What’s changed in File Explorer

Like many of the finer things in life, File Explorer has gotten better with age. To check it out in Windows 10, select its icon on the taskbar or the Start menu, or press the Windows logo key + E on your keyboard.

Here are some noteworthy changes for Windows 10:

OneDrive is now part of File Explorer. For a quick primer on how it works, check out OneDrive on your PC.

When File Explorer opens, you’ll land in Quick access. Your frequently used folders and recently used files are listed there, so you won’t have to dig through a series of folders to find them. Pin your favorite folders to Quick access to keep them close at hand. For more info, see Pin, remove, and customize in Quick access.

Now, you can use apps to share files and photos right from File Explorer. Select the files you want to share, go to the Share tab, select the Share button, and then choose an app. For more info on sharing options, see Share files in File Explorer.

If you’re coming from Windows 7, here are a couple more differences:

My Computer is now called This PC, and it won’t show up on your desktop by default. To find out how to add This PC to your desktop or the Start menu, see My Computer is now This PC.

Libraries won’t show up in File Explorer unless you want them to. To add them to the left pane, select the View tab > Navigation pane > Show libraries.

Замечания по поводу исходников (от автора):

• Умения автора, в плане дизайна, не очень хороши. Если кто-то хочет что-то улучшить — пришлите автору сообщение, либо оформите запрос в репозиторий.
• Код использует команды «adb -s ls», о которой автор не нашел никакого описания, либо комментариев. Возможно есть и другие скрытые команды adb. Было бы неплохо, если кто-то нашел способ найти их все.

• adb зависает при загрузке файлов.
• Вывод показывает ошибку после успешного перемещения файла.

Fix File Explorer if it won’t open or start

Note: File Explorer is not the same tool as Internet Explorer. To open Internet Explorer, in the search box on the taskbar, type Internet Explorer, and then select Internet Explorer (Desktop app) from the results.

To open File Explorer in Windows 10, select its icon on the taskbar, press the Windows logo key + E on your keyboard, or select Start > Documents (directly beneath your user icon).

Here are some things to try if File Explorer won’t open.

Select the Start button > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update . Then select Check for updates. Install any available updates and restart your device if required.

Even if you don’t see updates that require restarting, doing so ensures that any pending updates are installed.

On the taskbar, type control panel in the search box. Select Control Panel from the results.

Select System > Advanced system settings.

On the Advanced tab, under Performance, select Settings > Advanced.

Ensure that Adjust for best performance of is set to Programs.

Under Virtual memory,select Change and make sure that Automatically manage paging file sizes for all drives is selected.

Restart your PC. This resets explorer.exe.

On the taskbar, type disk cleanup in the search box. Select Disk Cleanup from the results.

Select the check box by each type of file. (Make sure there’s nothing important in your Recycle Bin before emptying it.)

On the taskbar, type control panel in the search box. Select Control Panel from the results.

On the View by menu, choose Large icons or Small icons.

Select Troubleshooting > View all > System Maintenance.

On the System Maintenance troubleshooter, select Next > Try troubleshooting as an administrator and review the results.

Automatic Repair is a tools that attempts to fix registry corruption. To run it:

Select the Start button > Settings > Update & Security .

Select Recovery > Advanced Startup > Restart now > Windows 10 Advanced Startup.

On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot. Then, on the Advanced Options screen, select Automated Repair.

Enter your name and password.

Automatic Repair now begins. Your computer may restart during this process.

If File Explorer doesn’t work more reliably after trying these steps, please send feedback through Feedback Hub so Microsoft can investigate potential issues.

Explorer shows c drives and other drives when in use but doesn’t show usb drives.

The issue could occur if USB drive is not installed properly.

To assist you better, please provide the information:

1. Are you able to view other external drives created in My Computer list.

2. Have you made any changes to the Computer prior to the issue?

3. When you plug in the USB drives, is it getting recognized?

Method 1 : I suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter and check if it helps.

1. Click on search bar next to Start Menu .

2. Type “ Troubleshooting ” without the quotes and click on Troubleshooting .

3. Click on View All on the left panel of the screen.

4. Click on Hardware and Devices .

5. Click on Next and follow the prompts to run the troubleshooter.

If the issue still persist, refer to the below method.

Method 2: Try to update the driver for USB drives in Device Manager.

1. Press Windows Key + R Key .
2. Then type “ devmgmt.msc ” without the quotes and hit on Enter Key.
3. Expand Disk Drives.
4. Right click on the USB driver and click on Update driver software .
