Usually we release a new Minor Community Edition version once per two weeks. Major version is released quarterly (every 3 months). Information about previous releases you can find here.

Tested and verified for MS Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

Install:

Windows installer – run installer executable. It will automatically upgrade version (if needed).
MacOS DMG – just run it and drag-n-drop DBeaver into Applications.
Debian package – run sudo dpkg -i dbeaver- .deb . Then execute “dbeaver &”.
RPM package – run sudo rpm -ivh dbeaver- .rpm . Then execute “dbeaver &”. Note: to upgrade use “-Uvh” parameter.
ZIP archive – extract archive and run “ dbeaver ” executable. Do not extract archive over previous version (remove previous version before install).

Upgrade – don’t be afraid to remove previous DBeaver version – your settings won’t be lost. All settings are kept in the separate folder (DBeaverData in user home)

Java notes:
DBeaver requires Java 11 or higher. Since version 7.3.1 all distributions include OpenJDK 11 bundle.
If you want to use you own locally installed Java you may delete folder “jre” in the DBeaver installation folder.

Ubuntu PPA:
You can use PPA repository to easily install/upgrade DBeaver on Debian Linuxes. Mostly it is the same as regular Debian repo but it is hosted on Launchpad.

Early Access:

You may get latest build (EA version) of DBeaver. Usually it contains all major bug fixes found in current stable version. Just choose the archive corresponding to your OS and hardware from the following folder: EA version downloads.

Written in Java, DBeaver is a database manager that provides support for working with some of the most popular database servers out there, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Oracle, SQLite, Sybase, and so on.

Connect to database servers and start browsing their contents

DBeaver comes with a connection manager that features wizards for numerous connection types. To find a specific wizard faster, just use the built-in search tool. Each new connection will be displayed in the DBeaver main window, and you can easily browse its content.

Within the DBeaver window, you get to see the database structure, such as tables, columns, procedures, triggers, users, and so on. You can open any of the included objects in the editor with a simple double click.

Note the DBeaver can also be used to edit metadata entities, but it greatly depends on the database type. For your convenience, DBeaver also integrates a search tool that can query the metadata content or scan the full text.

Execute queries by using the built-in SQL editor

DBeaver offers you the possibility to open an SQL editor for any of the database connections. The application allows you to import or export SQL scripts and permits you to keep them organized into folders.

This way you get to execute SQL scripts and run queries without leaving the DBeaver application. DBeaver provides support for viewing and editing the content, helps you filter and order the data, can export results, and is able to generate SQL statements.

DBeaver is a free development program that allows you to easily work with databases. Originally written by Serge Rider and now actively developed by the DBeaver Community, this open-source software is a universal and multi-platform database administration tool that supports all popular databases. There’s also a closed-source enterprise edition of this available, distributed under a commercial license.

Is DBeaver an IDE?

DBeaver is a SQL client software app written in Java and based on the Eclipse platform, able to modify and manage more than 80 databases. It is a handy and versatile IDE that is based on the Java JDBC—thus, it supports any database that has a JDBC driver. If the database doesn’t have that, it uses proprietary database drivers instead to be able to handle them.

Some of the databases this tool can support are MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Oracle, DB2, and SQL Server, to name a few. It provides a plugin architecture for easily editing the behavior of database-specific features, as well as different types of data editors. You can even write various extensions thanks to its open-source framework. Additionally, the software lets you pretty much manipulate your data like how you would with a regular spreadsheet program.

This tool has an intuitive and user-friendly interface to help boost productivity. However, it can still look overwhelming to new users so there’s always the online documentation for it to help you out, if you need it. Perhaps the only downside to this software is that it can be slow to load at times and you may have to relaunch it whenever it freezes when it was supposed to refresh automatically.

Great for anyone

All in all, DBeaver is a highly recommended tool for developers, database administrators, analysts, and the like. It has an easy-to-use interface design that requires no steep learning curve and various handy features for simple programming on most of the popular databases around. It can have some loading hiccups at times, but thanks to its supportive community, there’s not a lot of issues with this program.

Install DBeaver on a Mac

How to install DBeaver on a Mac so you can manage SQL Server and other database management systems.

DBeaver is a database management tool with a graphical interface similar to SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). However, SSMS is only available on Windows machines, so if you run Mac or Linux, you need to look for alternatives.

Fortunately, DBeaver steps up as a popular (and free) alternative.

Here are instructions for installing DBeaver on a Mac.

Download DBeaver

Go to the DBeaver download page, and click the pkg installer + JRE option.

The pkg installer + JRE option includes JRE as part of the installation process (which is accessible only for DBeaver).

Feel free to choose another option if you prefer, but just be aware that you’ll need to have Java 1.8 installed first.

Launch the Installer

Double-click the installer icon to launch the installation wizard.

Start the Installation Process

Accept the License Agreement

Click Continue to accept the license agreement (assuming you accept it).

Click Agree on the pop up box.

Select the Install Location

Click Install to install DBeaver in the default location. Otherwise click Change Install Location and choose another location.

Enter Password

If prompted for a password, enter it and click Install Software .

Installation Successful

Once DBeaver has been installed, a message is displayed stating that the installation was successful. Click Close to close the installer.

Remove the Installer File

If a prompt appears asking if you want to move the installer file to the Trash, click Move to Trash (unless you have reason to keep it).

DBeaver is now installed. Now you can launch it and connect to your database.
