Aesmservice sgx is disabled at aesm service startup windows 10

AESM service critical error

I cannot figure out how to fix this. There seem to be multiple things wrong with my laptop at the moment, which can be possibly attributed my near constant state of low battery.

My laptop charger (as per usual) lost its ability to charge correctly 95% of the time, so that is surely responsible for at least the kernel-power error, but I don’t know the cause of this one.

I also have multiple non-critical errors but I am figuring those out as I go, and I am unable to view my performance monitor (unable to add counters?).

Here’s the log description below:

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I’m here to help you with your problem.

Press Windows key + X
Click Device Manager
Expand Batteries
Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System.
Choose Update Driver Software.
Make sure you are connected to the Internet, the check for updates.

a. turn off the computer and remove the battery and AC adapter.

b. press and hold the power button for 30 secs and reconnect the AC adapter

c. turn ON the computer and continuously tap F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you’re in, press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save and exit.

d. boot into Windows (while still having just the AC adapter plugged-in) then reinsert the battery.

Check if its working.

Other things you can try.

1. Run Windows 10 Battery Diagnostics

If your battery isn’t fully charging, the first thing you can try is the Battery troubleshooter in Windows 10.

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Troubleshoot
Scroll down then click Power
Click Run the troubleshooter

Complete the wizard then restart your device to see if the problem is resolved.

Most laptop computers include their own factory diagnostics utilities, too. It is recommended you also use those to test your battery. Accessing the diagnostics will vary by manufacturer, so, consult the documentation that came with your computer. Before you run a test, you might need to first fully charge the device to 99 or 100 percent, disconnect the AC adapter, boot into the diagnostic utility then run the test.

2. Check if Your AC Power Supply is Properly Connected

Sometimes the power cable connected to your AC power supply brick might be loose. Check to make sure it is fitted and secured properly.

3. Try a Different Wall Outlet and Check for Low Voltage and Electrical Issues

The other day, my house had some serious electrical issues going on. You would be amazed how much voltage issues can affect the performance of your system. Plugging in my laptop into an outlet within my room dimmed the light, while an outlet in the living room caused it to wink.

Another room it remained constant but charging was horribly slow. This, of course, meant I had low voltage issues and with so many appliances competing for the little bit of faulty energy, it made it even worse. Ultimately, I ended hiring an electrician to sort out the issues. After fixing it up, my laptop started charging normally.

4. Test with Another Charger

I mentioned the AC power adapter earlier. It’s possible your charger might be the culprit. If you have a working spare laying around the home, give it a try to see if it charges. You can also borrow one from your work colleague if you don’t have any. If you don’t have access to another charger, try yours on another laptop to see if it charges the device.

If you are mixing and matching laptop power adapters, make sure you choose the correct power supply (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=s. ). Read the brick and make sure it has the same polarity and voltage as the adapter for your laptop.

5. Remove All External Devices

If you keep external devices such as a smartphone, a USB external drive, mouse, printer and anything else attached to your system while charging, it will take longer for your battery to reach 100%. Make sure you disconnect all of those devices so your system won’t be competing with all the other electronics.

6. Check Your Connectors for Dirt or Damage

If your laptop has a modular battery, remove it then check for any damage or to see if it needs cleaning around the contacts and inside the battery compartment. Also, check if there are any dust particles inside the charging port that might be preventing the battery from charging.

7. Check for BIOS and Chipset Driver Updates

Sometimes your system might be overdue for an update for components such as your BIOS and Chipset. Updates can help resolve bugs that might be preventing the battery from charging efficiently.

8. Press and Release Power Button Reset

Sometimes unknown glitches can prevent the battery from charging. An easy way to fix it is to power down your computer, hold down the power button for 15 to 30 seconds, plug in the AC adapter, then start the computer.

9. Disable Apps and Check Battery Usage in Windows 10

Going back to Windows 10 a bit, recently, I noticed my Surface Pro was taking an unusually long time to charge and the fans started to rev up. Little did I notice the culprit was right there on my Taskbar all along. Slack’s Windows client was waiting in an attempt to connect to the Internet. So, checking your apps to determine whats running in the background can help you not only conserve battery life but limit what prevents it from charging faster.

