Direct3D10 is not recommended for a couple of reasons, mainly that it’s a slower the D3D9, it has certain bugs associated with it (at least on some cards) and it has another lighting scheme that is not really what we had in mind when developing the mod.

Any particular reason why you can’t/won’t use D3D9?

It is crashing in 4K but running fine in 3K so I thought maybe if I used DirectX 10 is will work in 4K. What about OpenGL, will the game look the same as the DirectX 9 version if I use OpenGL in 4K or should I stick with DirectX 9 in 3K?

Yeah, that is also my concern. Steam Store page of the mod states «Direct3D 9 Rendering courtesy of Chris Dohnal.» Chris Dohnal’s OpenGL renderer for Deus Ex performs way better on older systems and as well as on GNU/Linux via Wine. I wonder if it is possible to manually install OpenGL renderer for the mod. And will the graphical improvements of the mod support OpenGL?

Yes OpenGL works, we just found that D3D9 was slightly faster and had less issues in our own testing. But use whatever works best for you.

You can, it’s slower then d3d9 but if your computer can handle it, sure. Also bear in mind that Revision iasn’t designed with the new ligthing sceme in mind.

I’ve noticed one or two odd things, like flickering textures (fixed apparently in the latest dx10 renderer release, I copied in the updated one myself), and the rocket helicopter animation at the Hong Kong MJ12 base door crashing the game. I switched to the DX9 renderer temporarily to get past that part.

For what it’s worth, I *really* like the lighting scheme in the DX10 renderer and I’ll be playing the rest of the game with it.

i never had those problems, what OS are you using? what version of DX?

Link to the new kentie renderer?

@brunocar02:
Windows 10, DX10 renderer, OS-supplied DirectX 12, GeForce 760M (yep, it’s a laptop),

My game crashed two times after I posted that 🙁
The DX10 renderer seems to be getting more unstable as I go through the game — I’m currently in the Wan Chai market in Hong Kong.

Is there any way to enable the DX10 lighting scheme in the DX9 renderer?

Deus Ex: Revision

First of all, u should install Deus Ex GOTY at first, after that you ll be able to install this mod

I’ve already done it.

Make sure that both were installed. After this, open Deus Ex: Revision Properties — Verify integrity of game cache

the problem lies in the 32-bit OS. The game looks for more than 2GB of memory, and by default on 32-bit windows, individual applications can’t access more than that amount regardless of how much is available in your PC. To help people avoid this issue, we list a 64-bit version of Vista or newer in the system requirements. You could, at your own risk, try this suggestion below.

Yes it does function on a windows 10 machine, but you will encounter some ridicilously annoying problems. You will see that the resolution won’t fit with most screens today, and that each and every time you load a new area (which will be quite often), the game will minimize to desktop and then load again after at least 5 seconds (depending on your computer).
It is possible and quite easy though, to fix the resolution problem by changing some values in a txt. document, just search for it on google. The loading issues can’t be fixed on Windows 10 (at least I’ve not managed it), but will be possible on Windows 7.

Hope this answers your question 🙂

Huh, don’t think that is a frequent problem. Did it work later on?

I cannot run it on windows 8.1 too

Running it perfectly fine on Windows 10. However you should install the widescreen patch, which might also solve some other issues the game has when changing video modes.

Check the pcgamingwiki for further info (and for how to fix some other issues if you have them) http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Deus_Ex:_Invisible_War

@Marbar:
Sadly there is nothing that can be done about this, as mentioned in the pcgamingwiki. With «perfectly fine» i meant that the game works and runs without the loading hangs and performance issues others have mentioned and at native resolution.

I haven’t looked into that because personally i didn’t mind it (it only shows for a couple of seconds on my computer), but if someone is interested in examining what the «ion launcher» program does it could be possible to replace it with a custom one that draws a black screen or something. The game doesn’t minimize, it completely exits and then is relaunched by the «ion launcher» to load the new area. The «ion launcher» seems to be a small program that all it does is relaunch the game, so it shouldn’t be hard to replicate its functionality with a better behaving program.

Personally i might look into it at some point if i decide to play the game again in the future, but at the moment i already finished it a couple of days ago and probably wont play it again for quite some time 😛

Deus Ex: Human Revolution — Director’s Cut

I have the problem, but MY TEMP FIX is: Start the game, and when the black screen appear, start to spam clicks everywhere. And the game start.
That kind of bug is a DIRECTX problem (payday 2 use to have that problem and they fix it).

BUT you can’t minimize or close the game (it crash or get freezed).

* My general PC specs: Windows 10 pro 64 bits, Directx 12. AMD FX-8350 8cores@4Ghz, 16Gb ram, AMD Radeon R9 280x, SSD 840 EVO 500Gb.
* My PC dxdiag: http://pastebin.com/CfvFtRDw

I also cannot launch the game. No error, no nothing. Just not starting.

I updated from Windows 7 Home 64 bit to Windows 10 Home 64 bit.

This is what the official support center aswere to my email:

«Thank you for contacting SQUARE ENIX support,

Unfortunately there are still a large amount of Square Enix titles that are still not supported for Windows 10. Please keep in mind that this doesn’t mean they aren’t compatible, we simply do not support it at this time. We suggest looking through forums to try fixes that may have worked for other players.»

So. there’s a GOOD chance that we never see a patch for this 🙁

I would take allot of these «game does not work on win 10» posts with a grain of salt at the moment. The upgrading processs is far from clean and trouble free and to be honest allot of these issues sound to me that they are unrelated to both the game and steam.

For one, make sure all drivers are working properly. I had to reinstall my sound card drivers (Soundblaster ZxR and Recon3D headset), as well as my periphirals drivers. I also heard the same reports of video drivers. If problems persist, like the disk read error, try reinstalling disk controllers (e.g. if you have Intel Rapid Storage installed or something like Samsung Magician). It might be that steam has bugged out during the upgrade and are not handling permissions correctly, so uninstalling Steam completely might be a good idea. A good clean install of windows might also alleviate the issues, but for the most part that will be overkill.

All that being said, it runs smoothly for me on Win 10, not a single stuttering or error after almost 30 hours, on a nVidia GTX 780 and i7 5930K
