Asus k50id mac os

macOS Sierra on old Asus K50IN

ninoger

I’m trying to install the Sierra on my venerable Asus notebook (but still more than suitable for my needs). To date it is working in dual boot with Enoch in 2839 with Win10 and Yosemite on the same SSD.
For my tests I am using an external USB disk and Clover 3899 Legacy. The system has been successfully installed and have made usb disk «autonomous» by installing Clover Legacy also on the disc. So far so good. The current situation is this:

— Audio with Voodoo 2.8.5 that use of Yosemite (the latest 2.8.9 does not make a good sound, now also occurred on Yosemite)

— Wifi with Wifiinjector (AR5B195)

— Nvidia graphics default and alternate driver

— Shutdown after disabling Fix_shutdown with Clover Configurator

What is not working:

— Battery Management. Yosemite use of a roll back of AppleACPIPlatform with ACPIBatterymanager but does not work with Sierra (KP immediately to boot)

— Bluetooth (AR5B195 comprising AR3011) that works perfectly for Yosemite. I tried the same that I use kext of Yosemite (1.2.0) and the latest available (1.2.1) that should have worked on El Capitan. Sierra nothing to do

The thing that surprised me is that the system stands without dsdt and without Nullcpupowermanagement (on the Yosemite I dsdt that Sierra does not go — straight to KP boot — I suppose because now I use another completely different bootloader (maybe the causes they are also other).

I ask you, please, if there is no remedy these defects and, if so, how to proceed.

Thank you in advance for the time you want to devote.

[Guide] Asus K50IN-SX152 — Installing Mac OS X 10.6.8

man_of_the_oak

I decided to create this tutorial mostly because of the fact that there isn’t really any good one + the only detailed I know is the one from applelife.ru which is obsolete and actually not very good in my humble opinion. I hope that my work will be appreciated and will come to use to some of you. I have to mention that even though this tutorial is based on my work with Asus K50IN, it may be helpful also for people who own Asus K70IO or others with MCP79 chipset.

1. Model: Asus K50IN-SX152
2. Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6600 (SSE 2, SSE 3)
3. Southbridge: MCP79
4. Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce G102M
5. Audio: ALC662
6. LAN: RTL8111/8168B
7. WLAN: Atheros AR9285
8. HDD and Optical disc recorder — SATA
9. Keyboard and touchpad — PS/2
10. Webcam: Chicony CNF7129
11. Card reader: Alcor AU6433

Let’s sum up the final effect.

Works:
— SpeedStep (P-States and C-States)
— Graphics card (QE/CI)
— Audio (internal microphone, external microphone set as line in, speakers, headphones)
— LAN
— WLAN
— Touchpad (tap-to-click, vertical two-finger scrolling etc. — if you are going to dual boot with Windows using Chameleon — avoid restarting Microsoft’s OS to boot Mac OS X — touchpad goes crazy then — the only way to fix this issue is to use Acronis OS Selector for example )
— Battery status
— Shutdown/Restart
— Sleep
— Webcam
— Card reader (recognised as internal Apple card reader)

Doesn’t work:
— Restart after waking up from sleep
— Deep sleep (the system is properly restored to the state from before hibernation but system alert is being played all the time. )

Before starting with all the steps I describe in this tutorial, I recommend updating your BIOS to the newest version. At the moment is it: 223. Download my archive with all needed files (you can find it near the end of this tutorial — and put in on a USB stick, for example — to have easy access to the files) also.

I am not going to write about how to install the system itself, simply download a boot CD of your choice and install Mac OS X ( remember to put GraphicsEnabler=No flag during install and first boot from hdd and do first part of post-configuration tasks on Mac OS X 10.6 or 10.6.3, not higher! )

When Mac OS X is installed (version 10.6 or 10.6.3) and booted from the first time from your HDD, we can move to post-configuration.

Download Combo Update 10.6.8 and install it (do not restart yet!) . Now we can take care of bootloader — it will allow your system to boot from HDD, without using the boot CD, you can find it in the attached archive — its file name is Chameleon-2.0-RC5-r828.pkg. If the installer doesn’t run properly at first — try again until it does.

