As the comment in the PKGBUILD says (you’ve read it, right? 😉 ), Cisco does not provide public downloads for this, so you have to obtain the installer yourself either through your own Cisco account or through your company’s.

Thanks for your work! Is there any way to get an older version of this package, namely for Cisco installer version 4.7.00136? My university is still using and offering only this old version.

Simply build and install the package. The unit file will be installed to the correct location.
paecific.jr commented on 2020-08-20 15:27
Okay, what is the correct install process then? Would you be able to provide a readme?
K900 commented on 2020-08-20 15:24
No, you absolutely should not do that.
paecific.jr commented on 2020-08-20 15:23
Sorry, I was able to determine my issue with that. I needed to copy the vpnagentd.service to /etc/systemd/system/
This may be out of your scope, but my school’s version of AnyConnect takes me to Okta, a SSO provider. After I enter my credentials AnyConnect continues to say, «Please complete the authentication process in the AnyConnect Login. «. Then it refuses a connection.
K900 commented on 2020-08-20 15:13
You need to be more specific than that.

Here’s my patch for 4.10.01075. I’ve only tested it with the tarball, I assume it would work with the rest if you update the hash.
K900 commented on 2021-04-23 21:14
You also need to update the hashes to match. Run makepkg -g to get the correct hash. Also, literally of this is described on the wiki.

Technical commented on 2021-04-23 21:04
I’ve cloned the repository, put the .sh file in the same folder of PKGBUILD and run makepkg. It still tries to download the script:
curl: (3) URL using bad/illegal format or missing URL ==> ERROR: Fail to download file://anyconnect-linux64-4.9.05042-core-vpn-webdeploy-k9.sh Aborting.
K900 commented on 2021-04-23 20:57
Stop trying to make this work with an AUR helper you don’t fully understand. Just clone the repository, put the installer file next to the PKGBUILD and run makepkg .
Technical commented on 2021-04-23 20:56
Thank you K900. Please, bear with me. If tried to copy the .sh file I’ve downloaded from my account and copy to what it should be the $scrdir of AUR compilations /var/tmp and tested any other subdirectory on this route /pamac-build-technical/cisco-anyconnect/src
I’ve tested both the full file name and renaming it to just anyconnect.sh. For sure I’m doing something silly and wrong. Can you help me?
K900 commented on 2021-04-23 19:33
You’re not supposed to be able to download the files through the PKGBUILD, as they’re not legally redistributable. You need to bring your own installer.
When you have the script, you’re not supposed to run the script — put it in your $srcdir and build the package normally.
Also, if you were to actually build the package, you’d see that there are optional dependencies on gtk2 and glib2, marked as «required by vpnui».

For 4.8.01090 (installer, don’t have access to tarball), apart from updating pkgver and _filehash , just need to rename the manifesttool binary in package() to manifesttool_vpn .
MysticFragilist commented on 2019-09-19 13:49
With the version of anyconnect 4.6.03049, the download crash with the same error as stated by v0ido9. Probably the older version doesn’t use libboost_chrono.so as the newer does. I removed the library from the dependency in PKGBUILD and was able to build it without error. When I launch anyconnect, it freezes for 30 sec and kill its own process. At this point, I double check each md5sum to see if they were different (even libboost_chrono.so). I even try downloading libboost_chrono.so by its own package in boost_libs and manually placing it in the dependency folder without success. I believe this package won’t be able to support lower version of anyconnect as there is too much change across those two major version. I’m not sure how it can be handle in the AUR though. if you find anything to make it work, please let me know!
K900 commented on 2019-09-11 03:42
They should be included in the package. What package are you trying to install from? Do the hashes match?
v0ido9 commented on 2019-09-11 02:11
Where shall I get these libraries?
mhammond9 commented on 2019-07-27 03:47
No, thank you. You’re the reason that there’s tarball AUR support at all!
As an addition to K900’s post regarding installation and setup, I’ve written the following guide for how to install and set up the tarball on Arch distributions.
Please refer to the guide first if you have a question about how to set up the tarball using this AUR package. It might be a question that’s already answered in the guide!
K900 commented on 2019-07-26 11:51
I’ve updated the PKGBUILD to support building from both the tarball and the executable installed — just change the _source variable at the top (it’s going to default to «installer» at least for now, for compatibility reasons) and make sure the file exists in the working directory and is named correctly.
Big thanks to mhammond9 for the help, and to an anonymous student in Iran who uploaded the tarball to their university FTP server 😉
mhammond9 commented on 2019-07-22 05:19
That’s exactly what it was! Thank you! I’ll update the AUR repository and test on a different OS.
Edit: meant to remove parts of an earlier post I made to not confuse new users, ended up accidentally deleting it. The !strip option K900 is referring to is answering a question regarding my now outdated cisco-anyconnect-tarball package.
K900 commented on 2019-07-22 05:01
Seems like you’re missing the «!strip» option. You need to have it set, stripping debug symbols from the vpnagentd binary makes it explode.
K900 commented on 2019-07-17 04:16
It should be on the download page you get when navigating to your VPN server’s URL and logging in. Skip the Java automagic installer thingy if you have Java installed for some reason.
askthedumbdumb commented on 2019-07-17 04:13
Where is this .sh even at? I have several of the Linux Tarballs from Cisco and none of the folders contain a «webdeploy-k9.sh» What am I missing?

