Cisco anyconnect there problem windows installer package

Cisco AnyConnect – Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.

KB ID 0000985В

Problem

Error 1722 is a pretty ‘generic’ windows installer package error. When attempting to install the AnyConnect client software this happened;

Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action VACon_Install, location: C:Program FilesCiscoCisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility ClientVACon.exe, command: -install “C:Program FilesCiscoCisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Clientvpnva.inf” VPNVA

On closer inspection of the log file at C:Windowsinfsetupapi.dev.log yielded the following;

Class installer: failed(0xe000020b)!

Solution

This is usually caused by either a corrupt network connection entry, or too many interfaces entries in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlNetwork registry key.

Thankfully Microsoft have identified this as a problem and have a tool for fixing it, download the ifcleanup tool. (There is an x86 and an x64 bit version in that zip file run the one appropriate for the affected system).

Open a command window (run as administrator) and run the ifcleanup executable.

2. Then retry to install the AnyConnect client.

Problems with installing the Cisco Anyconnect Client version 4.1.04011-web-deploy-k9 on Windows 10

I am having problems with installing the Cisco Anyconnect Client version 4.1.04011-web-deploy-k9 on Windows 10.

Before upgrading to Windows 10 I uninstalled (add / remove programs) the old client.

After upgrade to Windows 10 I want to install the supported version of Anyconnect but this failed. I receive the error:

«The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.»

«Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package «Winsetup-Release-web-deploy.mis» in the box below.»

I am running the installation as Administrator, the installation file is on my local C: drive.

I guess that the removal of the old version was incomplete and that the new installation is trying to remove files and/or registry settings but is missing an uninstallation file.

Event 11714: The older version of Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client cannot be removed.

On the internet I found related topics with the solution to use the Microsoft fix tool. This tool isn’t available for Windows 10.

Is there a new fix tool for this or is there an instruction to manual remove all old files and registry settings?

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

If you become disconnected from your installation point or network resource, reconnect and try to install the client again.

In this case, I would suggest you to disable (preferably uninstall) any security software installed in the system and then try installing the security software in compatibility mode.

  • Right click on the driver, and click on Properties .
  • Go to the Compatibility tab.
  • Check the box for Run this program in compatibility mode for:
  • Select Windows 8 in the list of Operating systems.
  • Click OK .
  • Double-click the driver file to install the driver and follow the onscreen instructions.
  • Reboot your computer.

I tried but the purposed solution did work. I ran the installation file in compatibility mode for previous windows version and still got the error message.

«The older version of Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client cannot be removed.»

In search for the solution for my problem I tried to install the client from the command prompt with elevated rights from c:\temp where I located the .msi installation file:

msiexec /fv anyconnect-win-4.1.04011-pre-deploy-k9.msi /lvx «c:\Temp\ac-Uninstall.log.txt”

Again the installations failed. This time with te message: The file «ManifestTool.exe» is not marked for installation.

Only option I had was to click on «Ok».

This time the log «c:\Temp\ac-Uninstall.log.txt” was created. In this log I found this line:

MSI (s) (E8:40) [07:42:34:275]: Product: Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client — Error 2753. The File ‘ManifestTool.exe’ is not marked for installation.

I searched on the internet for «error 2753» AND «is not marked for installation». I found this site that directed me to the solution:

In the registry I found the key that was causing the installation failure. I deleted the key in the following steps and after that I succesfully installed the new client.

To edit the registry, do the following:

1.Click Start and type regedit in the box.

2.A dialogue box will pop up with the following text: Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer? Click Yes.

3.Browse to the following location: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\

4.Within the Products folder, locate and delete the registry key which contains product information for Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

◦Each registry key within Products is an alphanumeric string. Select the first key and look on the right side for ProductName REG_SZ Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. Go through each key in the Products folder until you find the one for Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

◦In my (this) case: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\E8CB28D0EF413434EBCBFF65361793A3]

◦Your version of Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client might have a different name for this registry key.

◦I recommend making a backup of this registry key before deleting it.

5.Close the registry editor.

After this start the installation of the new Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

Christopher and Pete from Cisco support: thanks for your help in solving this problem and pointing me in the right direction!

Yesterday Windows 10 1607 and Cisco VPN 4.5.01044. Re-install was successfull.

Today same machine with Windows 10 1703 and Cisco VPN 4.5.01044: Re-installation fails. Installation hangs on error:

Product: Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client — Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action VACon64_ndis6_Install, location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client\VACon64.exe, command: -install «C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client\\vpnva-6.inf» VPNVA

And no, nothing suggested on the Cisco forum helps. Cisco supports says that on 1607 some cumulative update has helped on this issue and that seems to be true. So they will not do anything because it is MS issue.

Does not seem to work or I don’t know how to use this software. If there is no Cisco installed on machine how can I tell that wizard that this is the program which does not install.

Ran it anyway both uninstall and install and no help, it gets stuck installing Anyconnect service.

Cisco AnyConnect Fails To Install Or Upgrade In Windows 10 Anniversary Update

If you’ve upgraded to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update and use the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client, you may run into a problem during the installation or upgrade where you get the error message “There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.” After that error, the installer rolls back any changes that were made to your system.

The issue is related to the file permissions on this folder: C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositoryvpnva-6.inf_amd64_f4ee011be27e2804

Resolution

1 – Browse to the C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository folder and right click on the vpnva-6.inf_amd64_f4ee011be27e2804 folder and select Properties.
2- Click on the Security tab then the Advanced button.
3 – The current Owner is probably set to SYSTEM. Click on the Change button and enter your account name and click OK.
4 – Check the box that says “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects” then click OK.
5 – Click Edit from the Security tab then Add and enter your account name and click OK.
6 – Check the Full Control box under the permissions for your account, then click OK and Yes.

Now you’ll want to use a tool like FileASSASSIN to delete locked files. You can download and install it from here: https://www.malwarebytes.com/fileassassin/

7 – In FileASSASSIN, browse to the C:WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepositoryvpnva-6.inf_amd64_f4ee011be27e2804 folder again.
8 – Select each file and check the Delete option, then click Execute for each file. Once all files are removed, you can delete the folder.

IF THE ABOVE FILEASSASSIN FAILS:
9 – Right click on each file, and select properties and the security tab.
10 – Click on the Advanced button.
11 – Click Change next to Owner and enter your account name, then click on OK twice.
12 – Right click on the same file, then select Properties and the security tab.
13 – Click on the Edit button, then Add.
14 – Enter your account name and check the Full Control box. Click OK then Yes then OK again.
15 – Delete the file and repeat for each file in the folder.
16 – After all files are removed, delete the folder.
If the folder won’t delete, right click and go to Properties, Security, and Edit the permissions for the Everybody group and give it Full Control.

Now try your installer again and it should work.
