«An error occurred while extracting files.»

For the longest time, i’ve been extracting my filed by dragging them into where i wanted them to be extracted. As of the last hour or so, i’ve trying to do the same thing with a few themes i’ve downloaded. to no avail. The error message:

keeps popping up.

At first, i thought it was because the downloaded file had been corrupted, but i tried it with a few other files already on my computer and i received the same message.

I can unpack the rar. or tar.gz file easily, by dragging the folder inside to whereever I want. But, once i attempt to extract whatever is in THAT folder, it won’t let me do it.

Does anyone know what is going on?

Re: «An error occurred while extracting files.»

Perhaps permissions problems. Are you the owner of the folder you are extracting to?

Re: «An error occurred while extracting files.»

As far as i know, yes. I mean, i’m only trying to extract to a folder on my Desktop.

But, how could i check if all of my permissions are in order?

Re: «An error occurred while extracting files.»

I just checked my permissions under properties and I do indeed have full permissions.

Re: «An error occurred while extracting files.»

It also won’t let me even open the file or folder without giving me the same error message. Does anybody have any idea.

Re: «An error occurred while extracting files.»

This happened when I was trying to open a file within a folder in a zip archive.

For example I tried to open a file «document» in the folder «research papers» in the archive «College.zip».

However, since I hadn’t extracted the zip yet I couldn’t access it.

The problem was solved by simply extracting the whole «college.zip» folder and accessing the files within that way.

I hope this solves your problem!

Short version: Extract the biggest folder in the archive first and access the files within from the extracted folder.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS/Lampp/Xampp: An error occurred while extracting files

New to Linux/Ubuntu, XAMPP and Drupal.

I’m trying to install XAMPP/LAMPP/Drupal to a USB thumbdrive and I keep getting: «An error occurred while extracting files».

I have NO idea on how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

fyi: I just removed Microsoft XP and installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS about 7 days ago.

Probably your file got corrupted during download. You can check the file integrity by verifying the downloaded file’s SHA1 (or MD5) hash.

Go to the XAMPP download page, click the information icon at the right of «xampp-linux-1.8.1.tar.gz» (or any other file you downloaded) and copy the SHA1 (or MD5) hash. Download the file and run in a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T):

Check if the hash matches the one copied from the download page.

Hello Eric: I had to download XAMPP again because I couldn’t find it in «Download». I had the same error as before. I had to research on how to do the MD5 check (learned here: http://youtu.be/0ExP6RrkzKg). For some reason the file couldn’t be found in «Download» but I found it in «TMP». I moved the XAMPP file to «Desktop» and did the MD5 check (e7092eafff81ad363de45d192774b4d6).

I couldn’t understand how to follow your 1st instructions by going to the «download page» and clicking to the right of the «information icon». ;(

1 thing I did notice though was that the file in the «Download» has no lock on it while on the «Desktop» it does.

Thanks again for your help.

Archive Manager: error while extracting files

Archive Manager: error while extracting files

Post by sclaes » Wed Jun 01, 2016 1:12 pm

I used Archive Manager (version 3.6.3) to extract files from a zip file and I got the error «An error occurred while extracting files». I guess Archive Manager could not extract one (or more) of the files but why couldn’t it be more specific? Which file(s)? Is there any way to find out what was the problem? BTW: I also tried «Test Integrity» but it isn’t more specific either.

Does Archive Manager log errors? If so, where?

Linux Mint 17 (64 bit)
Cinnamon
Archive Managetr 3.6.3

This returns many errors but how do I know which file(s) cannot be extracted? (if any)

Archive: ./Text.zip
testing: addresses bad extra-field entry:
EF block length (24 bytes) exceeds remaining EF data (20 bytes)
testing: afstanden/boshoek bad extra-field entry:
EF block length (24 bytes) exceeds remaining EF data (20 bytes)
.

