While browsing online my screen will just go blank (no matter what browser I use) Well when I looked the problem up online there were a couple of people with the same issue and with unclaimed displays.
I looked at the driver page for intel they listed my chipset as compatible. How do I fix this?
Re: Unclaimed Display
check that your driver is activated: system admin hardware driver
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo dpkg —configure -a
look for errors logged into:
— .xsession-errors (/home, ctrl+h to unhide)
— system admin logviewer

Display UNCLAIMED. How can i use my graphics card ?

I just installed Linux Mint 17.1 with Cinnamon and I’m having problems. I got a Lenovo y50 laptop with a GTX 860M graphics card but, it seems like some integrated graphics is running the show.
I already reinstalled Mint because i tried installing nvidia drivers earlier and everything went to hell. I really need some help on what to do now without messing it up again.

*-network UNCLAIMED — so how do I ‘claim’ it?
I’ve just put Jaunty on a Toshiba NB200 netbook. Got all 9.04 updates using a 3G dongle (so that works!).
I am trying to install a Netgear 3G Broadband Wireless Router. I’m pretty sure that I’ve set it up correctly as I can access the web (wirelessly) from my Windows laptop, as I’m using it now.
I can connect to the web using my 3G mobile broadband dongle directly connected. My problem — I just can’t figure out how to configure things for wireless in Jaunty!
I know the wifi wasn’t disabled in Windows (apparently, that would mean it could never be enabled in Linux) and I have downloaded the ‘backports’ for Jaunty (which is supposed to help) — but I still cannot find any wireless networks available.
told me that the network controller is an Atheros AR9285.
Now, I’m afraid that I have no idea what that means, but I’m guessing that ‘unclaimed’ may mean something — how do I ‘claim’ it?. I’m fully aware that this is due to my short-comings and not Ubunto. What is that ‘stupid something’ that I either have or haven’t done? Please, point me on my way to a suitable tutorial.
Re: *-network UNCLAIMED — so how do I ‘claim’ it?
‘Unclaimed’ typically means no driver has attached to it. If you have an internet connection by ethernet, I suggest you open a terminal and do:
Reboot and you should be good to go.
Re: *-network UNCLAIMED — so how do I ‘claim’ it?
What it means that there’s no driver claiming it and thus it’s not going to work until one does. For your card, you’ll need the ath9k driver. And if you installed the backports, then you should indeed have the latest version available.
Try opening up a terminal and running lsmod | grep ath, if the output is empty, it means there are no modules with «ath» in them loaded. If it does show some, then run sudo modprobe -r for each possibility (ath_pci, ath5k & ath9k — the rest depend on these and get unloaded as the driver module is unloaded). Afterwards run sudo modprobe ath9k to load the ath9k and then try lshw again to see if it gets associated this time.
Re: *-network UNCLAIMED — so how do I ‘claim’ it?
I’d downloaded the backports, but I hadn’t rebooted! What an old fool!

I got this error after I tried to use a Ndiswrapper driver. then the network goes unclaimed.
When I loaded the modprobe, the network became «claimed».

ubuntu 18.04 intel graphic 9b41 unclaimed, external hdmi display doesn’t work
I got an HP laptop envy x360 core i7 10th gen. I installed and upgraded ubuntu 18.04 on it (latest). I installed lightdm and mate (but I guess this is not relevant in the problem)
The builtin display, though ‘working’ seems not ‘claimed’, as reported by lshw, dunno if this is a problem.
My real problem is that plugin an external hdmi display (samsung 4k) do nothing, dmesg shows no kenel activity, no plugin plugout is detected.
I have another ‘older’ hp envy x360 with core i7 8th gen, and this one works properly, allowing comparison if needed.
The older envy360 lspci shows
The faulting newer x360 shows
So it sounds like the intel graphic interface differ, and I don’t know how to handle this.
The lshw excerp for the older (good) x360 shows
and the faulty one
I wonder if I need to load some intel drivers for this newer envy x360.
Thanx in advance for any pointers.

Well the 18.04 .iso I installed ‘may be’ was not the pure latest, so despite the update/upgrade, the newer machine graphic was not Ok.
I then download the very latest 18.04 .iso and there, from the .iso usb stick, even before install the dual display did work, and so did it after install, I then installed MATE, which chocked a bit, but after a couple of resolution adjust of the external display finally end up to work.
So I guess the answer is, do install the very latest ubuntu on the very latest HW 🙁
Face not so red 🙂
Well I got a ‘working’ config after re-installing latest 18.04 Ubuntu, BUT, it was pure luck, after a couple a reboot I lost the external 4K HDMI display.
BTW the display is a SAMSUMG4K UHD curve with 3840×2160 def.
Basically what happen is that randomly plugin this display into the HP envy x3600 was working or not.
Not working mean the display showing ‘HDMI’ (as a source, there is also an DP source possible), then was flickering black/dark grey, never displaying my desktop, the internal display also going a bit crazy.
I suspected all sort of HW problem, I crossed out the SAMSUNG display along with its HDMI cable, as plugin this as is in a second DESKTOP was always working, so display + cable ok.
The the HP envy external HDMI connector is kinda at fault, or the Ubuntu driver.
And finally I got a workaroud, a little all-in-one USB type C hub, with a lan, 3 USB3, sd card reader AND HDMI 4K connector (in the magnitude of $30)
I hooked this hub (kinda docking), and plugged the HDMI cable in the hub instead in the HP connector and bingo, the external display always shows up correctly, we can as well plug and play the HDMI cable, X11 always reliably fallback in the mono display mode, with primary display reassigned correctly, then replug trig a correct dual display.
Now all is back to norm, why the hp envy/ubuntu is not able to handle the external display stay a mistery, but I can travel with the little usb hub as an acceptable workaround.
