Each software is released under license type that can be found on program pages as well as on search or category pages. Here are the most common license types:
Freeware
Freeware programs can be downloaded used free of charge and without any time limitations. Freeware products can be used free of charge for both personal and professional (commercial use).
Open Source
Open Source software is software with source code that anyone can inspect, modify or enhance. Programs released under this license can be used at no cost for both personal and commercial purposes. There are many different open source licenses but they all must comply with the Open Source Definition — in brief: the software can be freely used, modified and shared.
Free to Play
This license is commonly used for video games and it allows users to download and play the game for free. Basically, a product is offered Free to Play (Freemium) and the user can decide if he wants to pay the money (Premium) for additional features, services, virtual or physical goods that expand the functionality of the game. In some cases, ads may be show to the users.
Demo programs have a limited functionality for free, but charge for an advanced set of features or for the removal of advertisements from the program’s interfaces. In some cases, all the functionality is disabled until the license is purchased. Demos are usually not time-limited (like Trial software) but the functionality is limited.
Trial
Trial software allows the user to evaluate the software for a limited amount of time. After that trial period (usually 15 to 90 days) the user can decide whether to buy the software or not. Even though, most trial software products are only time-limited some also have feature limitations.
Usually commercial software or games are produced for sale or to serve a commercial purpose.

BitTorrent for Mac 2021 full offline installer setup for Mac
BitTorrent for Mac is a peer-to-peer protocol designed to transfer files. Users connect directly to send and receive portions of a file, while a central tracker coordinates the action of all peers and manages connections without knowledge of the contents of the files being distributed. With BitTorrent, users upload at the same time they download, so network bandwidth is managed as efficiently as possible. The tool is designed to work better than other file-transfer protocols as the number of people interested in a certain file increases.
Download large files with the easy-to-use BitTorrent client for macOS. Enjoy fast speeds, a simple interface, powerful options and more. Get started now with free, unlimited downloading.
Features and Highlights
Ultra-fast file delivery
Move big files quickly and efficiently. The technology breaks big files down into small pieces. The files are then downloaded, piece by piece, from one or many different sources. Since the files are broken down into tiny bites, you use less bandwidth. Which means your downloads move a lot faster.
Free, unlimited downloading
Download gigabytes. Download terabytes. Distribute petabytes. With Bit Torrent for Mac, there are no limits to the number of files you can download, or the amount of data you can move.
Instant play on in-progress downloads
Watch while you download. You don’t need to wait for your files to finish downloading to start using them. Press play on media files, and watch, listen, or read them as you download.
Built-in bandwidth booster
Optimize speed for your connection. The app auto-adjusts bandwidth usage, based on your network and Internet connection, to ensure fast file delivery. Your downloads run in the background. Which means they’ll never slow down video chats or game play.

BitTorrent for Mac
Softonic review
The original Bittorrent client
BitTorrent for Mac is one of the first ever BitTorrent clients, also available for Windows.
Torrent sharing consists of sharing large files, like movies, software, or games with other peers. The file you want to download is cut up into small segments shared by users, creating what is called a swarm, and does not go through a central server, significantly reducing the bulk of file transfers. The Bittorrent client was actually the first P2P application to use this technology and became immensely popular when it was released.
Thanks to a straightforward, uncluttered interface BitTorrent for Mac appears as a friendly torrent client that beginners will feel comfortable with. In fact, the latest version looks uncannily like uTorrent although the functionality is nowhere near as good, unfortunately.
Once you’ve found the torrent you want, download it to your Mac, open it up inside BitTorrent for Mac and let the client do its job. The speed at which you download will depend on the number of seeds, that is people who have the complete file and are sharing it. The more seeds there are the quicker files will download. However, a frequent complaint with BitTorrent for Mac is that downloads rarely start and when they do, they can be notoriously unstable.
You can improve things slightly by changing the settings of multiple torrent downloads but there are few diagnostic tools to help you work out the problem. At the very least, you should choose the right port and setting upload and download rate limits to avoid hogging your bandwidth. It’s also good to set your downloads by priority to monitor more precisely how your torrents are doing.
Compared to the exhaustive Azureus, Bittorrent is very simplistic. And compared to other alternatives such as uTorrent or qBitttorent, it doesn’t work half as well despite similarities in appearance. It doesn’t provide many statistics and doesn’t let you customize the interface. Integrating a search box is a great idea, but it limits searches to the BitTorrent website, not considered the most thorough source by torrent aficionados.
Note that BitTorrent gives you access to a huge number of digital files and should only be used for sharing legal P2P content.
BitTorrent for Mac may have once been a good starting point in the P2P world but there are now several other clients which are far more effective.
- Various bug fixes
- Added utWEB support
- Added RSS support
- Added scheduler
- Updated UI
- Fixed support for secure trackers
- Improved rate limiting