Why would a right click menu of an archive file do more than either double clicking on it or starting Archive Manager (from command line or from the GUI) and opening the archive? BTW: I never open archives by right clicking on them. (I don’t want to extract them in the same directory)

I only want to know what file(s) could not be extracted. (if any)

I don’t know. I made the described observation, that’s it. Take it as a workaround.

As this problem does not appear with every archive I also do not know, if file roller or the archive is to blame for the problem. The described difference in the behavior with the 2 methods for usage makes it likely, that it is a file roller bug. As you can see, the list of bugs (but not only related to this problem) is long.

I found out all files are extracted although testing the archive returns many errors: e.g.
$ unzip -t Text.zip afstanden/boshoek
Archive: Text.zip
testing: afstanden/boshoek bad extra-field entry:
EF block length (24 bytes) exceeds remaining EF data (20 bytes)
At least one error was detected in Text.zip.

The archive came from another computer platform and I guess the author of the program that created the archive had a different interpretation of how an zip archive should be constructed. Or maybe unzip is too strict and it returns errors when it shouldn’t.

Thanks for the advice anyway

I don’t think Archive Manager/ file roller will be fixed any time soon to address this problem.

Error «A problem occurred while extracting the archive» | Extracting CS4, point products | Windows

When you extract Adobe Creative Suite 4 or a CS4 point products using the downloaded executable, you receive the following error message:

«A problem occurred while extracting the archive. Please try downloading the Adobe CS4 Design Premium [or your specific product] again.»

Solutions

Solution 1: Temporarily disable any Antivirus software.

Antivirus programs can prevent other applications from accessing files while they are being scanned for viruses. Attempting to run the executable file while this process occurs can generate this error message. Temporarily disabling antivirus software can allow the executable file to extract the contents of the 7z file.

Solution 2: Use a cable Internet connection and redownload the ESD files for Adobe Creative Suite 4 or CS4 point product.

Note: Also try using a different browser.

A wireless Internet connection can cause the 7z file to not download fully or to become corrupted during the download process.

Solution 3: Download Adobe Creative Suite 4 or CS4 product to another machine.

A program on the current computer can prevent Adobe Creative Suite 4 or a CS4 point product from downloading correctly. Downloading the product to another computer and then transferring it to the original computer can prevent this issue.

Solution 4: Contact Adobe Customer Service to obtain physical media.

If you can’t complete the download after multiple attempts using a cable connection to the Internet, request physical media by calling 1-800-642-3623.

For residents outside North America, visit the Adobe Support website for Customer Service contact information.

Additional information

The Adobe Creative Suite 4 or CS4 point product downloadable installer consists of two components. First, there is an executable file (.exe) that extracts the contents of the installation. Then, there is a 7z file, which is an archive file that contains the product installation files. The downloadable installer is also called an electronic software download (ESD.) The error message occurs when the 7z file has not downloaded completely, the file is in use, or the contents are corrupted.

There are two main reasons why an extraction is unsuccessful:

Tried that even. same error! 🙄

Couldn’t wait more so in the end did a Restore RootFS and finally got my jailbreak back!
But still i would be curious to know what caused the error to pop up all of sudden in the first place.

bittles commented Aug 19, 2020

I just started having this error now after upgrading unc0ver from 5.0.1 to 5.3.1. Restoring rootFS doesn’t resolve this for me.

You have an OTA update that needs to be deleted. iphone storage section.

bittles commented Aug 19, 2020

Nothing actually showing up in there software update-wise. Maybe a partial not recognized by the system? Don’t know if there’s an easy way to clear that out while not jailbroken.

bittles commented Aug 19, 2020

I just futurerestore’d to from 13.5 to 13.4.1 (didn’t have a nonce saved with my 13.5 blob) and re-jailbroke and it worked. Couldn’t ever figure out why it wasn’t completing exactly.

The error maybe is because iCleaner deleted the «.log» files (Deleted the «alternatives.log» files and provocated the error of unc0ver stuck on the 28 step)

Any option in iCleaner that can be turned off or something so the same thing doesn’t happen again?
