What is Beats Audio?
Beats Audio is essentially a technology that is supposed to give a more in-depth sound experience to users. By adding more speakers, subwoofers, and an amplifier Beats Electronics LLC tries to emulate studio quality audio. The extra speakers and subwoofers are arranged in a special way to help compensate for the shape of the laptop. From a software standpoint extra codecs and digital audio processing is used to improve the sound due to the lack of true surround sound speakers.
According to HP, “. the sound gets optimized to deliver music more clearly than what is offered on most other PCs. We want to increase the dynamics and rich, fullness of the music as if you were listening to it live. This does wonders for those songs that have been dynamically compressed during mastering. PC audio can sound so flat– because there is so much digital noise inside a computer. That affects both the low end and the high end (the stuff that Victor just mentioned matters the most). The Beats people figured out how to compensate for the problems. Usually, the first thing you lose in digital audio is the bass. The sound just isn’t as meaty.”
I have Beats Audio, why does it not seam to work on Linux?
The biggest issue is of course, drivers. Beats Electronics LLC has refused to release any firmware or drivers for use on Linux. While many new Linux distributions have compensated by providing modest support, like Ubuntu usually being able use the two ‘front’ speakers, there is no FULL support for Linux. Like many hardware companies Beats Electronics LLC does not see Linux as a platform worth exploring.
So, what does this lack of support mean for me?
Like many other hardware issues, a developer will need to get their hands on data sheets for each HP laptop with Beats Audio and write some drivers themselves. Of course HP is treating the Beats Audio technology with a guarded hand, which means you have to find out how many speakers you have by experimenting. I have found a way to fix the beats audio mess on some HP laptops, which is the purpose of this article. Due to the differences in laptop models I cannot confirm this technique works on all laptops, I know this technique will require the user to understand their laptop more than most consider sane. If you decide to try this be warned that the process will take many hours of trial and error. This process can work on more than just Beats Audio users by the way.
Getting more information on your audio system.
A friend from the Oz Unity forums showed me this. It will come in handy.
Then just follow the directions. Eventually you will be given a text file with a more detailed overview of your audio system. Including the most important information, the pins.
What tools do I need to fix my Beats Audio on Linux?
The main tool we will be using is HDA-jack-retask. This program allows the user to retask audio jack pins on the motherboard, so that ALSA can recognize them differently. Essentially HDA-jack-retask will apply a firmware patch to the IDT audio firmware.
How to install HDA-jack-retask.
Assuming Ubuntu, sorry if you are not using it, because it is the most widely used Linux distribution.

Проверьте “Шоу не связанные контакты” в правой стороне.
После этого Вы будете видеть различные типы не связанных контактов Вашего аудиодрайвера. Необходимо отобразить эти контакты на правильную часть диска аудио ударов. Необходимо соблюдать осторожность в этой точке.
Вы видите, что существуют различные типы контактов. Мы не знаем об этих вещах. Даже я не знаю
что я делаю и сбиваю с толку. НО не волнуйтесь вообще.
Просто необходимо играть на трех контактах. Они — 0x0d, 0x0f и 0×10.
Перейдите к разделу, имеющему идентификатор контакта: 0x0d.
Изменение (Внутренний динамик, Передняя сторона) к “Внутреннему динамику”.
Перейдите к разделу, имеющему идентификатор контакта: 0x0f.
Изменение (Не соединенный) к “Внутреннему динамику”. Эта часть о динамиках под дисплеем.
Перейдите к разделу, имеющему идентификатор контакта: 0×10.
Изменение (Не соединенный) к “Внутреннему динамику (LFE)”. Эта часть о сабвуфере.
Вы наконец сделаны с теми настройками контакта. Примените его теперь. Можно протестировать с некоторым звуком. Проверьте, производят ли все динамики желаемый звук. Настройки должны быть сделаны как в следующем изображении.
Сделайте, как это
Если все в порядке, переопределение начальной загрузки установки с нижней правой стороны, и перезапустите свое устройство.
Наконец у Вас должен быть звук с аудио ударов. Наслаждайтесь звуком и музыкой. Также включите наушники, это должно отключить внешний звук, когда наушник включается.

Начиная с Ubuntu 13.10, hda-jack-retask является частью alsa-tools. Просто установите пакет alsa-tools-gui из обычного архива и запустите «hdajackretask».

Кто нить в курсе, как подружить бук с Beats Audio и Kubuntu?
Или не играет встроенный саб или играет только он.

