Решение проблем с установкой и запуском BFME 1 на Windows 8, 10 + визуальные улучшения

Наверняка многие сталкивались с проблемой установки лицензионной русской версии первой BFME на системы под управлением Windows 8, 8.1, 10. Сложности возникают как с установкой, так и с запуском игры, в основном из-за несовместимости новых OC с установочными файлами DirectX, причем исключительно русской версии (с английской все нормально). Сам являюсь обладателем лицензионных дисков двух частей (за исключением ROTWK) и обнаружил что такие проблемы возникают только с первой игрой. Образы лицензионных дисков так же выдают ошибки.

Теперь к самим проблемам:

Проблема в том что начиная с Windows 7 при установке игры в системе не создаются параметры конфигураций, без которых игра не сможет запуститься. Решение банально — нужно самим создать эти файлы, а если быть точнее, то перекинуть уже готовые файлы в папку, которая создается автоматически после первого запуска игры. Процесс создания я уже описывал где-то в комментариях, поэтому просто скопирую оттуда:

«Нужная папка находится в AppData, попасть туда можно через команду «выполнить» , можете просто написать название команды в поиске по компьютеру, он найдет сам, так же ее можно вызвать одновременным нажатием клавиши Windows и R, вводите в поле название папки «AppData» и применяете. После попадания в папку, заходите в еще одну папку — «Roaming» и там уже ищите «My Battle for Middle-earth Files». Эта папка появится после первого неудачного запуска игры, после чего скидывайте туда файлы из этого архива, и не забудьте поменять разрешение в игре на разрешение вашего монитора в файле «options» (Строчка «Resolution»), после чего игра спокойно запустится.

Возможно вы обращали внимание на то что текстуры в игре начинают размываться, если смотреть на них под большим углом. Это делает игру неколько «мыльной» и у некоторых людей может вызвать некоторое отторжение. Вторая часть лишена этого недостатка изначально и там менять ничего не нужно. А вот как убрать это размытие в первой части мы сейчас и поговорим. С установкой драйверов на видеокарту по умолчанию должна устанавливаться и специальная программа для управления видеоадаптером (Catalyst Control Center у AMD и панель управления от NVIDIA), которая нам как раз и пригодится.
Нужный нам параметр называется анизотропной фильтрацией, вам нужно просто найти его и выставить значения на максимальные (Для AMD не забудьте сначала поменять находящийся выше пункт на значение «Переопределить настройки приложения»), вот как это сделано у меня:

Дополнительно улучшить графическую часть игры можно за счет шейдеров от мода Return of Shadow, просто перекидывайте их в папку с игрой. Скачать можно тут. Что очень радует, так это то что их можно отключить прямо в игре, нажав на клавишу Scroll Lock.

Немного оценить шейдеры и сравнить с оригиналом можно на картинке ниже (обратите внимание, что на скриншоте видна разница лишь в яркости, в самой игре вы сможете увидеть сглаживание и некоторые другие элементы)

Win10 BFME Fix

В последнее время часто приходится сталкиваться с вопросами пользователей, касающихся проблем с запуском BFME (всех частей) на операционных системах Windows 8, 8.1 и 10. Поскольку явление носит массовый характер, явно пригодится универсальная таблетка от данного рода недуга. И эта волшебная таблетка — в небольшом архиве, который можно скачать по ссылкам выше.

Архив win10fix.rar содержит три папки: «BFME1», «BFME2» и «RotWK» для каждой из частей, соответственно.

Для лечения проблемы запуска надо лишь запустить находящийся в нужной папке файл .exe и следовать инструкциям установщика (грубо говоря, понажимать «далее»). Инсталлер создаст все необходимые папки и пропишет одно значение в реестре.

Помимо этого, в каждой папке находится по два .reg-файла — это ветки реестра для каждой из частей BFME. Их нужно использовать только если у Вас возникли иные проблемы с игрой (к примеру, у Вас установлен не совсем корректный репак навроде BFME2+RotWK, установщик которой не прописывает BFME2 в реестре; или же Вы переустановили операционную систему и на диске сохранилась директория игры, однако в реестре игра не прописана).

Пошаговая инструкция для изменения веток реестра на примере BFME2:

1. Переходим в распакованную из архива 152_win10fix.rar папку BFME2. Находим там два файла: bfme2_1.reg и bfme2_2.reg. В этих файлах зашиты параметры, и после применения .reg-файлов эти параметры пропишутся в качестве веток реестра.
   
2. Выбираем файл bfme2_1.reg, щелкнув по нему ПКМ (правой кнопкой мыши). В появившемся контекстном меню выбираем «Изменить».
   
3. В открывшемся окне блокнота появятся изменяемые параметры. Нас интересует строка с параметром «InstallPath». Меняем значение параметра InstallPath (значение параметра прописывается справа от знака равно) на директорию Вашей копии BFME2. Обратите внимание, что надо использовать двойной слеш \\ вместо обычного \ при указании директории. Также, путь директории должен находиться в кавычках с обеих сторон.
   
   После изменения значения параметра, не забываем сохранить эти изменения (Файл>Сохранить в меню блокнота; также можно использовать комбинацию клавиш Ctrl+S). Можно закрыть окно блокнота.
4. Таким же образом, как описано в пункте 2, открываем для изменения файл bfme2_2.reg. Нам нужен параметр «Install Dir». В нём тоже указываем директорию BFME2 (можно напрямую скопировать значение с прописанной нами директорией с наших изменений в пункте 3).
   