There are a couple ways to do that. Open Start > Settings > Privacy > Background apps. Scroll down then toggle off the apps that might be preventing your device from reaching a full charge.

Still in Settings, open System > Battery > Battery usage by app. This will tell you which apps are using the most battery and you can make a decision what to do, whether to let Windows decide if it should run in the background while not sacrificing battery life.

10. Replace Charger or Battery Module

Ultimately, if you don’t see any improvements after trying all the above, then it’s maybe best that you replace either the charger or battery itself. This will require contacting your laptop manufacturer and placing an order. Batteries and the chargers are not necessarily cheap, especially if its an older system. But, if you have no choice, its something you will just have to do to get your system back in working order.

Welcome back to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

1. Do you see the Intel SGX Service and what state exists for this service (Automatic, Manual, or Disabled) in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services?

2. Do you see this software in Control Panel, Programs and Features?

Your CPU supports SGX but the Windows SGX software would also have to be installed.

I don’t see this software download option at your PC’s Support site ( Link ).

You may have to contact HP Support ( Link ) unless a different forum member knows what’s happening.

You could use msconfig, Services tab to deselect this service (if it exists) at system startup. This is not a fix but a possible workaround.

You could try disabling SGX in the BIOS, again a workaround.

It is possible the previous BIOS did not have an SGX option. Maybe HP will release SGX Windows software or a new version of IMEI which includes this function.

WOW, did not consider that this software drivers was not part of a Windows 10 install or driver update system..

But using your suggestion I checked Services and I don’t find any SGX labeled services.

But doing a search of Windows directory I did find various SGX labeled files so I’m not sure if it’s installed or not.

Thanks for your reply! Doing web searches have not given much about it.

Hopefully someone from HP can reply.

You’re very welcome.

Did you check the current status of this service in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services? Sorry, you did this.

I t may be set to delayed start and be running within a few minutes after starting Windows. My system has this service on a delayed start. It is set to software controlled in the BIOS.

This service does not exist in Administrative Tools-Services on your PC. I would think this is because the Windows SGX software is not installed.

It appears you need the Windows SGX software to get rid of the error message at startup. Try unchecking this service in msconfig. Try disabling the BIOS SGX setting.

My windows version is 2004 (OS Build 19041.1)

Did some more checking and Intel’s SGX software has been installed since 02/2019 and if memory serves me the last BIOS version supported SGX services and I had no errors until after this BIOS update to V.34 on 01/06/2020.

As far as I can tell Windows uses the Intel drivers for this since it’s their design.

I’v ran a check for newer SGX drivers with Intel and it seems I’m on the latest.

One more thing it does show in Services as «Intel® SGX AESM» and it also says Delayed Start.

My Event log has never had this critical error before this BIOS update.

Called HP support and since my warranty was expired, have had it since 06/2017 they wanted $99 just to talk.

I have been a long time HP user and I think this will be my last one.

But anyway changing BIOS setting to disable brings up a lot of warnings but does alleviate the error for 1 boot cycle and then returns, seems like it’s fixed at enabled.

It’s a shame when HP can’t or won’t take responsibility for their problems with their BIOS updates.

At this point I’m thinking I will install the last BIOS v.33 since it did not have this issue.

Did you try unchecking SGX in msconfig? I see you changed the BIOS setting but this did not work. Maybe if both settings are disabled the startup error message will go away.

You could try a BIOS rollback. Some HP BIOS updates are not reversible.

The previous versions for your PC can be downloaded at this ( Link ). Open Revision History, then scroll down to the bottom of the page for download options.

You are right Can’t rollback to V.33 after installing V.34.

You know HP really needs to fully check these things out before releasing; When I was talking to their supposed support they claimed it was a software issue and if this is true why didn’t they also issue a software update as well.

What bothers me is if I turn it off in BIOS just to end the event errors, it appears it leaves my system security is at risk.

Not to mention their sad support options for issues they create with problem bios updates.

For over 20 year I have used and own HP systems both through work and personally and have never seen an issue were they respond like this. They had always made things right when there was a issue with their updates.

BIOS maybe OK but if it requires a software update were is it.
