Dead space для linux

I’ve put together a Wine wrapper for Dead Space, allowing it to be played on Linux almost like a native game & with no Wine knowledge required.

Simply run the build script to create the wrapper. If the installer files are not alongside the wrapper build files then the path to them will need to be specified either by passing it as an argument to the build script with -respath=»

» or by setting an environment variable named WINEWRAP_RESPATH containing it. You can change the path to build the wrapper in and the name of the wrapper directory with the -buildpath= and -dirname= arguments. The build path can also be set with the WINEWRAP_BUILDPATH environment variable.

The output will be a directory containing the game set up within a preconfigured Wine prefix, along with its own copy of Wine, extracted game icons, documentation, and start script(s). From there simply run the start script to play. The start script also includes options for creating a shortcut, configuring the wrapper etc.

(to uninstall simply delete the game directory and any shortcuts you created, and the game’s user data directory in

/.local/share if you don’t want to keep your saves & settings)

User data is stored under

Full details are in the readme.txt and release notes. Here is the download link:

The wrapper uses Wine 6.0 and Methanhydrat’s mouse fix. Wine and Winetricks will be downloaded automatically if not present; to avoid redownloading for other scripts the downloaded Wine package will be stored in

Dead space для linux

There is a utility called game-data-packager, which is compatible only with selected titles, the purpose of which is to convert a WindowsOS dedicated game into a native Linux game, basing off core data files, typically launching from the installator point.

HERE is an example of me talking about Quake 2 and how to use game-data-packager to get it run on Linux, natively. Some Terminal mingling to it, but I say it is worth it.

There is one thing to note. Definitive majority of iD software games, for the matter, have modern sourceports operating them, with some of these sourceports running on multiple platforms, even FreeBSD. Sourceports are good to get rid of some gripes under modern machines. Sourceports are mostly available in the Linux repositories. The game-data-packager, though it should be able to provide an iteration of a game that is self sufficient, otherwise links up with a present related sourceport, making things easier, also to update resultantly.

Dead Space and Dead Space 2 are unsupported as of yet, but my point is that they could be.

«Besides, it would be good to make the game an open source, for the sake of art.»

Okay, I can see how making such a game as Dead Space or Dead Space 2 an open source release, for a company such as EA, would match terms of capitulation, but what I was rather thinking regarded just the engine. Perhaps we could see some amazing stuff then.

Could someone explain what exactly proton is? What happened to WINE?

I haven’t used linux in years.

PROTON is WINE mounted on Linux by default, polished by Valve.

Entire point with Dead Space running native on Linux boils down to having a sourceport. Then, we just need to extract the core game data and elegantly mount it under the sourceport, without any idle files sticking around. The already mentioned game-data-packager can help with that, as the program allows to automatically download all patches, fixes and possible expansion packs — if they match the recognized core data — as it is instructed to. But the point is, that solution is vulnerable to piracy. The program creates an independent installer, which can be passed on, unless the game has further included security measures. That is why I would rather expect Origin version to come in a ready, Linux native state to download. Every PC-DVD owner can redeem his game on Origin, basing on the PC-DVD code. Steam users, I believe, have the same option. Dead Space running native on Linux would certainly be beautiful and I just cannot agree with the WINE way out excuse.

I have the PC-DVD version of the game, it is indeed DRM-free, also this way. Mouse fix is pretty mandatory to download for those intending to use mouse and keyboard setup. Apart from that, the game runs good, if to remember about the FPS limit of up to 60.

Dead Space 2, in turn, would require setting up an EA account for multiplayer, which I believe will work only if the game has not been redeemed with given PC-DVD code earlier. Setting up the account through the game menu automatically redeems the game on Origin, related service.

But the singleplayer should work.

I hate steam, though. Why should i want to register with origin as well? It’s bad enough i had Uplay forced on me for crappy far cry 4. I hate all these clients

Just give me the damn installer and let me play my game. This is one of the major reasons a freaking despise 2010s gaming and i’m growing out of it. I miss when i could just play from a damn disc.

Similar with my taste, those clients are becoming a nuisance, every major software distributor now has to have a client installed on the machine of a customer. On the other hand, these clients evolved as a way of defense against piracy, so someway, doing piracy, people have asked for it under collective responsibility, to be controlled through DRM devices. Software client is also certainly some way of customer lock and a loyalist program, meaning, you want to avoid having ten of clients running simultaneously on your machine, right? Stay with us, then. In that regard, Steam is a religion, it should be taxed. It is a Facebook of gaming. You not on Steam, you no more.

Hey, there is a way to download DRM-free games from Steam without long term installing of a client. I mean, you could just install the full client, download the game, then uninstall the client, but there is a way more nimble solution, since Steam client is much more than just couple of hundred megabytes large. First, though, you need to know whether the game is DRM-free or not, while AFAIK there are no charts telling that. There is one somewhere on the web, but it is very obsolete. Best way is to just ask on the forum, but y’know how it is, why do you want a DRM-free game if you have Steam? It always causes confusion. Some believe there are no DRM-free games on Steam.

HERE is written how to do it. For the WindowsOS users, the technique would be slighly different with downloading the program. HERE are all the descriptons and the download link given. Once the program starts, always called from the command prompt, everything becomes standard. Mind that SteamCMD is also a kind of DRM, but way easier to handle and to erase once the download is complete, as well as it does not take a lot of space. It can run Steam games requiring DRM as a usual client, I believe. It is operated with text commands.

For the DRM-free games, HumbleStore is a good place to search.

Dead Space

Dead Space Guide

Dead Space is one of the scariest and most gruesome PC Game I’ve encountered! It contains all of the Sci-Fi elements and nostalgia from popular movies of the same genre.

Dead Space also brings some new Role Playing elements like upgrading your weapons, suit and physical abilities. But its really all about dismembering those half-human half-alien monstrosities!

Follow this guide for detailed step-by-step instructions on how to install and configure Dead Space in Linux with PlayOnLinux.

Note: This tutorial specifically applies to the retail DVD version. Steam versions and downloaded versions may require additional steps.

Setting Up PlayOnLinux

To learn more about PlayOnLinux and Wine configuration, see the online manual:

Select Configure

Click on the Install Packages Tab
Select directx9
Click Install

Note: You probably won’t need this package since the DVD already installed DirectX 9.0c but if you have any audio/video or mouse problems, its a good idea to install it.

When its finished, go to the Wine Tab
Click Windows reboot

Close the Configuration window

Launching and Tweaking

Select Dead Space
Click Run

Dead Space ran GREAT on my Linux machine! I was able to change the video options to high and set a Widescreen resolution. Frame Rates were high and it ran super smooth.

PlayOnLinux took care of all the settings and there wasn’t very much configuration on my part.

If you have mouselock problems:
Click Configure
Click the Miscellaneous Tab
Change the mouse warp override options: enable, disable, force

If you have video/graphical problems

Adjust the Display options:
Direct Draw Renderer: opengl
Video Memory Size:size of memory on your video card
Offscreen rendering mode: fbo

Always go back to the Wine Tab and click Windows reboot

Launch Dead Space again
