Еще одна весьма интересная тема для «десятки», которая была позаимствована из Linux и адаптирована знаменитым дизайнером под псевдонимом neiio. Тема Arc минималистична и сочетает в себе небольшое количество цветов – преимущественно это градации серых и белых оттенков. Акцент на элементах оформления делается с помощью голубого цвета – как правило это выделения строк и иконки. Кнопки управления окнами сделаны в виде маленьких значков, притом кнопка “Закрыть” обведена в красный кружочек.

Особенностью данной сборки Arc является большое количество вариаций стилей, в том числе здесь присутствует бонусная версия оформления – arc-void. Темы различаются по цвету оформления окон и их заголовков:

– Arc – стандартная тема, где панель навигации окрашена в серый цвет, а само окно с заголовком белые;
– Arc – darker – цвет заголовка окна становится темно-серым, как на панели навигации;
– Arc – dark – окно полностью формляется серыми оттенками.
Бонусная тема arc-void является вариацией Arc – darker, где кнопки управления окнами заменены на симпатичные цветные сферы.
В комплекте с темой предлагается набор оригинальных иконок и обои “Linux Mint”.

To build the theme the follwing packages are required

• autoconf
• automake
• pkg-config or pkgconfig for Fedora
• libgtk-3-dev for Debian based distros or gtk3-devel for RPM based distros
• git to clone the source directory

Note: For distributions which don’t ship separate development packages, just the GTK 3 package is needed instead of the -dev packages.

For the theme to function properly, install the following

• GNOME Shell 3.14 – 3.24, GTK 3.14 – 3.22
• The gnome-themes-standard package
• The murrine engine. This has different names depending on the distro.

After the installation is complete the theme can be activated with gnome-tweak-tool or a similar program by selecting Arc , Arc-Darker or Arc-Dark as Window/GTK+ theme and Arc or Arc-Dark as GNOME Shell/Cinnamon theme.

If the –disable-transparency option was used, the theme will be installed as Arc-solid , Arc-Darker-solid and Arc-Dark-solid .

To install the Chrome/Chromium theme go to the extra/Chrome folder and drag and drop the arc-theme.crx or arc-dark-theme.crx file into the Chrome/Chromium window. The source of the Chrome themes is located in the source “Chrome/arc-theme” folder.

To install the Plank theme, copy the extra/Arc-Plank folder to

/.local/share/plank/themes or to /usr/share/plank/themes for system-wide use. Now open the Plank preferences window by executing plank –preferences from a terminal and select Arc-Plank as the theme.

Arc-Dark for Ubuntu Software Center

If you use Ubuntu with a newer GTK/GNOME version than the one included by default (i.e Ubuntu 14.04 with GTK 3.14 or Ubuntu 15.04 with GTK 3.16, etc.) the prebuilt packages won’t work properly and the theme has to be installed manually as described above. This is also true for other distros with a different GTK/GNOME version than the one included by default

Follow the below-mentioned steps carefully:

Step 1 – Change the name of the inbuilt C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\aero\aerolite.msstyles to aerolite.msstyles.backup .

Step 2 – When popup prompts and require ownership, you need to positively interact. Hence, click YES on the pop up.

Step 3 – You need to create a new folder in the following path – C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\aero\ called aerolite.msstyles

Step 4 – Place the previously downloaded theme folder in the folder created above. Ensure that your theme file resides in the newly originated C:\Windows\Resources\Themes\aero\aerolite.msstyles\ .

Step 5 – You can now select the downloaded theme from the personalization menu.

Patching Windows 10 with Anniversary Update

Method to patch a Windows 10 with Anniversary update is pretty much easier unlike Windows 10 with November update. It is as easy as placing the updated Anniversary theme in your theme folder and you are good to go.

Copy the folder where you have placed the theme files and the folder containing .msstyles file) and paste into “ %windir%ResourcesTheme ” folder.

Note: %windir% refers to the Windows directory present in the system drive where Windows was installed. Most commonly it must be the C drive.

Yes, Someone Has Ported The Arc GTK Theme to Windows

Last month we featured an Ubuntu theme for Windows 10 called Maverick — and a lot of you were pretty bemused by it.

That theme aimed to bring the familiar look of Ubuntu and its Ambiance theme to the Windows 10 desktop. And, for the most part, does a decent job of aping the appearance.

Ambiance isn’t everyone’s favourite GTK theme. Heck it may not be the theme that those of you who dual-boot with Windows 10 use. If you’re into your theming then there’s a good chance that know of (or even have) the (awesome) Arc GTK Theme.

I was curious to see if anyone had ported this popular theme to Windows.

And it turns out, someone has!

Yep, that’s a screenshot of Arc running on Windows 10. All three variants of the Arc GTK theme have been ported over, including Arc Dark and Arc Darker.

It’s pretty crazy to see but also pretty damn awesome. It’s great that the design of Linux desktops is of such high quality that people want a slice of it on their Windows PCs too!

A quick heads up: it’s much, much harder to install a theme on Windows than it is on Linux. In fact it’s a deathly involved process and requires the install of (theme friendly) third-party tools and apps that some may not be comfortable using.
