I’ve recently been trying to update my HP Envy ’23 computer with the update in the title, however, it constantly gives me the 0x80073712 error code. I’ve tried using the windows update troubleshooter, DISM, and even manually restarting the update services, but to no avail. Is anyone able to help me fix this?

The known issue for March 13, 2018—KB4088776 (OS Build 16299.309) is that even though the update was successfully installed, Windows Update incorrectly reports that the update failed to install. Select Check for Updates to confirm that there are no additional updates available.
You can also type About your PC in the search box on the taskbar to confirm that your device is using the expected OS build.
Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

i’ve been experiencing the same error — i have tried running the troubleshoot thingy a couple of times already unfortunately i can’t still install it.
I also have the same problem. Tried several times today no success. It did come up and say Microsoft Defender Anti Virus update KB 2267602 was awaiting installation, but on checking I found I was up to date.
In checking my installation history I found that cumulative updates for Windows 10 for 64 bit over the past 4-5 months had not been installed due to errors. In addition, Microsoft Edge stopped functioning..
Where do we go from here. Perhaps its time to let Microsoft take over the PC’s remotely and solve the problem

Broken Windows Update components can be one of the factors why this issue occurs. To better facilitate your concern, I’d like to verify the following:
- Are you getting the same error as JasonWang64? If not, may a know the error message or error code that you’re getting.
- Have you tried following the troubleshooting steps provided on the link in Lawrence Lib post? If so, can you give me an eye-view of the results?
- What is the KB number of the update that you’re trying to install?
As an initial troubleshooting steps, I’d recommend turning on the Windows Update services via Command Prompt (Admin). Here’s how:
- In the Search box, type cmd, right-click the result and select Run as administrator.
- Once Command Prompt starts, copy and paste the following commands and press Enter after each line in order to run it:
SC config wuauserv start= auto
SC config bits start= auto
SC config cryptsvc start= auto
SC config trustedinstaller start= auto

I ran into the same issue. You can manually download KB5001649 and install it. That is what worked for me.
Here is a link to the Official Microsoft Update Catalog to download KB5001649:
Be sure to download and install the correct 2021-03 Cumulative Update for the version of Windows that you are running and your system type. To find out what version of Windows you are running and your system type, open Settings, select System, and then About. Under About, you will find a section titled Device specifications and Windows specifications. Look for the System type under the Device specifications and the Edition and Version under Windows specifications. For example, I am running Windows 10 Pro Version 20H2 on an x64-based processor, so I downloaded and installed «2021-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5001649)».
Hope this helps!

Steps I have already taken to resolve the issue:
Windows Update Troubleshooter: Did not find any issues;
sfc/scannow: Windows Resource Protection: Did not find any integrity violations.
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth: The restore operation completed successfully.
‘In-place’ re-installation using Image Creation Tool or ISO file: Does not support Windows Enterprise.
Re-installation using standalone Windows Installer MSU file (downloaded from Windows Update Catalogue): Installation failed.
deleted all files from C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download: It did not help.
cleaned C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\SLS (deleted all sub-folders except those dated 14th March = last successful Windows update): It did not help.
The laptop in part of a domain and I consider Resetting PC as the last resort.
