Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro

Before upgrading to Windows 10 Pro, make sure your device is up to date and running the most recent version of Windows 10 Home. For more info about how to keep your PC updated, see Windows Update: FAQ.

To upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro and activate your device, you’ll need a valid product key or a digital license for Windows 10 Pro.

Note: If you don’t have a product key or a digital license, you can buy Windows 10 Pro from Microsoft Store. Select the Start button, select Settings > Update & Security > Activation , and then select Go to Microsoft Store. From here, you can also see how much this upgrade will cost.

If you got Windows 10 by.

Upgrading to Windows 10 for free from an eligible device running a genuine copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.

Buying a Windows 10 Pro upgrade from the Microsoft Store app and successfully activated Windows 10.

Being a Windows Insider and upgrading to the newest Windows 10 Insider Preview build on an eligible device that was running an activated earlier version of Windows and Windows 10 Preview.

Buying genuine Windows 10 from the Microsoft Store app.

Buying a copy of Windows 10 from an authorized retailer.

Find it on a label inside the Windows 10 box. A digital license will be given to your device for Windows 10 based on the valid product key you entered.

If you bought your PC from a manufacturer, the manufacturer, not Microsoft, must provide a product key.

Buying a digital copy of Windows 10 from an authorized retailer.

Find it in the confirmation email you received after buying Windows 10 or in a digital locker accessible through the retailer’s website.

A digital license will be given to your device for Windows 10 based on the valid product key you entered.

Having a Volume Licensing agreement for Windows 10 or MSDN subscription.

It is available through the web portal for your program.

Buying a new or refurbished device running Windows 10.

It is preinstalled on your device, included with the device packaging, or included as a card or on the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) attached to the device.

If you bought a refurbished PC, the refurbisher, not Microsoft, must provide you a product key.

Find it in the confirmation email that contains the order history.

If you’re ready to upgrade, select one of the following headings to get started:

To upgrade, select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & Security > Activation .

If you have a digital license for Windows 10 Pro, and Windows 10 Home is currently activated on your device, you’ll see one of two messages when you select Go to Microsoft Store:

If you see Install, select the button to install Windows 10 Pro.

If you see Buy, you may need to purchase a Windows 10 Pro license. Or, try to sign in to Microsoft Store with the Microsoft account that was used to purchase the Pro license. Then, follow the instructions to install Windows 10.

If you have a digital license for Windows 10 Pro, but Windows 10 Home isn’t activated on your device, select Troubleshoot and then follow the instructions to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & Security > Activation .

Select Change product key, and then enter the 25-character Windows 10 Pro product key.

Select Next to start the upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

Hi shermonshum, the only route Microsoft provides us with to downgrade from Home to Pro is a clean install, of Windows 10 Home . .

You will need to backup your Data, clean install Windows 10 Home, then restore your data and then re-install your 3rd party applications . . .

You can reinstall Windows 10 at any time and it will not cost you anything !

Since you previously had Windows 10 installed and activated on that PC during the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option ‘I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC’, and activation will not be an issue, your PC will have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers

Make sure you install the same Edition of Windows 10 (Home, Pro . . . etc.) you previously had installed to avoid Activation issues

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS) to begin installing Windows 10

If you have problems booting from a boot disc, you may have UEFI BIOS:
Insert the Bootable Installation Media, then go into your BIOS and make the following changes:
1. Disable Secure Boot
2. Enable Legacy Boot
3. If Available enable CSM
4. If Required enable USB Boot
5. Move the device with the bootable disc to the top of the boot order
6. Save BIOS changes, restart your System and it should boot from the Installation Media

Scenario 1: If you have Windows 10 home and got it upgraded to Pro and now you wanna get back to Home, then it can be easily done by changing “Product key” by going into the “Activation” section of Update and Security in Control Panel.

If you’re running the latest build 1709 (Fall Creators Update) then it can be downgraded by simply by putting your Home product key.

Otherwise, you will have to do a clean install. There’s a Registry hack according to a Microsoft MVP which should work (do it at your own risk):

Open Registry Editor(WIN + R, type regedit, hit Enter)
Browse to key HKEY_Local Machine > Software > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion
Change EditionID to Home (double click EditionID, change value, click OK). In your case it should at the moment show Pro
Change ProductName to Windows 10 Home. In your case it should at the moment show Windows 10 Professional
Browse to key HKEY_Local Machine > Software > Wow6432Node > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion, change the same two values as in steps 3 and 4 above
Close the Registry Editor
Insert the Windows 10 Homeinstallation media, do an in-place upgrade by launching the setup from desktop (not booting with Windows 10 Home install media)
When asked, enter your validWindows 10 Home product key and select what to keep(settings, personal files and apps, only personal files or nothing)
Windows 10 Home in-place upgrade will be done now

Существуют версии для одного языка, поставляемые и в другие страны, соответственно там язык именно той страны в которую он поставляется.