Читайте также:  Mac os подключить сетевой диск smb

Install it on your system partition (do not log out yet!). The next step is to create your Extra along with KextStore. Run terminal (Applications->Tools->Terminal) and type the following comands, pressing Enter after each line:

So. we have the folders, let’s fill them with data

Go to your system partition, open recently created Extra and place there smbios.plist and com.apple.boot.plist from my archive. If you are curious what you can find inside : + if you are going to install the system on laptop with other CPU — make sure to edit smbios.plist!

The next step is to install Kext Wizard (I wouldn’t surprise you if I say that you can find it inside my archive with needed files? Oh well. from now on — simply pretend that I say it every time when telling you to use something without explaining where to download it). Using this little app, install the following kexts to Extra:

AppleACPIBatteryManager, AppleACPIPS2Nub, ApplePS2Controller, EvOreboot, FakeSMC, NullCPUPowerManagement

This set, along with Chameleon, will allow you to boot the system without boot CD.
Reboot Mac OS X (this time you have to press power button after seeing MACH reboot — EvOreboot isn’t working yet) — this time without boot CD inside your optical drive. I recommend using -v -f flags, you simply type them when you get into Chameleon boot menu and press «Enter».

When the system is up and running — you can move to the next step.

3. Preparing DSDT for modification

Extract your DSDT using Ubuntu Live CD 9.04 (you can find many tutorials on the Internet, simply search for it). You can download the ISO here:

Ok, supposing that you’ve already got your DSDT file (you can find it inside of ACPI-Tables.zip, you will recognise it after the beginning of its name ), I am going to help you with the whole process of modifying it.

Firsly, download the newest version of TextWrangler and iASLMe.

Search for the newest version of iASLMe on the last pages of the topic (attachments on the first page aren’t updated). During writing this tutorial, I was using iASLMe_UB_23_06_2011.

Install both applications, drag our DSDT on iASLMe icon. We have to do this to make the code inside of it «readable» for a regular text editor. Open output .dsl file using TextWrangler.

The code will be easier to interpret if you makes some changes in preferences.
Choose «Edit->Text options. « and set it just like on the screenshot below:

To check correctness of our DSDT we have to drag our .dsl file on iASLMe. If compilation results in Compilation complete. 0 Errors, 0 Warnings, 0 Remarks.. — you can move to the next step. Otherwise, we should fix it. I am not able to predict how will your DSDT look like, so I am going to present you the fixes I had to use in my case.

My clean DSDT, after decompilation and re-compilation returned:

Compilation complete. 2 Errors, 42 Warnings, 1 Remarks.

It’s not really a big problem to fix and — as to be honest — we don’t have to take care of warnings but I am a pedant-type so. I recommend copying whole log of compilation to have an easy way to look into it. Let’s paste it into a new text document of TextWrangler and search for «error». In my case, the first one was:

5071 is the line where the error occurs so, using «Search->Go to line» we go to this line.

The compiler returns information about invalid object type: it’s ZERO while Buffer is required. Let’s change Zero to Buffer (Zero) <> then.

This is how this part will look after modification:

One error left. Compile your DSDT by dragging your .dsl file on iASLMe icon and copy the log, then search for «error» again. In my case, the last error was:

Again, we go to the line where the error occurs:

This time it’s even easier to fix — we clearly can see that the compiler tells us to change «pnp0c14» to «PNP0C14» — do it then

Our DSDT is free of errors now. If you don’t care about warnings and remark — you can move to the next step, otherwise — please read on.

What is left is to get rid of 42 warnings and one remark. Let’s have a look at the warnings:

Firstly, we have to take care of all Not all control paths return a value warnings. I will show you an example which is clear enough to give you an idea on how to work with the rest.

In general — at the end of the part where warning occurs, we have to add «Return (Zero)»:

When we are done with all warnings of this type, we go straight to «Reserved method should not return a value». Again — I am going to show you an example:

Читайте также:  Как удалить gcc windows

One of my warnings is connected with this line. It’s obvious that we simply have to remove it. It’s the easiest way to return nothing

To finish with all warnings we also have to take care of these:

The fix is very easy (again!). Simply change all Acquire (MUTE, 0x03E8) to Acquire (MUTE, 0xFFFF).

If you are still reading this, you must be a pedant-type, just like me. let’s move to remark then

Find all «_T_0» within whole DSDT and replace them to «T_0». Congrats! Your DSDT should compile with this result:

Compilation complete. 0 Errors, 0 Warnings, 0 Remarks

GUIDE for the ASUS K Series / OS X 10.6.x / 10.7.x

The ASUS K50/70 notebook is designed to provide a no-frills computing experience to users while on the move. The K Series of notebooks sport the nVidia MCP79 / MCP75 chipsets containing C2D or CD CPU`s along with nVidia GPU`s which makes them a perfect combo for a macbookpro replacement 😛 After some testing and tweaking, we (the users of this thread) would like to report that the K series of notebooks are quite compatible running vanilla OS X.

