  • Dozens of new death animations and multilations for almost every monster.
  • Removed vertical recoil for minigun’s primary fire.
  • Fixed a bug causing the minigun to spend one bullet without actually firing anything at the start of the fire animation.
  • New smoke effects.
  • Better sprites for smashed brain pieces.
  • New sprites for the Plasma Rifle and new alternate attack.
  • Improved blood decals.
  • Fixed a bug causing barrels to dont cause damage when exploding over a liquid surface.
  • Improved Lost Soul’s death.
  • Fixed dynamic lights for some projectiles.
  • When a burning zombie runs into an explosive barrel, the barrel will always explode.
  • The flying bodies of zombies and imps killed by explosives will now cause area damage.
  • Added The «Super Marines». They will follow you everywhere, and if they get too far, they will teleport next to you. They will talk to you. They will give you items. They will salute you if you salute them. They are supposed to follow you into other levels. Sometimes they will fail to know where you are and teleport next to you. This usually happens if you enter a teleport while they were standing next to you and not moving.
  • Added localized damage on legs for zombies and imps. Now legs amputations happens when you actually shot their legs, and not randomly. But shooting legs now deals less damage.
  • Fatalities are now much faster, and will give 50% less health. But now the health given by these adrenaline boosts can go over 100%.
  • Super shotgun can kill Cacodemons with a single shoot at point — blank range and Hell Knights with a shoot to the face, but now it requires more time to reload.
  • During the «Revenant Baseball» fatality, the player can aim at an enemy during the fatality and kill it with the revenant head.
  • New animations: Hell Nobles will roar at the player when spoted.
  • Fixed a bug causing sticky gibs to spawn far away from the wall.
  • Further improved smashed brain sprites.
  • Much improved melee combat.
  • Burning barrels can be used as a weapon; it can be kicked, and its burning fuel will lit the ground, dealing heavy damage on enemies.
  • Integrated Perkristian’s HD sounds.
  • New gibs for players that now have the correct color translation.
  • Added bouncecounts to all bouncing objects to prevent infinite bounce loop on elevators.
  • non-interactive gib pieces disappears after 2000 tics to prevent fps drops.

  • Nerfed Super Shotgun (increased spread and reload time).
  • Nazis and Commander Keen upgrades removed because it was breaking compatibility with wads using DEHACKED.
  • Cyberdemon will need to take 12 rocket headshots instead of 8 to die quickly.
  • Improved stealth kill sprites.
  • Improved Revenant’s blood, gib pieces, and now it acts like a real undead creature (you must destroy its torso or head to stop him. He will still able to fight after you destroy his legs)
  • Added more brains to Imp’s curbstomp fatality.
  • Fixed a bug causing shotgunguys and chaingunguys to not drop weapons after a Stealth Kill.
  • Fixed a bug causing the Rocket Launcher to do no splash damage when a rocket exploded on a ceiling.
  • FIxed a bug causing some projectiles to unable to hit the head of a Mastermind.
  • Fixed a bug that wouldn’t make zombiemen be set on fire by imp fireballs.
  • Fixed a bug causing the assault rifle to bug when you tryied to reload the weapon with a full clip while aiming down the sights.
  • Explosive Barrels will no longer explode when hit by punches, kicks, or lost soul attacks.
  • Fixed a bug allowing the player to do punches while in a fatality.
  • Improved deaths when enemies are killed by kicks on berserk state.
  • Punches will no longer force the player to stop and face the target.
  • Imps can swim underwater.
  • Killing an enemy with a freezing weapon will cause it to have a new death animation.
  • Improved zombieman and shotgunguy curbstomps, and added more brains.
  • Revenant Missile Launcher only fires when it has a valid target.
  • Changed the way that mancubus fireball behaves; now it will explode on impact, launching burning fuel in all directions.
  • When an enemy is kicked or tossed away by explosions, it will able to hurt other enemies and infight.
  • New guts looks much better now.
  • Fixed stealth monsters.
  • Added horizontal cut death animation for Demons.
  • So many minor fixes that I even forgot to list.

Не я один так думаю, и фанаты продолжают выпускать аддоны к этим играм, поддерживая их в актуальном состоянии (а что еще делать, если нормальные шутеры перестали выпускать?). Грея душу нам, олдовым старперам.

Сегодня я расскажу о своих любимых дополнениях, которые помогали мне снять стресс, после тяжелых рабочих дня. Забавно, что не смотря но то что на основном компьютере у меня зачем-то стоит топовая видеокарта, ничего требовательнее второго Квейка я так и не запускал.

Brutal Doom

Помните, что когда-то давным давно Doom был запрещен из за запредельной жестокости? Это сейчас он нам кажется таким квадратным, милым и добрым, что даже в Германии его разрешили. Ну так вот, наконец вышел мод который дотягивает уровень жести до того, что его пора бы запретить его еще разок . Встречайте — Brutal Doom.

