Archer T3U не подключается в Ubuntu 20.04.1

The above installation source works perfect on the 4.15.0-72 kernel, however on the 5.3.0-24 kernel the (bad exit status: 2)Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 5.3.0-24-generic (x86_64) occurs. I have attached the /var/lib/dkms/8822bu/1.1/build/make.log for more information.

Any ideas how to solve this issue?

if you have chosen my suggestion with the driver from JeremyB’s website, I think it’s only designed up to the 4.15 kernels. But that was your question for the 4.15.0-72 kernel. If you now have updated to the 5.3 kernel, than as far as I can see, you should install the driver from your opening post. But before, you should remove the installed driver again. So now you have to decide whether you want to go back to the 4.15 kernels or stay with the 5.3 kernel.

I’ve seen a couple of posts about this but nothing that I can use or make sense of, and they may not apply to my specific situation, so let me just explain what it is:

First of all, I’m a programmer, so you don’t have to dumb anything down for me (I’ll probably look up any commands that you give just to make sure I know exactly what it’s all doing), BUT I’m very new to Linux (I installed it a couple of weeks ago) and it really isn’t at all like anything I’m used to using, so bear with me and don’t assume that I know anything about it.

Anyway, I’m using Mint 20 with Cinnamon and I’m pretty sure it’s 64-bit if I remember correctly. It’s on a secondary partition, the first partition being Windows 10 (BOO!), but I need that for compatibility with various stuff (mostly games).

I can’t connect to the internet in Linux (though it works fine in Windows 10) and in the place where it lists the connections on the bottom right of the screen, it doesn’t have any available except a phone line connection, and it says the cable is unplugged (which is true, because I don’t have one). As I mentioned in the topic title, I’m using a Realtek TP-Link 802.11ac Archer T3U with an ID of 2357:012d (taken from the lsusb -v).

So I have NO way of connecting to the internet other than through the WiFi adapter that I have plugged into a USB port. So if there are any drivers that I need to download, or anything like that, then I’ll need to do so in Windows, then reboot in Linux and then pull them to the other partition and use them. That’s all well and good, as long as I can know:

— Where to get whatever file(s) I need, unless they’re included in Mint (and if so then where to find them or how to access them)

— How to actually install them so that they work. Someone had said something to me about the possibility of having to download something open-source and then building/compiling it into a driver. I hope that’s not necessary (unless it’s an easy thing to do), but I don’t even know what language it would be in or what compiler I’d use, and so on.

I also read that the secure boot BIOS technology (or whatever it is) may possibly interfere with it, but on the other hand, I also read that someone was only able to get a driver like this to work after enabling secure boot, and also, someone else said in a different context that disabling secure boot can mess up Windows, which I do NOT want to do!

I haven’t actually tried anything yet, other than looking through the network settings to see if there was anything obviously set wrong, and then looking up all the stuff that I just described, because I’m sort of afraid to start changing things if it turns out that it whatever I try doesn’t work and then it becomes harder to get back to a point where it would be easy to fix the problem and get the internet working (does that make sense?).

Also, I’ve seen some stuff on Github, but I’m not sure what to do with it or whether any of it is even necessary. Frankly, I’ve never really understood Github, because it seems to contain a bunch of little files, without really explaining the exact purpose and correct usage of each one, so I’m not sure what to do with it or whether it’s even relevant.

In any case, I’m basically totally lost, but I REALLY NEED to get my internet working on Mint, so if someone could tell me a specific step-by-step process of how to get this driver working (and even where to get the driver in the first place), I’d very much appreciate it! Thanks a lot!