WARNING: We DO NOT take ANY responsibility in case of hardware failure or error.

Section A: Install / Post Install method for 10.6.x

[GUIDE] ASUS K550JX — MacOS Catalina 10.15

PickupMan

ASUS K550JX — MacOS Catalina — Full Guide
( ASUS K550JK GUIDE COMING SOON. )

Hello! This is a guide on how to install macOS Catalina 10.15 on your ASUS K550JX.

To be clear, I will provide all the files, folders, SSDT´s and DSDT´s I used on my Laptop, but bear in mind that you may need different files for your PC. ASUS has several K550J models with different configurations and hardware, so be careful and follow the guide patiently. Also, this guide assumes you know how to mount «EFI» partitions and that you have at least «Clover Configurator» on you system.

My Hardware:
— Intel Core I7-4750HQ
— Intel Iris Pro 5200 & Nvidia GTX 950M
— 8GB RAM
— 1TB HDD (Should work the same if you have a SSD)
— USB 3.0 & USB 2.0
— Realtek WiFi card (Replaced with an Atheros 9285. Realtek WiFi cards are not supported by MacOS. There are plenty of solutions out there. I used this Atheros because I had one already from a previous computer of mine. Follow the guide for more information on WiFi cards.)
— 15.6″ FHD (1920×1080)
— Realtek SD Card Reader
— CD/DVD Drive
— HDMI and VGA ports

Issues That Can’t Be Fixed (For now. ) :
— Nvidia GTX 950M (Most Laptops with a Nvidia dGPU use the Optimus technology. This technology is not supported by MacOS at the time.)
— VGA port (Still working on it. )
— Stock Realtek WiFi card does not work. (Follow the guide for more information on WiFi cards.)

Requirements:
— 16GB USB Drive.
— Access to a Mac.
— MacOS Catalina downloaded from the App Store.
— Patience.

Pre-Installation:
For this step you will need a Mac to install Clover Bootloader and the macOS Installer to the USB Drive.

USB Setup

First, find what USB Drive you’re going to use:
      In terminal.app type:
  • Now, you’re ready to install MacOS!

Bios Menu Setup

  • Advanced tab:
    • Sata Mode = AHCI
    • VT-d = Disabled
  • Boot:
    • Fastboot = Disabled
    • Launch CSM = Enabled
    • Change boot priority by putting the USB Drive in the first place
  • Security:
    • Secure Boot = Disabled

Installing MacOS
Note: Even if you have PS2SmartTouchPad.kext installed correctly, keyboard and mouse might not work in the installation process. I recommend having an external mouse and keyboard ready if needed.

  • After changing the Bios settings, if you selected «Save settings and reboot», it should boot into Clover Bootloader.
  • In Clover Bootloader choose the USB Drive «install_osx».
  • After it loads, click on «Disk Utility»:
    • Format the HDD (or SSD) where you’re going to install MacOS. If you wish to make a dual-boot with Windows later on, you can use the partition tool and divide the disk. Guide on dual-boot coming soon.
    • Once the Format is done, quit «Disk Utility».
  • Click on «Install macOS Catalina» and follow the steps.
  • Once the installation process begins, it will restart after a few minutes. Now, in Clover Bootloader, choose the HDD (or SSD) where you’re installing MacOS.
  • After that, wait a few more minutes and go through the introduction of MacOS Catalina.

Congratulations! You installed macOS Catalina on your computer!

Clover Bootloader in HDD (or SSD)
As you may have noticed, Clover Bootloader is loading from a USB Drive. It would be more convenient loading Clover Bootloader from the HDD/SSD where you’ve just installed MacOS.

In order to do that:

  • Mount the USB Drive «EFI» partition.
  • Copy the «EFI» folder to your Desktop.
  • Unmount the «EFI» partition of your USB Drive.
  • Mount the HDD «EFI» partition.
  • Copy the «EFI» folder that you just copied to the Desktop and paste it on the HDD/SSD partition.
  • Done!

