Cine Tracer v0.63 is live for Windows64 and Mac OS. Please restart Steam to get the update and watch the YouTube tutorial covering what is new.
— New «Canyons Road» map build using the new environment system.
— New preview «Custom Bed» object.
— New couch props.
— Iteration on the Gizmo for moving objects in Editor mode.
Next update will be for the building system and will re introduce Pre Made interior maps as well.
Cine Tracer v0.62 is live on Steam for MacOS and Windows 64. Please restart Steam and or your computer to get the update. Make sure you aren’t on a Beta Branch if you wanted the latest version.
This update brings three new maps that are built with our new environment system. They are much higher quality and should still perform well on modest computer systems.
In Editor Mode [] you will be able to use your Arrow Keys (Up, Down, Left, Right) to move selected objects based on your editor view.
The Gizmos have also been updated (although not the final design) to work by clicking and dragging side to side. This allows for more consistent interactions with less bugs.
In this update the new camera system has been added and there are a new set of cameras. They have a unified UI and control system with «Marks» and they now save with your project. There are still some small bugs that need to be fixed but overall the new camera design is functioning.
— Added Dolly with Circle Track
— Re Designed the Tracked «Virtual» Camera system
The Storyboard system has been updated to work with the new more accurate full screen field of view. However, this means your older storyboards won’t have the correct field of view. Likewise, using the «Legacy» cameras will result in inaccurate storyboard field of view. You can use an older Beta Branch build if you have a project still using the older cameras and storyboard system.
Tutorials on the new camera system and Tracked Camera are on YouTube.

Cine Tracer v0.60 is live on Steam for PC and MacOS. There are 5 new videos on the Cine Tracer YouTube channels explaining the updates.
1. New Maps. I’ve added two new WIP maps to Cine Tracer. They are created in a way that should perform well on modest computer hardware and they work with the new system. I will continue to make new maps for users who are not interested in building set with the building system.
2. New Props. I’ve added some new props.
3. Face Actors. The new Face Actors can have their faces controlled by audio or by using the FaceCap App on an iPhone or iPad Pro. These actors will continue to evolve to support full body motion capture as well.
4. New Cameras. The new Free Camera is the first of the newly updated camera system. It doesn’t currently save or work with the storyboard system yet. The rest of the cameras will be gradually upgraded to this new system.
5. Inertia Wheels can control the new Geared Head camera.
6. VR Mode has been implemented. I have tested the HTC Vive Pro, Vive Pro Eye, and Valve Index. I’ll do my best to support Oculus and Windows Mixed Reality as development continues.
Apple recently made some changes to MacOS that require apps to be «Notarized» and also be 64 bit for Catalina. I’m still currently working on getting it Notarized from Apple, which should fix this issue.
In the mean time, some users report that launching the app DIRECTLY (not from Steam) gets around this issue.
To Launch the Game Directly:
Macintosh HD ▸ Users ▸ ▸ Library ▸ Application Support ▸ Steam ▸ steamapps ▸ common ▸ CineTracer
1. Go to Finder
2. Go to «Go» and hold «Option»
3. Click on «Library»
4. Click on «Application Support»
5. Click on «Steam»
6. Click on «steamapps»
7. Click on «common»
8. Launch CineTracer.app
9. Right Click -> Make Alias for later use
Hopefully when I manage to get the app notarized you will be able to launch the game from Steam again.
*PC users, same as always
Cine Tracer v0.5 is a very big update. Please watch the YouTube video for a very thorough explanation of the development direction and overview of the new workflow. There are also several video explaining how to build with the new system.
Mac OS
If you have Mojave/Catalina, make sure you install the 64bit Steam client. I have update the launch settings so Steam should recognize Cine Tracer a 64 bit app. People were also reporting that launching Cine Tracer directly from the .app was working too.
Windows
If you are on an older system and or want to use Direct 11 for better performance, you can add «-dx11» into the Custom Launch Options in Steam. If you have a modern GPU and want to use Ray Tracing, you will default be using DirectX12. I will work on a simpler way of switching between DirectX version, but currently I’m not sure how to do that.
