пример, правда из другого класса:

Библиотека Qt отличная вещь, может очень многое, нужно учится ее готовить.

Install ActiveX Control in Firefox, Chrome

The component can only work at the IE6/7/8/9/10. If you want to use it at the Mozila Firefox, you need to install the ActiveX control support in the FireFox.

Microsoft created ActiveX for the Internet Explorer browser to properly play various types of media. Although the tool was designed specifically for Internet Explorer, when using FireFox, you will sometimes come across a website instructing you to install ActiveX to view media properly. For that reason, Mozilla has created a plug-in that will allow ActiveX to be enabled in Firefox.

To test the demo page on our site, please add the website at the IE trust Site List.

To work with the FireFox or chrome, you need to use the ff-ActiveX-host or IE Tab Plus or other add-ons.

For IE Tab, you can open the FireFox, click the «manage Addon», search the IE Tab 2. Install it. When you visit a page, you can click the «Use IE Tab to browser the page» option in the right click menu.

More Solutions

Right-click on the icon you use to launch Internet Explorer and select Run as Administrator. Choose to Allow this operation if prompted.

Now, go to your web site

Click «The site might require the following ActiveX control: Edraw Office Viewer Component from Edraw Limited, Click here to install.» on the bar.

Click Install officeviewer.cab when the security warning comes up.

If you can not see the Internet Information Security Bar:

You may have turned off the Information Bar. It will need to be turned on to successfully install our ActiveX control.

1.Right-click on the icon you use to launch Internet Explorer and select Run as Administrator. Choose to Allow this operation if prompted.
2.Once in Internet Explorer browser, click Tools in the upper toolbar or click on the Tools icon and select Internet Options.
3.In Internet Explorer browser, click Tools in the upper toolbar or click on the Tools icon and select Internet Options.
4.Click the Security tab.
5.Click Custom Level.
6.Scroll down to the ActiveX Controls and Plug-ins section.
7.Change Download Signed ActiveX Controls to PROMPT.
8.Close Internet Explorer then re-open Internet Explorer.
9.Return to your web site.
You should see the Information Bar below the Internet Explorer Address Bar, with the message «The site might require the following ActiveX control ‘officeviewer.cab’. Click here to install.»
10.Click anywhere on the bar.
11.Click Install officeviewer.cab when the security warning comes up.

If you don’t have administrator access rights:

Ask your system administrator to log into your computer as a user with Administrator user rights.

Have your administrator log into your project website and install the ActiveX control.
If you have done all of the above, have Windows Administrator access, and still cannot load the ActiveX Control, you will need to check the settings on your Internet Explorer. It may have been set up so that it does not allow downloads to your computer.

Add Your Project Web Site to IE Trusted Sites

1.In Internet Explorer browser, click Tools in the upper toolbar or click on the Tools icon and select Internet Options.
2.Click the Security tab and select the Trusted Sites zone.
3.Click the Sites button.
4.Under «Add this Web site to the zone:» type your project web site.
5.Click Add, then click OK.

Check your Security Settings in Internet Explorer

1.In Internet Explorer browser, click Tools in the upper toolbar or click on the Tools icon and select Internet Options.
2.Click the Security tab and select the Trusted sites zone.
3.Click the Custom Level button.
4.Under ActiveX control and plug-ins check the followings:

1. Allow Scriptlets set to Enable
2. Automatic Prompting for ActiveX controls set to Enable.
3. Binary and Script behaviors set to Enable
4. Download signed ActiveX controls set to Prompt
5. Download unsigned ActiveX controls set to Prompt
6. Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe set to Disable
7. Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins set to Enable
8. Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting set to Enable

Click OK
5.Click the Advanced tab in the security section and make sure that Do not save encrypted pages to disk is not checked.
6.Click OK.
7.Close the browser window launch IE and attempt to install ActiveX.

Manual Installation of ActiveX

If all else fails you can try our manual installation tool. You need regsvr32 the officeviewer.ocx file. Then put the EDOfficeViewerX.dll in the same file folder with the officeviewer.ocx file.

1. Create a text file then change the file extend name as .bat.

2. In the file, you can type: regsvr32 «c:\test\officeviewer.ocx»

3. Save and close the file.

4. Right click the bat file then Run it as administrator.