@K900, @DrTph It seems that libacwebhelper.so is missing from PKGBUILD plugins list. Acwebhelper started working fine for me after I added the missing plugin to PKGBUILD and rebuilt the package:
Alternatively, you can manually copy libacwebhelper.so from anyconnect-linux64-4.8.03052/vpn to /opt/cisco/anyconnect/bin/plugins directory and set permissions to root:root 755.
bennyboybrownlee commented on 2020-06-04 18:58
I see to have an issue (operation timeout) when trying to install required updates for DART. I was able to get this far by copying my settings/profile XML files from my Ubuntu install as suggested by @K900. Anyone else having these issues and know a way around them?
DrTph commented on 2020-05-15 18:20
Thanks for the addition! I’m still having issues, but this feels like progress.
I do have webkit2gtk installed:
But I do not see similar log messages on my system. And coredumpctl list shows nothing related to AnyConnect. And their workaround, which I’m taking as WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 vpnui is not doing anything for me.
acwebhelper is perfectly undocumented and opaque. No help messages and no source code online according to Google. With various command-line arguments I cannot get anything interesting to happen beyond a couple different-but-equally-unhelpful journal messages. So far my best attempt has been strings /opt/cisco/anyconnect/*/* | grep -C2 acwebhelper — still no luck. I guess I can try watching the process table. But even if I can invoke acwebhelper standalone, I’m skeptical I’ll get any fresh insight.
K900 commented on 2020-05-13 17:46
What happens if you just launch acwebhelper separately?
Edit: sounds like you’re missing webkit2gtk. Added it as an optdepend in the latest version.
DrTph commented on 2020-05-13 17:27
It seems my acwebhelper is not working. Any suggestions? I have all dependencies installed including glib2, gtk2, and gtk3. Are the AUR packages in parenthesis also required? Please forgive my ignorance. Same issue in both Wayland and xorg.
My corp IT provided anyconnect-linux64-4.8.03052-predeploy-k9.tar.gz, which is a small version bump from 4.8.03043. I don’t know if this is related or not, but that’s what I’m using since that’s all I have.
vpnui shows: Please complete the authentication process in the AnyConnect Login window. No other windows show. I’m not sure how I should go about diagnosing acwebhelper, assuming that’s the culprit.
Yatha commented on 2020-04-26 23:34
@K900 I sent my local policy to your email but I think that problem can be in downloading profile policy. When I set BypassDownloader to false in your policy I receive message that download 100% but error occured.
K900 commented on 2020-04-26 22:12
Can you post the .xml file that worked for you? Or maybe email it to me? I’d like to investigate what configuration changes got made.
Yatha commented on 2020-04-26 21:53
I was able to use this package only as a template. I recently started using Manjaro instead Ubuntu-based. I have 4.7 version from my company that worked in Ubuntu.
For working this package:
1a. replace in PKGBUILD cisco-4.8.sh with cisco-4.7.sh
1b. replace in PKGBUILD _filehash with sha256sums cisco-4.7.sh
1c. replace in PKGBUILD manifesttool_vpn with manifesttool
But it’s still not worked. I tried to change BypassDownloader to false in /opt/cisco/anyconnect/AnyConnectLocalPolicy.xml but only error was occured.
It started to work only after
I copied /opt/cisco/anyconnect/AnyConnectLocalPolicy.xml (and /opt/cisco/anyconnect/profile/*.xml) from my Ubuntu-based system.
Conclusion: You may need Ubuntu or RedHat live cd to install this package 🙂