Попробуйте добавить в файл
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
строчку
options snd-hda-intel model=hp
и перезагрузить алсу:
sudo alsa force-reload
полный список вариантов для model тут. Можно поэкспериментировать если не подойдет hp
Чтоб точно определить какую модель нужно указывать в model= надо посмотреть в выхлопе
lspci
номер Вашего звукового чипа и указать соответствующую модель из ссылки, приведенной выше.
Кстати, инфы на тему Beats Audio и Ubuntu полно . Лень набрать три слова в гугле?
Покажите еще выхлоп
sudo aplay -l
Как ни странно, алса Ваш чип (92HD91) не поддерживает (в списке нет) 🙁
Могу порекомендовать последовательно испытать следующие параметры для model= :
=auto
=ref
=hp-m4
=hp-dv5
=hp-hdx
=hp-dv7-4000
=hp_cNB11_intquad
=hp-zephyr
=hp-led
=hp-inv-led

Есть еще один вариант 🙂 Попробуйте ядро поставить 3.12 отсюда . Где-то в процессе изучения Вашего вопроса попадалось что кому-то помогло. Шансы небольшие, но все таки . При этом тоже поиграться со значением model=

Поставил 3.12 эффекта нет, ну хоть ядро обновил=)
там было ещё 3.12.1 trusty но его не стал ставить
а если вот так:
options snd-card-0 enable=1 index=0 model=basic
options snd-hda-intel enable=1 index=0 model=basic
надо вписать обе строчки
безрезультатно, думаю может на тестовую 14.04 перейти, может запашет
Навряд-ли . В списке даже в 3.12.1 нет Вашего чипа . 🙁 Тут же не в версии кубунты дело, а в ядре .

Главное для k14.04 не нужно не чего устанавливать, а запустить hdajackretask вместо hda-jack-retask, остальное по мануалу #2

Вообщем, долго сидел на окнах, так как в никсе просто ужасный звук был=(
Вышло 14.04, прочитал трекер и решил снова попробывать, проблема решилась (спасибо webs за ссылки кстати по ним же и пробовал в 13.04\13.10 не помогло)
Итак решение для 14.04
1. sudo apt-get install alsa-tools-gui
2. Меню-Приложения-Мультимедия-HDAJackRetask
Выбераем кодек IDT92HD91BXX вместо HDMI кодека
Ставим галочку:
Show unconnected pins
Выставляем галочки и выбираем значения:
Pin ID: 0x0d — Internal speaker
Pin ID: 0x0f — Internal speaker
Pin ID: 0×10 — Internal speaker (LFE)
Применяем: Apply now
Если не удается применить пишет ошибку то:
Смотрим номера процессов использующих звук
sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
Убиваем их коммандой kill xxxx (xxxx — номер процесса)
Альтернатива, можно попробывать убить просто PulseAudio killall -9 pulseaudio
3. alsamixer
F4 выбераем вместо HDMI карты, PCH
Loopback Mixing выставляем стрелкой вверх на Enable
Master(основной), Headphone(у меня передние инамики), Speaker Front(у меня саб или нижняя колонка), PCM — включаем их, если что то не включенно клавишей M, стрелками регулируем значения по вкусу.
4. Записываем настройки в загрузку в программе HDAJackRetask нажатием на Install boot override
5. Перезагружаемся
6. Завариваем хорошего чая и радуемся жизни

I’m new to Linux, and I thought I’d try Linux Mint Cinnamon 18 as my distro of choice. I love everything about it, and I absolutely love Linux! There’s only one glaring problem preventing me from making the full-time switch to Linux Mint, and that’s audio.
I have an HP Pavilion 15-p033ca Notebook(Canadian), and it comes with Beats Audio. My audio driver, according to Mint, is Realtek ALC3241, as I do have Realtek speakers.
Now, I can make the sound a little better than out of the box, but for some reason, it still doesn’t sound as good, as loud and clear, as it does on Windows 10, and I even have Beats Audio turned off. I downloaded PulseAudio Equalizer, and set the preset to «Live» which helped a lot. I also installed alsa-tools-gui, for hdajackretask, but it didn’t help that much, and I don’t have the same pins as others who are using it for their HP laptops with Beats Audio(those posts are also a few years old anyway).
The Linux kernel I’m using is the default one for Mint 18, which is 4.4.0-generic.
I so badly want to switch the Linux Mint full-time, but I want the audio quality to be just as good as it is on Windows 10. It sounds a bit more muffled on Mint.
Is there anything I can download, or do in the terminal, that could help? Should I upgrade my Linux kernel to get more drivers?

«Beats Audio» + Linux? [HP Envy 17]

I purchased an HP Envy 17 3D laptop yesterday which features «beats audio».
Now I never even fired it up with Windows to be honest and immediately installed Linux on the machine.
Is there a way to enable «beats audio» from within Linux?
If not yet, can HP provide the information on how it is enabled?
I would be willing to add support to the relevant drivers if HP provides the required informatino.

HP don’t provide audio drivers for linux. Linux has its own audio drivers. There are two applications for audio support. Alsamixer (ALSA) and Pulse Audio.
If you need help, provide an output of:

I understand that HP isn’t going to provide a driver for Linux. I got audio working on the notebook, just not the subwoofer.
My hope is that HP can share how to enable the subwoofer. If we know how it’s done, we can write a driver ourselfs.

HP is not a sound card manufacturer. You have to contact the manufacturer of the sound card to provide drivers for its products like any other hardware manufacturers do. HP put the hardware together and make working computers. Linux is an open source software and drivers and applications develop individuals or groups on its own. However, some projects like HP Linux Image Printing (HPLIP) develop hardware manufacturers themselves. In this case HP and they have done excellent work..
I think that you should ask on your linux distribution forum instead in here. I know that 5.1 sound works on linux and I’m sure that they will help you.