The Fixes
Unless you used my «EFI» folder for the installation, in which I assume you have the same Hardware as me, there are still a few issues that need to be fixed:

  • Nvidia card running even though it’s not supported (which wastes a lot of battery)
  • Display brightness
  • Audio and microphone
  • USB ports not configured properly (Which means you only have USB 2.0 working now)
  • Sleep/Wake issues
  • Realtek SD Card Reader
  • HDMI audio

Fortunately, I have fixes for these issues:

Disabling the Nvidia Graphics Card
Note: This will only disable the Nvidia Graphics Card in MacOS. You can still use in Windows if you want a dual-boot.

  • Download «DSDT.aml», «SSDT-5SgPeg.aml» and «SSDT-8-OptTabl.aml» in the «Nvidia DSDT and SSDT.zip» given below.
  • Mount your EFI partition.
  • Copy the files you’ve just downloaded to EFI/Clover/ACPI/patched.
  • Reboot.

Display brightness
Note: Display Brightness will not work if you didn’t disabled the Nvidia Graphics card.

  • Download the latest «AppleBacklightFixup.kext» and «SSDT-PNLF.aml» from here .
  • Mount your EFI partition.
  • Once downloaded, copy «AppleBacklightFixup.kext» to EFI/Clover/Kexts/Others.
  • Copy «SSDT-PNLF.aml» to EFI/Clover/ACPI/Patched.
  • Reboot.

Audio and microphone

  • Download the latest «AppleALC.kext» from here.
  • Download «SSDT-CX20752.aml» in the «SSDT-CX20752.zip» given below.
  • Download the latest «CodecCommander.kext» from here.
  • Mount your EFI partition.
  • Copy «AppleALC.kext» and «CodecCommander.kext» to EFI/Clover/Kexts/Others.
  • Copy «SSDT-CX20752.aml» to EFI/Clover/ACPI/patched
  • Open your «config.plist» file under EFI/Clover with Clover Configurator:
    • In the «ACPI» tab check the box «FixHPET».
    • In the «Devices» tab, click on «properties»:
      • Go to PciRoot(0)/Pci(0x1b,0), and make sure you have «layout-id» with the number «3» in the «Properties Value». (You might have «#layout-id». If that’s the case just delete the «#» from the name.
  • Reboot.

USB Ports
Note: The SSDT I’m giving here most probably will work with you K550JX and similar models. However, if you’re not confident enough and feel like you have a different port scheme than mine, follow this guide: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-creating-a-custom-ssdt-for-usbinjectall-kext.211311/.

  • Download «SSDT-UIAC.aml» in the «SSDT-UIAC.zip» given below.
  • Copy «SSDT-UIAC.aml» to EFI/Clover/ACPI/pathed.
  • Reboot.

Sleep/Wake Issues

  • Simply run the following code in terminal:

This will solve some of the issues. Not all of them.

Realtek SD Card Reader
Note: Bear in mind that (at the time I’m writing this) this Kext is an initial release. It still has some errors but it will recognise the SD cards. Follow the link given below for future releases.

  • Download «Sinetek-rtsx.kext» from here.
  • Mount EFI partition.
  • Copy «Sinetek-rtsx.kext» to EFI/Clover/Kexts/Others.
  • Reboot.

HDMI Audio

  • Mount EFI partition.
  • Go to EFI/Clover and open «config.plist» with Clover Configurator.
  • In the «Devices» tab click on «Properties»:
    • Go to PciRoot(0)/Pci(0x02,0) and remove the «#» from:
      • framebuffer-con2-enable
      • framebuffer-con2-pipe
      • framebuffer-con2-type
    • Go to PciRoot(0)/Pci(0x03,0) and remove the «#» from:
      • hda-gfx
      • layout-id (If you don’t have «layout-id» add it. Also, don’t forget the number must be «3» in the «Properties Value»
  • Reboot.

If you’ve made up to this point, congratulations! You have your Laptop (almost) fully working with MacOS Catalina. However, as I mentioned before WiFi and Bluetooth are not compatible with the MacOS operating system. Nevertheless, I’ll leave a link on some of the options you can choose from if you want to buy another WiFi card: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/broadcom-wifi-bluetooth-guide.242423/

Troubleshooting
If you have any issues or questions about your installation or you’re coming from another ASUS laptop, just comment below.

Thank you Rehabman, acidanthera, and many other people for the incredible support in the hackintosh world.
