I thought this was cool, especially since they have held up so well after all these years. It is neat to know that my funny little ranch style home was built with such quality windows!

Более того – сюжет фильма о неудачливых грабителях навеян реальным юношеским опытом Уэса и Оуэна. Оказывается, в студенческие годы парни вместе снимали квартиру, в которой плохо закрывалось окно. Так как хозяин помещения отказывался вызывать мастера, друзья решили инсценировать взлом: на каникулах они пробрались в собственную квартиру и «украли» несколько мелочей. Арендатор сразу раскусил их план и отказался проводить ремонт, зато история позже послужила вдохновением для фильма «Бутылочная ракета».

Любовь Андерсона к ярким, сочным цветам проявилась чуть позже, во время подготовки к съемкам «Академии Рашмор». Уэс снимал уже другую квартиру – в Нью-Йорке, где ему посчастливилось жить по соседству со знаменитым приватным художественным музеем Фрика. Отдавая дань Уэллсу, Андерсон даже поселил своих героев в дом, невероятно похожий на имение Эмберсонов.

Свою коронную фишку – идеально симметричные кадры, Уэс тоже почерпнул у одного из классиков, Стэнли Кубрика. Любопытно, что обычно режиссерам не советуют злоупотреблять, так как симметрия на экране вызывает ощущение постановочности и театральности. Но как можно заставить отказаться от театральности человека, у которого почти в каждом фильме есть сцена постановки пьесы? Более того – часто эти спектакли становятся не просто стилистическим ходом, а оказываются катализатором конфликтов между героями. Марго Тененбаум в 11 лет ставит свою первую пьесу, из-за которой ссорится с отцом, а Макс из «Академии Рашмор» выражает свои внутренние переживания с помощью школьного спектакля о Вьетнаме.

За саундтреки ко всем фильмам режиссера отвечает музыкальный супервайзер Рэндалл Постер, которого с Уэсом объединяет любовь к полузабытым рок-хитам 60-х. Сам Постер не имеет музыкального образования, но однажды написал сценарий к фильму о студенческом радио. Видимо, лента понравилась Андерсону, так как он попросил Рэндалла помочь с музыкальным оформлением «Бутылочной ракеты».

Выискивая подходящие песни к лентам Уэса, Постер обычно не обращает внимание на очевидные популярные мелодии, а проводит целые дни над ящиками с пыльными виниловыми пластинками. На этом поиски музыки не заканчиваются. Работая над «Поездом на Дарджилинг», Рэндалл отправился в Индию, где умолял правообладателей фильмов легендарного болливудского режиссера Рая Сатьяджи позволить ему переписать часть старых саундтреков. Во время съемок «Бесподобного мистера Фокса» он обратился к архивисту Beach Boys и нашел у него запись неизданного кавера группы на песню Ol’ Man River. Звонок посеред ночи от Уэса, требующего скорее собрать для фильма оркестр балалаечников – тоже вполне нормальная часть работы.

В фильмах Уэса Андерсона часто можно услышать довольно экзотическую музыку, однако главная любовь режиссера – «Британское вторжение», период середины 1960-х, когда английские группы начали доминировать в международных чартах. Несложно найти параллели между молодыми The Kinks и The Who и персонажами Уэса – и те, и те с виду обманчиво благопристойные и серьезные, но скрывают под консервативной одеждой бунтарский дух и тягу к приключениям.

Любимец мира моды

Зная, как Уэс до мелочей продумывает каждую визуальную мелочь в кадре, может показаться, что даже легендарные наряды андерсоновских персонажей – его рук дело. Но режиссер приобщился лишь к одному костюму – мистера Фокса, который в точности срисован с любимого костюма самого Уэса.

Во всем остальном Андерсон полагается на художников по костюмам Карен Патч и Милену Канонеро. Патч работала над одеждой для ранних лент Андерсона и чаще всего договаривалась с именитыми брендами, которые изготовляли костюмы для героев. К слову, одним из главных требований режиссера было то, чтобы все предметы гардероба персонажей были сделаны на заказ, а не куплены в магазине. Поэтому, к сожалению, второго платья Lacoste, как у Марго Тененбаум, не отыскать и за все деньги мира.

Итальянский бренд Prada не только изготовлял наряды для множества фильмов Уэса, но и заказал режиссеру снять короткометражку. Фильм «Кастелло Кавальканти» как раз отлично демонстрирует любовь Андерсона к европейскому кино: в ленте множество отсылок к творчеству Федерико Феллини, а названа она в честь бельгийского режиссера Альберто Кавальканти, построившего блестящего карьеру во Франции.
