Destiny 2 для linux
With the recent news that the game will be on Stadia, it means that Destiny 2 does have a Linux build available somewhere. Would it be possible to have it available publicly here on Steam? Heck, I’d be fine with one in a beta branch if it only has AMD support at the moment.
Before anyone says that Stadia should be enough, I’ll mention that my internet doesn’t meet the requirements for it. And there’s a high likelihood that there are plently of other Linux gamers who would want to join in but don’t have good internet speeds. Please Bungie, can it happen?

you have less than 20mbit?
have fun downloading 105GB
It would be really cool to have that option, but there’s a pretty big difference for just having to support the Stadia Debian build, and support all the different distros that everyone uses. Linux users are generally able to work around a lot, but if it like, hard crashes on Ubuntu for some reason, people are going to complain about that, and that’ll be more development resources they’d need to dedicate to that.
But either way, since it’s away from the weird restrictive Battle.net verison, it should be open to Proton as well, which’ll be great to see.

Many game developers often make the mistake to support as many distributions as possible. More often than not, officially supporting Ubuntu only is sufficient. Those who use others can typically work around any possible problems.
In cases like this, devs should only look at bug reports from Ubuntu and distributions based on it. Others get ignored. Meanwhile, Linux players should only report issues on Ubuntu et al. to prevent unnecessarily flooding communication channels with bug reports.
Something got my hopes up about this issue. Not just that Bungie has a history of publishing mac games. In fact Destiny 2 and Halo 2 are the only PC games they have released that only came out on windows. And not just that they are making it for Stadia.
If you go to their FAQ page about account restrictions written yesterday and linked here, https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/11929 it says that modifying system files «including emulators and virtual machines» is disallowed but Proton is neither of these. Also in the other section it makes specific reference to it by saying that «Destiny 2 is not compatible with Steam Play’s Proton.»
This wording feels very intentional. It implies that Proton is not against their rules. If they had wanted to say you will get banned using proton they could have said «Use of Proton is against our terms of service.» It also implies that they actually tested the game in Proton to find out it didn’t work, or they would have said «Proton is not supported by Destiny 2». I might be reading into this too much but If someone is testing Destiny 2 on Linux that might be a good sign.

Seeing this game on Linux would make me tremendously happy!
Seeing as a stadia version is already in the works, it would be awesome if Bungie considered releasing the Linux version on Steam as well.
Or just use Windows like 95% of the rest of the planet does and not expect developers to code for fringe Operating systems.

i Heard u can get ban for playing on linux
The bans came from a users wine patch where somebody literally commented out a function call in a system dll. Realistically wine wouldn’t be officially patched in that manner, they’d work around/fix whatever function calls cause issues rather than remove them allowing the software/anti cheat to work as intended rather than preventing it to.
Without patching the game does not run.
Everyone here is doing a great job at discussing this topic. I’d like to add that this is the account restriction and banning policy:
The key point to note is the changing of system files.
Gaming on Linux. lolololol
That’s like asking for the latest gaming releases on macs.

I started using Linux this year as a completely noob and it is superior to Windows in some aspects. I can’t believe I never tried it before, I wonder why there is no games for it.

As an OS, it definitely has some superior aspects. Most game servers run Linux. But it’s not made for gaming, like Windows 10 is.
Windows 10 is certainly not designed for gaming. When games on PC took off, Windows was really the only option. Of course, Linux is still only 3% of the steam market share.
Also, nobody is asking Bungie to develop for Linux (It would be amazing though!). The Linux community uses a translation layer called wine, which Steam itself has used to build a tool called Proton. Using Proton, Linux users can pretty much play any game on Steam with fewer and fewer bugs as we go. Destiny 2 even runs perfectly on Proton!
Now I don’t claim to be all knowing on this subject of changing files. Is Steam Proton changing files? Wish someone with more knowledge could chime in on that one.