Old Save Files
Cine Tracer v0.34 will be available as a «Beta Branch» on Steam if you want to open older files or use the older maps that were in that release. You are able to download the latest version any time after but opting out of that beta.
If you have any issues feel free to reach out on Instagram/Twitter/YouTube. I do not have the time currently to properly support the game on Steam or via email etc.

Визуализация видео до съемок. Как в этом помогает Cine Tracer?

Frequently Asked Questions
Want to read more legal about using Cine Tracer?
HOW DO I BUY CINE TRACER?
Download the Steam client from SteamPowered.com and search for Cine Tracer and follow instructions to purchase and install the game.
DO I GET THE FULL VERSION, IF I BUY THE EARLY RELEASE ON STEAM?
Yes. If you buy the Early Release on SteamPowered.com you will get all of the updates leading up to the full release and the full release.
WHAT IS EARLY RELEASE?
Early Release is a Steam concept. It means that the game isn’t in a “finished” or “final release” state.
expect bugs and possible crashes.
expect each update to change the game radically.
save files may not be compatible after updates, however we work to not have this happen.
we may add and remove features and content as needed.
technically we are not required to “finish” or even “update” the game further.*
*we cannot legally guarantee updates. However, please follow us on social media to track the frequency of our updates 🙂
DO I GET THE PC AND MACOS VERSION?
Yes. Buying a license of the game on SteamPowered.com will allow you access to both the PC and MacOS version of the game.
IS THE iOS/ANDROID version included?
No. If we make a «mobile” version or sister app, that may require a separate purchase. We do not currently have one, so the rules are not set yet.
CAN I INSTALL ON MULTIPLE COMPUTERS?
Yes. This is controlled by Valve/Steam. You can install Steam on as many computers as you want and install Cine Tracer. Please consult Valve/Steam policy, Cinematography Database (developer) do not control this.
REFUND POLICY?
If you play the game less than 2 hours, you can “Refund” it on SteamPowered.com Please, read the official Steam/Valve policy, we do not control that process nor can we manually refund.
IS THERE A FREE DEMO?
No. But you can refund, if you don’t like it, see above.
HOW DO I REPORT BUGS/REQUEST FEATURES?
We read all of our social media accounts and those are good places to put them. We do not currently have an official feedback online forum and we cannot currently guarantee one on one technical support.
ARE YOU HIRING FOR X POSITION?
We are looking to grow the Cine Tracer development team in the future, but we do not currently have any open positions. This includes internships.
WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR USING CINE TRACER?
You can read the EULA to understand the licensing agreement to use Cine Tracer.
IS CINE TRACER A GAME?
Technically, yes. Is there a typical “game mode” with quests, achievements, etc.? No there is not. Cine Tracer is more similar to “creative modes” found in games like Minecraft and Fortnite.
iS THE LIGHTING ACCURATE?
No. Cine Tracer lighting “represents” real world lighting. It does not currently apply the real world photometrics to the camera exposure or lights output.
WILL CINE TRACER PHOTOMETRIC HAPPEN?
We are working on making the lighting and exposure more accurately tied to the real world. RTX lighting technology may help this effort. This may never happen, but it might.
CAN I IMPORT CUSTOM 3D MODELS?
No. Not yet. Nor can you “MOD” the game at this point. We are looking into solutions to make importing custom assets into the game possible. This may never happen, but it might.
CAN YOU RECORD VIDEO IN GAME?
No. We recommend using OBS or any software (it’s built into many Operating Systems) that allows you to record the screen.
WILL YOU ADD IN GAME VIDEO RECORDING?
We are looking into solutions to enable this, but third party screen recording software is so good and efficient we are not making it a high priority. This may never happen, but it might.
WILL YOU ADD X to THE GAME?
We are adding assets to the game in almost every patch and update. If enough people comment on social media requesting on asset, that is more likely to get added.
CAN I REQUEST SOMETHING BE ADDED?
