Release 20210321 and a new website
Today is the day that many have been waiting for: the new stable OpenRA Release 20210321 is now available!
We had originally planned to announce this release with a new patch spotlight video, but an unfortunately timed computer failure has left FiveAces’ battlefield control offline until repairs are completed. Rather than continue to delay the release, we have commissioned our best artist to make the placeholder image below, and will post the real spotlight once it is available.
The 20210321 release spotlight has been temporarily delayed. Stay tuned for updates!
Many of the biggest changes in this release were focused around the in-development Tiberian Sun mod, which continues to make slow progress in our development repository. There are many great changes for Red Alert, Tiberian Dawn, and Dune 2000 too, focusing mainly around streamlining some awkward gameplay mechanics, improving community integration, and improving our singleplayer content:
- Support for Discord integration and community-run ladders
- New lobby features for player handicaps and disabling spawn points
- Community balance updates and a refreshed map selection for Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn
- Further adjustments to make Dune 2000 more faithful to the original game
- More fluid infantry combat after fixing several long-standing combat bugs
- Nine more campaign missions have been ported for Red Alert
- Improved AI behaviour and performance
These features and more will be explained in more detail in the upcoming release spotlight, but for now you can look back over the previous news posts [1, 2, 3] or the full changelog for more information.
An important compatibility note is that OpenRA now requires GPU support for either OpenGL 3.2, DirectX 11, or OpenGL ES 3. Moving away from the legacy OpenGL 2.1 is important for future compatibility with modern rendering APIs (Vulkan/Metal) and for improving rendering performance with Tiberian Sun and the C&C Remastered Collection. This does unfortunately mean dropping support for some older systems (typically 10+ years old) that currently can run OpenRA, but we believe that this is a necessary tradeoff for the future.
The new OpenRA website brings a new look and improved functionality.
We are also today deploying a brand new website design. Lead by @Fauntleroy with feedback from our GitHub and Discord communities, the fresh look also brings some important technology upgrades that improve the website behaviour on mobile devices, and adds new features for the live games list. We expect to continue improving and iterating on the new site, so let us know if you think that something important is missing or simply doesn’t look right.
Let us know what you think of the new release and updated website in the comments below, on our forum, community discord, or GitHub. We hope you’ll enjoy these new updates! Have fun!

Description
English :
The year is 2047 when an enormous nuclear explosion marks the beginning of the third Tiberium war. The Earth has been separated into zones based on the level of the Tiberium infestation, and the majority of Earth’s population lives in war-torn, ecologically devastated regions known as yellow zones. Much of the planet is completely uninhabitable, and only a small portion of the Earth’s surface has been left in decent enough shape to be the last refuge of the civilized world. Unfortunately, the infamous Kane has once again returned to lead the Brotherhood of Nod in an epic invasion against the Global Defense Initiative.

Hi, I’m trying to install CNC3 and used the install procedure on PlayOnLinux, through DVD. I tried to play it using wine 1.5.16 (when using the default version of the installer it just hangs hup after the splashscreen with nothing other). But when I launch the game I get the splashscreen, the resolution that downgrades (I know that, that’s normal and due to the default configuration of the game), the green-game-specific-arrow cursor, and sometimes a black screen, but nothing else.
The first time I also noticed at the center of the screen the cursor was changing to the “input text here” one, as it is supposed to do at the first start of the game to ask the name of the first profile. So I typed “test”, enter, and never saw it again.
So I remember long ago to had this problem under Windows Vista long time ago, but I forgot what workarround I found at the time… and testing the game on other computers with Windows it seems it shouldn’t happen… So how can I try/begin to debug that problem? Had someone already encountered this problem (I already searched to solve this problem some time ago and recall to have searched that but found nothing useful)
PS: attaching processes like CNC3.exe or cnc3game.dat to strace make them exit mysteriously, while normally I have to wait a while before they exit.
PPS: for a machine with no DVD lector, is it acceptable to use a no-CD crack if making a pseudo-DVD-device with winecfg and linking it to a directory containing the same content as the DVD doesn’t work (while having a valid key and bought the material game)? I mean can a such situation also be legitimate to ask help here according ToS (I heard when you bought the game it is legal to do so)?

C&C: Tiberian Sun is a real-time strategy game.
C&C Tiberian Sun video game developed by Westwood Studios and released in 1999. The main storyline follows the second major war between the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) of the United Nations, and the global terrorist organization known as the Brotherhood of Nod. The story takes place 30 years after the GDI had won the First Tiberium War in Command & Conquer.
The gameplay has similar principles to Tiberian Dawn but with newer and upgraded units and structures plus three new types of tiberium that can be harvested. Tiberian Sun relies heavily on science fiction technologies, and introduces a new isometric game engine featuring varying level terrain to give the impression of a true 3D environment. Dynamic lighting allows for day/night cycles and special effects, such as ion storms. Maps feature cityscapes where units could hide or battle in urban combat. Some buildings and armored units are rendered with voxels, although infantry is still rendered as sprites.
During the campaign, different routes can be chosen, some of which can lead to optional missions that may affect the difficulty of the main mission, or supply the player with additional units and technologies. Tiberian Sun is the last game of the series to offer the split-route feature.