  • Море крови и дырок от пуль на стенах и прямо на вашем экране (и море, это мягко сказано)
  • Изменен баланс с упором на скорость и динамику. Что-то ближе к Serious Sam в его лучших проявлениях
  • Смачные зрелищные спецэффекты. Видели бы вы как бешенно тут все трясет при взрывах!
  • Жуткие но при этом сочные звуки
  • Иногда монстры не умирают сразу, и их можно добивать используюя жосткие фаталити (за это дают бонусные броню и здоровье)
  • Куча новых анимаций смертей монстров и игроков с кинематографичным полетом камеры. Например бык может натурально съесть зомби. А вы, в приступе берсерка, разорвать быка на 2 части. И вся это в стильной квадратной графике. Кстати! Вам тоже могут сделать фаталити
  • Удар ногой на Q, чего так не хватало для подло выскакивающих в упор монстров. А еще их можно скидывать с обрывов!
  • Новое, клёвое оружие. Нет больше сильных и слабых пушек. Теперь каждая пушка — сама по себе очень крутая. Например вместо пистолета — универсальная винтовка с хорошим прицеолом
  • A кулаками можно совершать стелс-убийства а так же ловить и кидать горящие головы
  • Хедшоты наносят двойной уроном
  • Необходимость перезаряжать оружие. Супостаты перезаряжаются тоже, давая вам шанс выскочить из укрытия, и завалить их в упор
  • Монстры научились прыгать. Так что если теперь вы попробуете хитро растрелять беззащитного демона на недоступной платформе, он обязательно спуститься к вам, и объяснит почему так делать нечестно
  • Можно выпиливать (в буквальном смысле) пушки у Ревенантов и Манкубусов
  • Наконец то можно разрушать и поджигать предметы окружения
  • Еще множество адских сюрпризов

Вообщем Brutal Doom — адские стероиды, которые на 200% реанимируют старый добрый Дум. Действие напоминает последние полчаса фильма Cabin In The Woods. С модом веселее и интереснее проходить разные мегавады (да, до сих пор талантивые люди делают для нас новые уровни). Или наример мне этот мод на пару с Hires-Текстурами дал мне повод в n-ный раз пройти Doom 2 на Nightmare. Единственный комментарий который крутился у меня в голове — «wow, this was pretty intense«.

Короче, включайте музычку потяжелее, и лучшего антистресса вам не найти!

How To Run Brutal Doom v21 On Linux

Just as easy as running Brutal Doom on Windows

In this article, we’ll cover how to install the Brutal Doom mod version 21 (latest as of this article) using the GZDoom engine and WAD files from the Freedoom project.

What is Brutal Doom?

Simply put, Brutal Doom is a game mod that makes the original much more violent (and fun!) than ever before. From the ModDB entry:

It makes the game much more violent than before. There’s much more blood, plus it adds unique gibs, death animations, dismemberments, headshots, executions, fire and explosion particles, flares, and much more.

Brutal Doom was created back in 2010 and has won several awards such as the 18th Cacoward winner and Moddb 2012 MOTY Editors Choice of Creativity Award.

Installing Brutal Doom

Believe it or not, y ou do not have to own Doom or Doom 2 to play the Brutal Doom mod. Since the Doom engine was Open Sourced a long time ago, you can use one of the many modern Doom engines to play the mod.

However, if you want to play the original Doom levels & episodes, you will need to purchase those separately.

For this article, we’ll be using GZDoom with WADs from the Freedoom project.

Let’s get started by Installing GZDoom:

  1. Go to the ZDoom website.
  2. Download GZDoom for your desired platform.
  3. Install GZDoom onto your system.

Next, let’s download the WADs from the Freedoom project:

  1. Go to the Freedoom website
  2. Download the zip file for Freedoom: Phase 1+2
  3. Extract freedoom1.wad & freedoom2.wad to a directory searchable by GZDoom.

Finally, let’s download the Brutal Doom Mod:

  1. Go to the Brutal Doom entry on ModDB
  2. Download the latest version of Brutal Doom
  3. Extract the mod’s .pk3 file to a directory accessible by GZDoom

Running Brutal Doom

Now that we have all three components, let’s set GZDoom up to play the mod!

If you’ve extracted the Freedoom WADs to a directory searchable by the GZDoom engine, you should see a little popup each time you launch the game.

If not, you may have to tweak the GZDoom config.ini file.

Launching GZDoom with Brutal Doom enabled can be done a few different ways:

  1. Update the desktop shortcut to include the Brutal Doom pk3 file
  2. Write a script/batch file launcher
  3. Launch GZDoom with the Brutal Doom pk3 from a terminal/cmd

I prefer option 1 because it’s super easy. Simply modify the desktop shortcut to include the Brutal Doom pk3 file as an argument.

For example, here’s mine (on Linux):

Windows users will want to modify the target attribute of the desktop shortcut to include the path to the Brutal Doom pk3 file.

Playing Brutal Doom

If you log into one of the Freedoom WADs and see the menu screen with the Brutal Doom logo, you are good to go!

Now get out there and send those demons back to where they came from!

Brutal Doom’s install on Windows is easy-peasy, just download ZDoom, GZDoom or Zandronum, copy the Doom WADS and the Brutal Doom pk3 on the source port’s folder.

Start Brutal Doom without dragging and dropping the pk3 into the source port executable
Create a shortcut to the source port’s executable, then right-click it and select «Properties», add to the shortcut’s target «brutal19.pk3» and that’s it!

In my case the shortcut’s target is:
C:\Games\ZDoom\zdoom.exe brutal19.pk3 DoomMetalVol4.wad

That loads Brutal Doom and the Doom Metal Soundtrack (which you should download), in case you have multiple Doom WADS in your source port’s directory, you’ll be able to choose which one to load before starting the port.

Getting Brutal Doom to work on Linux
In my computer (Netbook) I’m also using Manjaro, and the game works fine at 640×480 (1024×600 also works, but explosions slow it down a lot), Though you should be able to build a source port from source (. ), Manjaro makes it a bit easier.

First you need to install yaourt, then on a terminal type «yaourt zdoom» (or GZDoom or Zandronum) and it will make the package building and install.

Once the source port is installed, go to «

/.config/zdoom» (or gzdoom) and copy there your Doom WADS and the brutal doom pk3.

Finally on a terminal type:
zdoom brutal19.pk3
And it should start without problems.
