Windows 10 and Protector Suite 2009
OS: Windows 10 Pro
Software: Protector Suite 2009 (UPEK, Inc.)
Recently upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. Protector Suite 2009 worked since Aug 5 the day I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro. Today, I can’t sign in using biometrics. Tried to reload the software but OS would not let me — «need to enable biometric framework». Launched gpedit.msc — Administrative Template — Windows Components — Biometrics and enabled: Allowed the use of Biometric and Allow users to log on using biometrics. Rebooted. Same result . can’t log in using biometrics.
In addition, Uninstall a program would not allow me to change or repair existing Protector Suite. I can’t uninstall it either. What can I do to remedy this issue?

Contacted tech support from manufacturer of my laptop and we went through the process similar to what I had done earlier. The result was the same — can’t remove old Protector Suite 2009 (by UPEK, Inc.), tried loading over it with Protector Suite 2011 (by Authentec) and both received pop up window «need to enable biometric framework». At this point, nothing can be done from my end.
I guess the ball is both in the hands of Windows 10 and Protector Suite.

I have Protector Suite 2012. The manufacturer Authentec as it was last called was taken over by Apple which used its finger print technology in its IPhones. Authentec has been shut down as has its previous help website.
I downloaded windows 10. Protector Suite is incompatible with edge the windows 10 browser. IE 11 is a legacy browser. I rolled back to windows 7.
Expect no help from Microsoft. I am with windows 7 until End of extended support January 14, 2020.

I purchased my laptop along with the biometric technology. Today, Windows 10 Pro simply voided it.
I still can’t get my head around that the biometric logon function worked for two days after I upgraded from
Window 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. On the third day, it stopped working though the Protector Suite logon image
continues to appear at the bottom left of the logon screen. When I click on it in an attempt to logon using my
finger print, I get a message «Cannot locate finger print device» along with «press ESC for the Welcome screen». But when I press ESC, nothing happens. I have to click on my log in image (also located at the bottom left of the screen above the Protector Suite image) to get back the Welcome screen.

Widely used fingerprint reader exposes Windows passwords in seconds
If your laptop uses software from UPEK, it’s exposing your Windows password.
After reading this, I wonder if Apple purchased a defective product. Apple purchased Authentec (makers of Protector Suite 2009, 2011, 2012) for $365M(?) for their iPhones. 😮

I have been having this issue with my workplace computers. But heres the catch.
We have 30 or so Dell Optiplex 760s running Win10Pro. Any computer that had protector suite on it before when it was running Win7Pro I am having the Windows Hello issue with.
Any computer that NEVER had protector suite on it or any other biometric software, and now had Win10Pro, as soon as I plug in the fingerprint reader, Windows Hello comes up.
I tried «resetting» windows10 via the settings, and selecting the remove all files, doing a «fresh» install of 10. This did not work.
Now I am going to start fresh, reformat and put 7Pro back on the drive, update to 10Pro, then plug in the reader and see if that works.
I have no idea why on some client machines it works fine and some it doesnt. Identical hardware and software. Only difference was some used the readers before on 7.
Will post with results.

This solution worked. No idea why. Had to start from scratch on win7 to get it to work.
For others facing the same problem, I don’t think you need to start from scratch. I believe the problem is an outdated UPEK or Authentec driver that migrates to Windows 10. To fix the problem for me, I inserted the fingerprint reader into the USB port and uninstalled Protector Suite. Next, I opened device manager, found «biometric devices», double-clicked on the fingerprint reader and went to the driver tab and uninstalled the driver (choose advanced and make sure to check any boxes to completely remove the driver and any associated files). I didn’t restart, but it wouldn’t hurt to do it I suppose. I then unplugged the fingerprint reader, waited a few seconds, then plugged it back in. Windows 10 found the correct driver automatically (do not use the old Protector Suite 2012 or earlier discs) and Windows Hello works fine after setting up a PIN. Unfortunately, Protector Suite is gone but as it was insecure anyways maybe that’s for the best.
Windows Protection Suite (Описание и удаление)
Windows Protection Suite.
