EAGLE (Easily Applicable Graphical Layout Editor) is an ECAD program produced by Cadsoft in Germany. It is very commonly used by private electronics enthusiasts, because there is a very usable free demo version for nonprofit use and is available in English and German. Cadsoft has released versions for Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. EAGLE provides a schematic editor, for designing circuit diagrams and a tightly integrated PCB layout editor, which automatically starts off with all of the components required by the schematic. Components are manually arranged on the board, with the help of coloured lines showing the eventual connections between pins that are required by the schematic, to aid in finding a placement that will allow the most efficient track layout.
It also provides a good autorouter, which once the components have been placed will attempt to automatically find an optimal track layout to make the electrical connections. It does not always manage to find a way of routing all the signals, although it permits manual routing of critical paths such as power and high frequency lines before letting the autorouter handle the other connections.
EAGLE is very popular with hobbyists because the free demo is able to create usable PCBs. (Free ECADs from some companies are crippled so that they won’t save or won’t print.) The only limitations of boards made with the EAGLE demo are: 2 copper layers; a maximum size of 80mm x 100mm (½ Eurocard)(
4in). The demo version of the schematic editor module can only create single-sheet schematics.
The licensing structure for the commercial version is very flexible. In order to use the demo version to make commercial products, it must be licensed for $49 USD. If more is needed, it is also possible to license the required extra modules (schematic capture, layout, autorouter) separately and simply purchase more if needs change.

EAGLE позволяет проектировать многослойные платы, содержащие до 16 слоёв и имеющие размеры 1626х1626 мм при разрешающей способности 0,0001 мм. Систему единиц (дюймовую или метрическую) можно изменить на любой фазе работы с проектом без каких-либо потерь.
Одним из основных достоинств данного пакета профессионалы выделяют полную синхронность изменений в проекте. К примеру, если вы изменили или удалили какой-либо компонент на схеме, это тут же отразится на рисунке платы. В таких программах, как ACCEL EDA, P-CAD и OrCAD необходимо постоянно контролировать весь проект, при малейших изменениях и на любом этапе работы. Кроме того, в EAGLE откат событий (UNDO) возможен на любое количество действий (такое не позволяет делать даже самый мощный на сегодняшний день CAD – ACCEL EDA).

How to Install Autodesk EAGLE On Windows, Mac and Linux

There’s a ton of enhancements and new features inside to help you push your engineering limits in your schematic editing, PCB layout, and BGA fanouts. But not everything has changed. The EAGLE that you know and love continues to work on your platform of choice, whether that’s Windows, Mac, or Linux. This is what continues to make EAGLE so popular – it’s the PCB design software for every engineer , regardless of your operating system preference. We’ve got them all covered in this installation blog. Enjoy!
System Requirements
You won’t need a supercomputer to run the new Autodesk EAGLE. We’ve kept things simple and efficient to allow your PCB designs to run on any platform with a variety of hardware configurations. Before you get started, make sure you meet the minimum requirements below for your operating system:

For the 64 bit version of Autodesk EAGLE, you’ll need libc.so.6 with subversion GLIBC_2.14 or higher.

Installing Autodesk EAGLE On Windows
For our installation blog, we’ll be working with Windows 10, but your experience should largely be similar whether you’re on Windows 7 or Windows 8. Here’s what to do:
- First, download your installer on the Autodesk EAGLE Free Download page .
- When your download is finished, open
If you get a security warning, select the Run button to continue.
Get started with the Autodesk EAGLE setup processing by accepting the license agreement and selecting ‘Next ‘.
Select the Install button once you have all of your setup settings finalized.
Log into your Autodesk account or create a new one to get started with Autodesk EAGLE.
After signing in you should be greeted with the familiar yet new Autodesk EAGLE Control Panel as shown below! You’re ready to start your next design.

Quick Note: The first time you open Autodesk EAGLE you’ll likely get a warning dialog saying that a directory doesn’t exist for your files. Autodesk EAGLE is just letting you know that it needs to create this directory to store all of your project files and such. You can select the Yes button to create this directory, and this warning will never show up again.
Installing Autodesk EAGLE On a Mac
Autodesk EAGLE is one of few PCB design software available on Mac, which makes it the tool of choice for the growing numbers of Mac-centric engineers out there. The installation process to get Autodesk EAGLE running on a Mac is just as simple as Windows, here’s what to do:
- First, download your installer on the Autodesk EAGLE Free Download page.
- When your download is finished, go ahead, and open
to begin the installation wizard.
Select the Continue button to progress through the installation setup process which includes accepting the license agreement and choosing an installation location.
Cruise through the Autodesk Installer on Mac OS with the Continue button to accept the license agreement and installation location.
Select the Install button to start your Autodesk EAGLE installation.
After signing it, you’ll be greeted with the Autodesk EAGLE Control Panel as shown below. You are all set on Mac OS!

We’ll be installing Autodesk EAGLE on the latest release of Ubuntu, version 16.04, 64-bit. Here’s how to get started:
- First, download your installer on the Autodesk EAGLE Free Download page .
- Next, you need to extract
To do this, open your Downloads folder, right-click the Autodesk EAGLE file, and select Open With Archive Manager.
Open your downloaded Autodesk EAGLE installer with the Archive Manager in Ubuntu.
Extract all of your Autodesk EAGLE files to a location of your choice.
Open your newly extracted eagle-8.0.0 folder in the Ubuntu terminal.
Ready to begin with the Autodesk EAGLE Control Panel in Ubuntu.
You’re done! Anytime you want to run Autodesk EAGLE in the future simply pop open your terminal, navigate to the eagle-8.0.0 folder, and enter “./eagle run” to bring up your Control Panel .
