ASUS PCE-N15 Installation

Good evening, folks. I have looked around quite a bit and tried to use the readme.txt that came with the drivers I downloaded but the commands don’t work and I’m just plain lost here.

I’ve got a box running Ubuntu 10.04. I know it’s not the newest version, but it’s the newest version that does what I need it do do. I’ve been all over here the last few days trying to get all of the bugs worked out because I’m tired of Windows running slow and constantly failing me. By bugs, I suppose one could infer that the real problem lies with the fact that I don’t know what the crap I’m doing.

So. I’ve downloaded the drivers for Linux from the ASUS page, specifically the package named Linux_PCE_N15_1008.zip. I have no idea what to do after extracting the archive. I have read another thread about installing this card in Ubuntu 11.04 but the commands return error messages along the lines of missing syntax or unknown commands. I read the manual of which I downloaded a .pdf but the only instructions I have seen are for Windows. Please help! I need a line-by-line on this one. Thanks in advance.

[SOLVED] Asus PCE-N15 not working in 17.1

I have spent the last 3 days trying to get my new wifi card to work — I’ve shouted at it, sworn at it, threatened to throw it in the bin, but to no avail. It’s an Asus PCE-N15 which I believe is a Realtek chipset, and I’m running Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca. Googling around and searching the forums there seem to be plenty of others having problems with this card/chipset. As a Linux n00b I’ve tried to implement many of the suggestions that I’ve read (e.g. using ndiswrapper to install the XP drivers, trying and failing to compile the Linux drivers from the cd and the Asus website) but I fear I’ve simply made the problem worse and turned the config into a shambles.

I’m at work at the moment (ssh don’t tell them I’m on the interwebs!) but as soon as I can I’ll try some diagnostic commands and post the outputs — any suggestions what to run to get the relevant info? I recall something like lspci to list pci devices, and people banging on about modprobe.

Other info that may be relevant — my router is old so it’s 802.11g there’s no n speed. I have a USB dongle that works (my old and trusty Sweex LW053) but I have to use a USB extension trailed across the floor and down the stairs to get reception hence wanting a pci card. Oh and I’ve tried changing the router channel from Auto to 11 but it made no difference.

OK I’m back from work, here’s some info:

I’m guessing that wlan0 is the Sweex USB dongle that I’m currently using to connect to the internet.

If there’s any other info that would be useful just let me know.

Over to the experts, ie you lot out there — help! Please bear in mind I have no real clue what I’m doing.

WiFi ASUS PCE-N10 PCI Express взлетит?

Вот надумал прикупить себе данный девайс.

Windows 7 32bit/64bit

Windows Vista 32bit/64bit

Windows XP 32bit/64bit

Linux Kernel 2.6 (Support Ubuntu only)

Почему только убунта?

На opensuse х86_64 заведется? По идее должна, но хотелось бы точно знать, может есть владельцы данного девайса?

У меня 20 штук N15 карточек, скачал исходники модуля, скомпилил, заработало сразу на Ubuntu 10.04, а новая Ubuntu подхватывает уже из коробки их. ЕМНИП: N10, от N15 отличается кол-вом антенн только.

Вообще поддерживает, но какие проблемы есть (например, поддерживается ли master и ad-hoc) — нужно гуглить. На linuxwireless про этот драйвер почти ничего не написано.

Вобщем купил сабж. Драйвера устанавливать не пришлось, все завелось из каробки.

Две стены от роутера нормально пробивает.

Обрадовала упаковка, рядом со значком win7, крупными буквами Linux Support. Давно этого ждал от производителей.

И что, на последнем ядре работает нормально?

У меня сплошные дисконнекты, стабильного доступа к компу по SSH нет вообще никогда.

А еще, эта зараза гадит в логи роутеру неправильными powerstate-ами.