Home — Полноценная домашняя версия, включает весь необходимый функционал для использования операционной системы дома, в офисе и для личного использования.

Pro — Профессиональная версия, имеет более расширенный функционал. Например есть поддержка удаленного управления компьютером, что отсутствует в домашней версии.

Enterprise — Корпоративная версия, подходит для использования в офисах и на предприятиях. Лицензия, как правило, поставляется юридическим лицам и содержит разрешение установки сразу на несколько машин.

Education — Версия разработана специально для образовательных учреждений, как правило не распространяется свободно в продаже.

S — Версия для студентов и так же образовательных учреждений, так же не возможно приобрети простому пользователю, но бывает предустановленной на ноутбуках.

Существуют и еще несколько версий, но они, как правило, не востребованы простыми пользователями.

Эти версии используются в определенном кругу и для специфических задач. Поэтому не стоит им уделять внимание, а те кто в них нуждается о них знает намного больше чем мы с вами.

Что произойдет при переходе на другую версию windows 10

Если вы решили сменить вашу версию windows 10 на другую — Вам не обязательно переустанавливать все заново.

Предусмотрена смена версии операционной системы без переустановки.

При этом сохраняются все ваши данные, документы, фото и прочие файлы. Так же сохраняется все программное обеспечение, оно остается полностью работоспособным.

В процессе перехода на новую версию, операционная система до устанавливает не достающий функционал или наоборот удаляет его.

В зависимости от того, с какой и на какую версию вы переходите.

Как перейти на другую версию windows 10

Чтоб перейти на другую версию windows 10, совсем не обязательно полностью переустанавливать систему.

Достаточно приобрести ключ от новой версии и ввести его в специальном разделе параметров.

Открываем меню пуск — параметры — обновление и безопасность — Активация.

В окне активации выбираем пункт Изменить ключ продукта. Откроется такое окно

Вот в этом окне вводим лицензионный ключ от новой версии windows 10 и нажимаем Далее.

Потом вам зададут еще несколько вопросов о том, что вы точно хотите этого и в последствии система обновит систему до редакции. которой соответствует введенный вами ключ.

Если у вас нет нужной лицензии windows 10

Если у вас нет необходимой лицензии, можно скачать с сайта майкрософт необходимый установочный образ и установить новую версию.

Соответственно новая версия будет работать только в течении пробного периода.

Но если вам этого достаточно и вам нужно для ознакомительных целей, то это не запрещено. По окончании пробного периода придется удалить систему.

Можно воспользоваться средством обновления maicrosoft, и в процессе установки указать нужную версию.

Если вы планируете приобрести лицензию в ближайшие дни, а перейти необходимо сегодня, то существуют специальные ключи для смены версии.

Данные ключи работают только в случае повышения версии с низшей на более старшую и не дают активации.

Ваша операционная система не становится активированной и лицензионной. Вы можете использовать такую операционную систему только в ознакомительных целях.

Change the Windows 10 license with License Switch

License Switch is a free portable software program for Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system to change the license of the system to another one.

While it is quite easy to switch from one edition of Windows 10 to another using built-in tools — all you have to do is run changepk.exe /ProductKey KEY to do so — it is not working for all editions of Windows 10.

It is possible to switch from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro using the command line tool but not the other way around.

License Switcher review

License Switcher is an easy to use program to switch from any one edition of Windows 10 to another. Uses may get blocked downloads in Chrome and other browsers by default but they can unlock these easily to complete the download. Windows 10 too may throw a SmartScreen warning which uses can bypass.

Last but not least, elevated rights are necessary to run the tool as it changes the license of the system.

The interface of the application displays the license type, partial Windows key, License ID and other information about the license in the interface. Users find options at the top to switch to a different edition and license.

All it takes to do so is select another edition and/or license, and click on the switch button afterward. Note that you do need a valid Product key to activate the new license.

The program supports the following editions at the time of writing:

• Enterprise: S, SN, N, Enterprise
• Education: Education
• Professional: N, Education N, Workstation N, Education, Workstation, Professional
• Core: N, Core

For license types, it supports OEM Retail, Volume, and UP_Down_Process. Up and Down process refers to upgrades or downgrades that are not officially supported. The tool supports downgrades from Windows 10 Pro to Home and upgrades from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 10 Long Term Servicing Channel.

It is necessary to select an ISO image or the Source folder if the files of the new Windows 10 edition are already on a storage device or on DVD.

Closing Words and Verdict

License Switcher gives system administrators a new tool at hand to switch to a different edition of Windows 10 without reinstallation of software programs and the bulk of changes made to the source operating system edition.

One of its main uses is that it supports upgrades or downgrades that are not supported officially by Microsoft.

What it can’t do is switch between 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows 10; a new installation is required for that.

The author revealed that he plans to introduce support for Server versions in future versions of the application.

Update: the original version is no longer available. A new version (with a new name) is still available, however, and can be downloaded from Google Drive.
