Package Repositories
Devuan package repositories are exclusive. Other repositories, including Debian, Ubuntu, Mint etc, should NOT be used directly.
What packages are available in Devuan? Please explore our package repositories.
Devuan recommends using the codename (jessie, ascii, beowulf, ceres) rather than the suite (oldstable, stable, testing, unstable) in /etc/apt/sources.list entries. Please go to Devuan Release Information for a detailed explanation.
Devuan has a network of package repository mirrors in place. The mirror network is accessible using the FQDN “deb.devuan.org” via http NOT https . Country Codes (CC) are currently unavailable but a specific mirror from the list can be accessed using the corresponding BaseURL.
IMPORTANT NOTE: auto.mirror has been decommissioned. Please use deb.devuan.org in /etc/apt/sources.list .
Please make sure you have the latest devuan-keyring package and then point your /etc/apt/sources.list to deb.devuan.org . To use deb.devuan.org , you must have devuan-keyring_2017.10.03 or higher.
Default configurations
Devuan 3.1 Beowulf (stable)
Devuan 2.1 ASCII (oldstable)
Devuan 1.0.0 Jessie (oldoldstable archived)
Devuan Chimaera (testing)
Devuan Ceres (unstable)
Access via Tor
We also provide access to our package repositories via Tor. Install apt-transport-tor and then use the following hidden services:
Note that all software shipped with Devuan in the main component is free software. But if needed, non-free software is also available. Just add the non-free and contrib components to the appropriate line(s) in /etc/apt/sources.list like this:
deb http://deb.devuan.org/merged beowulf main non-free contrib
Additional repositories
Add security updates (default: yes)
Security updates are strongly recommended as they provide fixes to identified vulnerabilities. Security updates automatically enter the stable release as they appear. You should activate this repository if your system can connect to the internet.
Add stable updates for fast release packages (default: no)
updates integrate important changes from upstream. Packages in updates will be part of the next stable point release, but are safe to upgrade right away. If you’re using an antivirus and other similar packages that require up-to-date information, you should activate this repository.
Add stable proposed-updates (default: no)
proposed-updates are packages that will become part of the next stable point release but are not fully tested yet. It is usually safe to use them, but we recommend not using them on production systems.
Add backports (default: no)
backports provides newer versions of packages already in the testing suite but linked to stable dependencies. This is useful if you prefer using newer software versions over well-tested stable versions. It is advised to disable backports and only enable to install specific packages.
Add experimental (default: no)
experimental is for testing very new software. Use at your own risk.
Primary Signing Keys
Devuan repositories are cryptographically signed using OpenPGP. The keys used to sign Devuan repositories are available in the package devuan-keyring . The current keys are reported below:

How to Install Devuan
Start here
Devuan and Debian are related but there are subtle differences that could be troublesome. Please read the following to ensure that your transition to Devuan will be uneventful:
- Devuan Beowulf Release Notes detail important changes between the previous and current release.
- Devuan release information describes the relationship between the Debian and Devuan release cycles which are not always in sync.
- Devuan Filenaming Conventions are a roadmap to help you navigate complex filenames.
- Devuan package repositories will help you set up your sources.list properly.
Upgrade or Migrate to Beowulf
When upgrading Devuan, please use the codename rather than stable or testing in /etc/apt/sources.list entries. Please go to Devuan Release Information for a detailed explanation.
Install Beowulf (with screenshots)
Install ASCII (with screenshots)
Additional documentation
- dev1fanboy’s wiki offers additional installation instructions, tips that apply to all to all releases and translations — currently Spanish and Italian — as they become available.
Non-free firmware
Non-free firmware packages are available on all Beowulf install media. These packages will only be installed if required by your wifi adapter. To avoid the automatic installation and loading of needed non-free firmware, choose the Expert install option during the installation process.
The desktop-live and minimal-live images have non-free firmware packages pre-installed. These packages may be removed after boot using the remove_firmware.sh script available under /root .
Useful links
- You can now search the package repositories!
- If you can’t find a package, check the list of banned packages.
- If you think you’ve found a bug, first check that it is not an upstream Debian bug. If it is a Devuan bug please submit to Devuan’s bug tracking system.
- Devuan-specific and forked source code is available on our git store.

Download Devuan From Mirrors
ISO Guide for i386 and amd64
desktop-live (1.2 GB): Explore the default Xfce desktop before installing. Then install easily and quickly from the live session using the refractainstaller . Firmware is installed but can easily be removed.
netinstall (
300 MB): Preferred by more experienced users to create servers, minimal systems but also includes choice of several Desktop Environments (DEs). Not to be used for offline install. Internet connection and available bandwidth needed because all but the core components are downloaded during the installation process. The “expert install” allows user to opt out of firmware installation and a choice of alternate bootloader. A default install will provide firmware.
server (
670 MB): CD1 of a 4 CD set that allows for a complete off-line server/minimal installation. The remaining CDs offer several desktop choices and a limited selection of additional software.
- CD2: Xfce (installable from tasksel) and LXDE.
- CD3: MATE (installable from tasksel) and Openbox window manager.
- CD4: Cinnamon (installable from tasksel) but requires CD2 and CD3 to install.
desktop (4 GB): Use this DVD if there is no network available and/or a need for multiple offline installations. The image contains several desktop choices and additional software options. LXQt and KDE are only available on DVD.
minimal-live (
460 MB): A full-featured, console-based recovery tool with a focus on accessibility for visually-impaired and blind users. Uses the refractainstaller .
Note that these Devuan installation ISOs are signed with the key of the developer in charge of them. All developers keys are listed on the Team page.

Выпуск Devuan Beowulf 3.1.0