Yes, request away on social meida. We will see it. This may never happen, but it might.
WILL YOU IMPLEMENT RTX?
We currently plan on implementing RTX lighting now that Unreal Engine 4.22 officially supports it. We will be testing it over the next few months and report on if we will fold it into the main branch or not. So, this may never happen, but it might.

The World’s First Cinematography Video Game — Cine Tracer
Share this:
Imagine a world where storyboarding and lighting your scenes was as easy and fun as a video game. Well, thanks to Cine Tracer, that world exists.
It’s the number one key to getting results like the folks on big-budget sets with tons of resources. The number one resource they have that you don’t is time. Most highly budgeted projects allow ample time for pre-planning and pre-visualization — and the execution of the plan itself.
Previz (or pre-visualization) has always been a big-budget Hollywood tool, and it has largely only been available to studio productions. Up until now.
With Cine Tracer — a relatively new offering from Matt Workman at Cinematography Database — you can build, pre-light, pre-frame, and pre-block your scenes — and capture them in nice-looking storyboard images. And you can do all of this in a video game framework. This means one thing for sure — it’s a heck of a lot of fun.
When I started this video I didn’t intend it as a full-on review. The game is still in early release, and as such, the developers are pushing constant changes to the software, and the product has changed a great deal since it first launched. These are my first impressions and thoughts on a product that is already extremely solid, with amazing potential, and plenty of room to grow.
To my knowledge, Workman is working on this one pretty much solo. So as you can imagine, he’s doing the best he can — and he’s done a phenomenal job. This is much more than just a video game. Even in its current form, it’s a professional filmmaking tool. (I’m pretty obsessed with it right now.)
The Interface / Controls
Much to my amusement, the player can navigate the sets and maps with a jetpack. At first, this just seems like a fun nod to the player, but as you spend time with the program, you start to realize how beneficial it is. Using a physical person as a sprite, you can get a sense of scale — and what it might be like to actually move about these sets. (A “God mode” cam is also available if you’d prefer to play without the sprite.)
The control system is really intuitive (especially if you’ve ever played any top-down-style computer games), and before too long, with a little bit of practice, you can build any look you want.
There’s a really intuitive system for adding cameras, lights, props, furniture, and actors. It’s all in one menu, and it’s very responsive. Workman starts the game off with what I’d consider the perfect lighting kit — you’ve got lekos; Aputure 120Ds; quasars; and big, soft diffusion frames. I’m sure we’ll see plenty more fixtures soon, but this is enough to get started.
I’d say the most impressive part of the game is how easy it is to use the control system. This game is as fun as Sims or RollerCoaster Tycoon, but for filmmakers. I’m not even joking.
The Building System
The building system for this product is truly genius. It’s like playing Minecraft or Fortnite, but you can build real environments, extremely quickly. I can’t wait to see how much more robust this system may become. It’s as easy as clicking icons to create walls and doors and windows (whatever you need). It becomes a secondhand language extremely quickly. This is perhaps my favorite feature.
This is a virtual version that I created of our office here, on the first day I started using the software. The system is that easy. Before long, I suspect I’ll be able to go on a location scout, snap a few pics, and build a virtual version of whatever scene I want to shoot there.
Storyboarding
Once you have your virtual camera set up and framed the way you’d like, you can capture the frame just by hitting the ENTER key. This will create a .png image file in your project folder.
This would be really helpful for creating storyboards and compiling them in a program like Photoshop or InDesign.
There is also an in-game storyboard feature that stores all of your frames and images. It will save the focal length, and you can name the shots or add any comments you might want.
I’m wondering if, in the future, there will be some way to export — or save — an image of this portion of the interface, to save the extra step of going into a different application to put the storyboards together . . .
Image: My attempt to re-create an iconic frame from No Country For Old Men.
Cine Tracer is already a home run, as far as I’m concerned, but I can definitely see potential for further improvements. I can’t wait to see where Workman takes the software in the future — I’ll be following along, every step of the way.
