Aerial is a macOS screensaver that lets you play videos from Apple’s tvOS screensaver. This includes classic Aerial videos shot over various cities and locations (New York, San Francisco, China. ), Earth videos from the ISS, and the new underwater videos introduced in tvOS 13. Starting with version 2.0, Aerial also includes videos from 3rd parties that kindly shared them, and you can also now add your own!

Aerial is completely free and open source. You can follow its development here on GitHub, and even participate if you want. You don’t have to be a developer, we always need help when it comes to translations in various languages, check here for more information (it’s easy !).

Weather Forecasts thanks to OpenWeather

Important crash fix

Some users in northern locations could experience crashes with previous versions, if using the adapt videos to your location feature, in the case where they didn’t experience an astronomical sunrise/sunset during this time of the year (users from Norway and Finland first reported the issue). Thanks for your patience, this bug is fixed in 2.3.2 and up.

A new weather API

Aerial now uses OpenWeather as a provider for its weather data, replacing the previous API that is no longer available.

I want to thank OpenWeather for their support of Open Source as on top of being able to show your current conditions, Aerial will *also* be able to show various forecasts:

More information is available from their API and based on interest, some new features should arrive in upcoming versions.

You will also notice new color icons. On macOS Big Sur, Aerial now uses Apple’s SF Symbols color icons. They will look sharper and they automatically adapt to the size of the font you pick in weather’s settings.

Better message options

Messages can now be multi line, and for the most complex scenarios, Aerial can periodically display the output of a shell script.

Still new, extra videos

After having introduced 20 extra videos in 2.0, Joshua Michaels & Hal Bergman listened to feedback and went back to work on improving them. With Aerial 2.2, you will get updated versions of those videos, many have been slowed down so they feel a lot more natural amongst the other Aerial videos, and they also have seen some optimization on video compression so they have better quality and take even less disk space ! A huge shoutout to them for their effort on this.

If you enjoy the updated videos, please consider supporting them by checking the video packs they have created especially for Aerial on their website, those too have all been updated with better compression and slower paced videos.

Aerial — Apple TV Aerial Views Screen Saver

Aerial is a Mac screensaver (macOS 10.12 or later) based on the new Apple TV screensaver that displays the Aerial movies Apple shot over New York, San Francisco, Hawaii, China, etc. Starting with version 2.0.0, it also includes videos shared by Joshua Michaels & Hal Bergman!

Aerial is completely open source, so feel free to contribute to its development.

This repository is used solely for development.

Starting with version 2.3.0, Aerial can now display current weather information and forecasts to your location, thanks to OpenWeather.

Aerial features overlay descriptions of the main geographical features displayed in the videos.

Video descriptions are available in many languages (Spanish, French, Polish… check the complete list here) and that is only possible thanks to the collaboration and interested work of many volunteers. To best serve the international community we’ve defined a translation workflow that allows any person, even with no technical background to help translate the descriptions.

Did you know there’s also an Air Display app in the iOS App Store that turns your iPad or iPhone into a Mac monitor?

Note: The host software requires an Intel-based Mac.

Air Display lets you use a spare Mac’s screen as an extra display for your main Mac.

It’s easy to use! Just launch this app on your spare Mac, then connect to it from the free host app on your main Mac, to instantly expand its screen real estate. You can connect wirelessly or with a cable.

IMPORTANT: This is NOT the free Air Display host software that you need on your main computer. You can download that at avatron.com/gethost. This is the client app that turns one Mac into a second monitor for another Mac.

• Drag windows, apps, or control palettes from your main screen to give yourself more room to work
• Use up to 4 devices simultaneously to extend or mirror your computer
• Run either full-screen or in a window
• Either extend your screen to get more room to work or mirror to share your screen with an audience
• Connect via Wi-Fi or with a wired connection (Ethernet, Thunderbolt, or USB-C)

Just install the free Air Display host app (from avatron.com/gethost) on your main Mac, and download this Air Display client app on your second Mac.

• Purchase this app on the Mac you want to use as your second display
• On your main computer, go to avatron.com/gethost and install the free host app
• You can install this app onto multiple Macs, as long as they use the same Apple ID

If you want to use your iPad or other device as your second screen, you do not need to purchase this app. Air Display for iOS is available in the iTunes App Store (and you’ll still need the same free host software on your main computer).

• Both computers must be on the same Wi-Fi network, or connected via Ethernet, Thunderbolt, or USB-C
• Mac client app: macOS 10.8 and above