   Сохраняемся и закрываем окошко.
5. Теперь можно применять наши параметры. По очереди активируем bfme2_1.reg и bfme2_2.reg двойным щелчком мыши и соглашаемся на внесение изменений в реестр.
   
   Всё! Мы удачно прописали данные об игре в реестр.

Для указания данных в реестр BFME1 и RotWK надо провести аналогичные действия. Файлы .reg для этих частей находятся в одноименных папках.

Battle for Middle Earth II Windows 10?

I own a valid copy of The Battle for Middle Earth II, as well as the Rise of the Witch-King expansion pack. My parents computer used to be Windows 7, and was able to play the game just fine. They also just recently upgraded their Windows 7 computer to Windows 10, and the game still works on their computer even as Windows 10. (The game was already installed from Windows 7 when they upgraded to 10).

My question is I have my own laptop which I upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10. I attempted to install and run the games when it was Windows 8, but to no avail. Since seeing the game work on my parents Windows 10 computer, I attempted to reinstall and play the games on my now Windows 10 laptop, but the games will not load correctly. They installed successfully, but keep coming up with «Cannot locate CD-ROM» or «Program has stopped working» error messages.

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 15 with i5 64 bit operating system. My laptop does not have a built-in disk drive, so I purchased an external disk drive which has worked just fine for all other purposes. The external disk drive is an LG Slim Portable DVD Writer.

Is it possible for me to successfully run the game(s) on my Windows 10 laptop that work without issue on my parents Windows 10 computer? And if so, what are the steps necessary?

Any help would be seriously appreciated. I love these games, and really hope I can find a way to make them work out on my laptop.

Method 1:

I suggest you to update the graphics card drivers. Refer to the below article to update the drivers in Windows 10.

Method 2:

Step 1: Uninstall the game.

Refer to the below steps to uninstall the game.

Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard, and select Programs and features.

Right Click on Program/game (which you want to uninstall) and select uninstall.

Click on yes if prompted.

Reboot the system and check if you face the issue.

Step 2: Install the game in compatibility mode.

Compatibility mode runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows. Try this setting if you know the program is designed for (or worked in) a specific previous version of Windows. To change compatibility settings manually for a program, right-click the program icon, click Properties , and then click the Compatibility tab. Follow the below steps to install the game in compatibility mode.

1. Right-click on the game setup file (game which you need to install again) and click on Properties.

1. Click on the compatibility tab and check the box Run this program in compatibility mode for and select previous Operating System from the drop down.
2. Click on Apply and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.

Thank you for the feedback. I attempted to run the game in compatibility mode with Windows 7 and other compatibility options, but none of them worked. I also went through and updated my drivers as described, but still no success.

This morning I also tried copying over the full list of «AppData» for this game from my parents computer, and copy-pasting the files into my «AppData» for the game because the folder was empty and I had read other forums suggesting to manually enter an options.ini file, which I had tried but had not worked. Even with an exact copy of the existing and working files from my parents Windows 10 computer, it still did not work on mine.

I tried running compatibility mode on the game with various options, but none of them worked.

I still got the «Program is not Responding» error message while trying to load the game, and more often I’ve been receiving the «Cannot locate CR-ROM» error, which makes me wonder, is it perhaps my external disk drive that’s the problem? Because it worked to install the game, works to load CD’s or burn them, etc. But for whatever reason the game just will not run.

Any feedback or potential fixes would be greatly appreciated

My dad was able to install it on his desktop with Windows 8. I’m not sure how he did it (I’ll have to ask him and edit this post later) but it worked, and it is still running fine after he upgraded to Windows 10. I know little to nothing about PC gaming or anything of the sort, but I can say that getting this to somehow work is definitely possible.

I’ll update this when I have more information.

I am not quite sure what the problem is, but i am suspecting it is 100% driver/OS related.

I can run my disc perfectly fine on my windows 7 computer which I upgraded months ago. However my laptop had problems running bfme2 when it was still on windows 8.1 (I still don’t know how I got it to work but it worked only once). Compatibility mode is not going to work for anyone, all you can hope to get there is telling it to run it as administrator. If you change the windows version compatibility 99/100 times you will get «insert correct disc» pop-up.

One of the strange things I noticed on my system: the game launches with the default missing_icon icon in the task bar. Then quickly my screen flashes and it has no icon at all. After that the screen will go black a moment (like it is actually launching properly) and then it stops working (sometimes even without a «*** has stopped working» pop-up.

For anyone trying to find a fix: options.ini will be missing after installing but it is not the source of this bug/crash. Different resolutions in the options file did not matter on any system I have checked this on.

So far I have no reason to believe that the problem lies within the disc/software (other then the options.ini missing)

Neither do I have any reason to believe that the version of windows is what matters, it is a DRIVER RELATED PROBLEM. I was on the point of downgrading back to windows 8.1 when I decided to check video/audio drivers, turned out that my video driver somehow messed up with it. After uninstalling the driver it finally launched!

If anyone has problems fixing the .ini file, google bfme2 startup fixer. It creates the map when it is missing along with some default setting (if your game doesn’t run after running that fix I suggest you simply give up.

This is most likely a driver related issue, since it isn’t game/disc related OR OS related at all. Please do however always insure that you have the options.ini file before trying to downgrade/upgrade your drivers or anything else.

The driver causing the issue on my PC: Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500. latest version.
