How to install Creative Suite 5 or 5.5

Before you begin

Before you download, keep your serial number handy. You can find your serial number in your purchase confirmation email, and in your account. Learn how to find your serial number.

Each component has its own serial number. Master Collection has an additional serial number for Color Finesse. If you purchased an upgrade, use a qualifying serial number to complete the installation.

Acrobat in CS5: For Creative Suite 5 only, Acrobat 9 has its own serial number.

How to download from your account

If you purchased Creative Suite 5 or 5.5 from Adobe or registered it, you can download it from your account. If you don’t see your app, register it first.

How to install from your installation discs

The components of Adobe Creative Suite 5 are on multiple DVDs:

• Adobe Creative Suite 5 Application DVD set (multiple discs)
• Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Application DVD (single disc)

( O nly in CS5 is Acrobat 9 installed with a separate serial number and installation media. In CS5.5, the Acrobat installation process is incorporated into the installer.)

Note: Discs labeled «Content» contain optional, nonessential files that are not required to install the product. For example, a Content disc can contain ReadMe files, tutorials, or example files. You can install this content manually by copying it to your hard drive when you want to access the material. Most content can be copied to a location of your choosing. For instructions on installing fonts, see one of the following documents:

Install the suite edition

Before you begin, close all applications, including your web browser. Make sure that you have administrative privileges or can validate as an administrator.

Note: You do not need to uninstall any previous version of Creative Suite before installing CS5 or CS5.5.

Developer files

I know that many people don’t want to move to Linux because they cannot use Photoshop. I’m sorry lads, that excuse won’t be valid anymore. Just follow these few steps and you will have Photoshop CS5 running in your Linux system.

Installing Wine

Go to the Ubuntu software center, search and download Wine Windows Program Loader (Version: wine1.4 1.4-0ubuntu4.1).

Download Photoshop CS5

Obviously you will need to download Photoshop CS5. I’ve heard some legends about a portable version built for Linux 😉

Install Photoshop CS5

Let’s imagine for a moment that there is portable version of Photoshop and you actually have it. Right click hover the file InstallerPhotoshopCS5.sh, go to properties -> permissions, and activate the option “Allow execute file as a program“.
Click the file again and run the installer (You can skip these steps running the installer directly from the Terminal).

Setup Photoshop CS5

Photoshop CS5 has been installed in “/home/.wine/wineprefixes/PhotoshopCS5” (If you cannot see the “.wine” folder is because it’s hidden. Try using Crtl+h when you are in the “/home” folder).
After the installation a few useless icons will be created in the Desktop. Feel free to remove all of them.
Now go to the path “/home/.wine/wineprefixes/PhotoshopCS5/drive_c/users” copy all the content from the folder “evilgold“. Then go back one level into the users folder and paste all the content in your user folder (If your user folder doesn’t exist just create it with the name of your Linux user).

Ready to go

Now go to the path
“/home/.wine/wineprefixes/PhotoshopCS5/drive_c/bin/” and copy the file “PhotoshopCS5Launcher.sh” in your desktop. Rename the file as “Photoshop CS5“, make it executable as we did before and enjoy!

Could not initialize Photoshop failed to initialize CoolType…

I got that error the first time, I’ve copied the evilgold content into my user folder and now is working 😉

I’ve got CS5 running in Ubuntu 12.04 using wine and the suggested package. Working great, no problems except I can only see my C:\ drive. I share photos to another partition (NTFS) but am unable to see it via the CS5 app.

Thanks a lot for this walkthrough. You described it much clearer than in the official readme, and got it working for me!

This is the best and right way to have photoshop in your pc / laptop

Install your software

Install a Creative Suite 5 edition from disc

The components of Adobe Creative Suite 5 Master Collection are located on multiple DVDs:

• Adobe Creative Suite 5 Application DVD set (multiple discs)
• Adobe Content DVD (a single disc, contains the 32-bit support package for Windows)
• Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Application DVD (a single disc)

The product box also contains serial numbers for the following:

• Adobe Creative Suite 5 Master Collection
• 32-bit support for Production Premium CS5 and Master Collection CS5 (Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4) (Windows only)
• Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro
• Color Finesse CS5
• Color Finesse CS4

Locate all installation media and serial numbers before you begin the installation process.

Install Creative Suite 5 Master Collection

Before you begin, close all applications, including your web browser. Make sure you have administrative privileges or can validate as an administrator.

If you are installing as an upgrade, the installer will check your system to find the valid upgrade product. If it cannot find it, it will ask you to input the serial number of the product being upgraded. You can also install the software in trial, then input your new and previous serial numbers in the serialization screen shown during launch.

Note: Depending on your Autoplay settings in Windows, the Set-up.exe file may launch automatically.

Note: You may be asked to close conflicting processes in order to complete the installation.

Install Acrobat 9 Pro

If you already have Acrobat 9 Pro installed, either as part of a suite or as a standalone application, you do not need to reinstall it. Existing Acrobat 9 Pro users should download and install the most current updates. To check for updates, open Acrobat 9 Pro and choose Help > Check For Updates.

If you have Acrobat 8 or earlier installed on your computer, you must uninstall it before you install Acrobat 9 Pro.

Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and Adobe After Effects CS5 32-bit vs. 64-bit support

Windows versions of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and Adobe After Effects CS5 require a 64-bit edition of Windows Vista or Windows 7. This applies to both the standalone versions of the applications as well as the components of Master Collection CS5.

You cannot install or run Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 or After Effects CS5 on any of following operating systems:

• 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows XP Home or Professional
• 32-bit editions of Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise
• 32-bit editions of Windows 7 Starter, Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate

32-bit vs. 64-bit support in Creative Suite 5

If you are using a 32-bit operating system, Adobe recommends that you upgrade to either:

• 64-bit edition of Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise
• 64-bit edition of Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate

To ease the transition to a 64-bit operating system, Master Collection CS5 includes a support package that contains 32-bit versions of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4.

Until you upgrade to a compatible 64-bit operating system, you can install and use the 32-bit support package included with your purchase. After you upgrade to a qualified 64-bit operating system, you can install and use Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 and After Effects CS5.

Important: If you are upgrading from Production Premium CS4 or Master Collection CS4 you can continue to use your existing installations of After Effects CS4 and Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, including OnLocation and Encore. You do not need to install the 32-bit support package.

If you are upgrading from a standalone version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 or After Effects CS4, you must uninstall it before you can install the 32-bit support package . This is because standalone versions of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4 do not include Dynamic Link. To benefit from the workflow enhancements of Dynamic Link you must install the 32-bit Support package included with your purchase.
