Драйвер это по своей сути связующее звено между операционной системой, то есть программным обеспечением и железом, то есть физическими устройствами, таким как видеокарты, принтеры, процессоры и т.д. В операционной системе могут быть заложены базовые драйвера для самых необходимых устройств — мышка, клавиатура, но для всего остального потребуются свежие драйвера.

Как установить драйвер?

a) Для начала надо на рабочем столе выбрать значок (Мой компьютер) и нажать по нему правой кнопкой мыши, в выпадающем меню выбрать (Свойства).

b) Теперь переходим на вкладку (Оборудование) и нажимает на кнопку (Диспетчер устройств).

c) Теперь необходимо выбрать устройство для которого будет устанавливаться/обновляться драйвер. На строке с устройством надо нажать правой кнопкой мыши и в выпадающем меню выбрать (Свойства), либо можно просто дважды по нему щелкнуть, чтобы перейти в нужные настройки.

d) Переходим на вкладку (Драйвер), выбираем кнопку (Обновить).

e) В появившемся диалоговом окне выбираем пункт (Нет, не в этот раз) и переходим (Далее).

f) На этом этапе есть два вариант. Можно попытаться установить драйвера в автоматическому режиме, тогда ОС сама попытается найти подходящие устройству драйвера и установить их, для этого выбираем (Автоматическая установка (рекомендуется)) , если попытка завершится неудачно, то надо переходить ко второму пункту (Установка из указанного места) и выбираем (Далее).

g) Этот пункт меню подразумевает выбор между поиском драйвера на сменных носителях и вариантом указать папку с драйвером самостоятельно. Поэтому если в наличии есть диск с драйверами, то надо вставьте диск в CD-rom и выбрать вариант (Поиск на сменных носителях (дискетах, компакт-дисках..)) и перейти (Далее).

Если драйвер найден и скачен в интернете самостоятельно, то надо указать в ручную путь к папке в которой находятся установочный данные для драйвера следующим образом. Выбираем пункт (Включить следующее место поиска:) и переходим в (Обзор), теперь из списка выбираем папку с драйвером и кликаем на кнопку (ОК). Теперь смело переходим (Далее), если все сделано правильно, то начнется установка необходимого драйвера.

Fingerprint reader on Windows 10?

I’m using Windows 10 Pro on HP Probook 4530s (upgraded from 8.1). I cannot seem to set up fingerprint sign in after the upgrade. I tried reinstalling the Validity fingerprint driver and HP ProtectTools. HP ProtectTools does let me enroll my fingerprints and set up the account, but it doesn’t show up at the login screen. I have enabled biometric log on in Policy Editor, and yet it does not work.

The search results, when I type «fingerprint» shows «Set up fingerprint sign-in». When I click on it, nothing related to fingerprints is shown.

How can I fix this?

Update: I switched to a local account (from the Microsoft account I had been using) and now I can use the fingerprint sign-in and other credentials provided by HP ProtectTools! Is there a way I can use my Hotmail account AND ProtectTools together? Because Cortana needs a Microsoft account to function properly ._.

Yip, same problem. Dell latitude laptop with built-in fingerprint scanner. After two days chatting with Dell and Microsoft I gave up. I too have no option to activate fingerprint scanning in Windows 10. I reinstalled drivers to no avail. Installed Dell Security but it is not working with Windows 10 at all. A search on Windows 10 finds fingerprint sign in setup, but when you click on it, it only gives you password, pin, picture sign in option. My windows don’t have «windows hello» anywhere?

I tried Jellybean’s solution, but it did not work either.

Dell’s solution was to roll back to 8.1. That made me mad as their website stated my Laptop was ready for the upgrade, when clearly it is not. Just tell me it is not ready, then I will wait?

I upgraded in place from Windows 8, to Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. The AuthenTec fingerprint reader in my Toshiba Satellite laptop worked better than it ever did as shipped by Toshiba in Windows Vista.

Today I did a clean install of Windows 10. Now the fingerprint reader does not work because I need to activate Windows Biometric Framework. How do I do that? I could see a greyed-out option for the fingerprint reader one of the settings window.

AuthenTec Protector Suite 2012 Common version ps_common5.9.8.7279-64bit that I installed and it works very well. The common refers to machines without WBF Windows Biometric Foundation.

After installing the Common version I checked in Settings again and there is no entry for fingerprint reader any more but I did notice a biometric device and driver.

So the clue for this device at least is to use software that does not depend on WBF.

HP Support may be the best place to contact. From what is stated on AuthenTec’s website thay may provide the updated drivers to the vendor, HP in this case.

I was expecting Authentec to do as UPEK (http://www.upek.com/support/downloads/windows7/learnmorew7.asp) and just make it easy for all of us to get the drivers and the software. Rolando Ramirez

Well, Thursday I sent an email to Authentec asking for help.

In the meantime new hp laptops with Windows 7 and Authentec Fingerprint reader were available. I checked the downloads for tx2-1370 (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=4041813&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us), there was an updated driver (sp45355.exe for 32bits) wich included a verson of TrueSuite that only works for Windows Logon. No updates for the password managment software. Rolando Ramirez

Still no reply from Authentec but after a lot of web research I found I solution:

1) Uninstall *all* previous fingerprint reader drivers

4) Update DigitalPersona to v4.11 using the autoupdate feature of the software

5) Reboot & Enjoy

Sadly, it seems DigitalPersona is not as good as Bioscrypt VeriSoft Access Manager, It doesn’t work with Cisco VPN Client v5 and MS Office Communicator 2007R2.

Still waiting for an updated version of Bioscrypt VeriSoft Access Manager or Authentec’s TrueSuite. Rolando Ramirez

I have a similar problem as you. I have done a clean install of Win 7 home premium on my HP Pavilion DV6606TX, which was previously running Vista. The VeriSoft Access Manager by Bioscrypt fingerprint software I used before is apparently not compatible with Win7. In any case, I see the company, now L-1 Identity Solutions, has discontinued the VeriSoft Access Manager. My backed up Verisoft profile is thus useless, losing all my passwords.

Now I have AuthenTec AES2501A Fingerprint Driver installed, which installed automatically by Win7. In the driver window, it says it works fine and when I go to Biometric devices and try to register my fingerprint, it launches TrueSuite 2.0 by AuthenTec. But when I swipe my finger there is no reaction. On the company’s website they say that: The newest version of TrueSuite is designed to be compatible with AuthenTec sensors only. So is this the problem and what to do now?

Seems you have found ‘a’ solution not ‘the’ solution and this is really a poor show by HP, the so-called Nr. 1 computer company in the world. Don’t know about you but my laptop is just 2 years old and for them not to provide support for Win 7 is just beyond belief.
