amBX 1.10, 1.4.4 & 2.0.0 Drivers

amBX was a technology that really never caught on, yet I’ve been a fan since getting one of Philip’s premium kits years ago for $50 (so much so that I bought three more to give as gifts…it was a steal at that price). Getting it to work with Windows 7 64-Bit was a bit of a pain, and the process has only become more of a pain with Windows 10 (and requires installing it as “Legacy Hardware”), but it is possible to get it up and running if you can find a set (just see this Reddit post). The problem is, finding a lot of the driver packages these days has become harder and harder, and at least one of them is no longer available directly from Philips.

My PC’s SSD recently failed, so getting everything back up and running was a bit of a chore, but easy enough. That is, easy enough until it game to getting the amBX back up and running. It’s always been a trial-and-error affair getting it working, but this time, I was just about unable to find the drivers for it. That’s when I started to think about all of the random hardware peripherals that I’ve had to make some sense of over the years that have basically become worthless over time because of hardware drivers that have been lost to the wax and wane of the internet. I don’t want that to happen to the amBX and it does still work with Windows 10, so here are the driver sets that I was able to get my kit up and running with. Hopefully they’ll be useful.

Is there any chance you got a small guide available, or could explain how you managed to get it to work? If i even want the speakers to work i need to pull the USB and put it back in every single time since some update for windows and i haven’t been able to fix it since.

I might be able to do something…I just got them working on a new PC and so far so good. At first it kept doing this odd USB recognition loop and I basically thought they were done, but simply changing the USB cable fixed the problem. As soon as I get a chance, I’ll get a test system and document it.
