Divinity original sin 2 linux steam
Game won’t run because steam fails to install or run .net framework required for the launcher. I counld’nt do anything about .net but I was able to skip launcher making the game run directly (replace [SteamLibrary] with your path):
cd [SteamLibrary]/steamapps/common/Divinity\ Original\ Sin\ 2/
mv bin bin.bak
ln -s DefEd/bin bin
cd bin
mv SupportTool.exe SupportTool.exe.bak
mv EoCApp.exe SupportTool.exe
After this game runs but says something like «failed to create dir Larian Studios» which I assume refers to save folder, don’t know what is the problem. This was fixed by switching windows version to 10 in winecfg
env WINEPREFIX=»[SteamLibrary]/steamapps/compatdata/435150/pfx» [SteamLibrary]/steamapps/common/Proton\ 3.7\ Beta/dist/bin/wine64 winecfg
You may need to remove «Beta» from proton path.
One thing I can’t change is that everytime I launch the game I have to wait for «first time setup» and long attempt to install .net framework.
Thanks, switching to Windows 10 in winecfg made it work for me! 🙂
Replacing the SupportTool.exe is something I had to do again after today’s update though. I’m not sure if just symlinking it would make it work after another update.
Dud I just got it working not sure if your still trying. I used the latest beta proton build and
cd [SteamLibrary]/steamapps/common/Divinity Original Sin 2\bin
mv SupportTool.exe SupportTool.exe.bak
mv EoCApp.exe SupportTool.exe
I am not very proficient with linux but it worked Im running ubuntu gamepack but the game ran without issue besides some artifacting. Heres a quick video of it

Divinity original sin 2 linux steam
Hey all. Big fan of divinity etc. Bought both classic edition and then later enhanced. Because I knew they were porting it towards Linux? Unsure though if this is coming to Linux? Anyone know as I only have my steam machine now which is steamos.
So don’t want to purchase to find out after a long time that they are not doing a Linux version.
Any thoughts? Shoot!
you have no gurantee that your Windows game will work after the next Windows/Graphics driver either — yeah sure if the game is not too old is will get patched but there are plenty of old/retro-games that run better under WINE than under windows 10
the last(?) major map in DD:OS2
just trying to say: I played to the majority of the game on Linux using Proton and I’m happy I can enjoy this great game
By the way — maybe I should’ve expressed myself more clearly — I’m totally fine with a DXVK port as long as:
— it runs fine with official support
— it has a Linux icon in the Steam Store
— it doesn’t require SteamPlay to be enabled but the DXVK layer is integrated into the Linux Steam depot
Slap DXVK on it, add official Linux Steam icon, provide official support and you just sold the Divine edition to a new happy customer.
Any word on this? I’m looking at the first game but IDK if I want to get it if I can’t continue the series.
Unfortunately Larian people don’t communicate with their community at all. It’s sad to see that they decided to follow what (for example) CD Projekt Red does.
But fortunately as far as I know the timeline difference between both games is
1000 years. I’ve finished DOS1 3 weeks ago and it’s ok as a standalone experience.

Aside from a view characters being there in DOS2 (yes they got very old) the stories are not conencted.
It’s the same world and all but aside from that it’s IMO not at all neccessary to have played the first one (indeed there are other Larian games like Divinie Divinity in between DOS1 / DOS2 — and there are more references to those)
But I have to say it again: DOS2 works great with Proton — have around 70hrs and am almost through the game now — all on Linux/Proton
Would love to play Divinity: Original Sin 2 natively on Linux. I will buy two copies once it is available on my operating system of choice. (No Seam Play/Proton please, I don’t use Wine nor am I interested in using it. )

It actually works perfectly well in Steam via proton. You should give it a shot, one of my favorite games of all time.

I guess it’s not wise to advise Proton to native only crowd. Let them be in peace. :pandastunned:
@rusty_dragon Funny, Windows and macOS users are native crowds only , aren’t they? But that’s okay, they can play native games and we should be just content with playing through a compatibility layer and shut the F up, right? If you do not see what’s wrong with it, then I can’t help you. The Gnu/Linux operating system is not your enemy, even Microsoft uses it and is also a platinum member of the Linux Foundation. I have no problems with Windows and macOS users, I don’t go from forum to forum , to troll, hate or tell them to use this OS or download that compatibility layer. We all should be able to play games on our operating systems of choice and not have to constantly justify why we are using a certain operating system over another , just because one OS is backed by the argumentum ad populum.
I only play native games on Linux, just as you only play navite games on WIndows. I might change my mind the day you use a compatibility layer to play your games on Windows exclusively!

Let’s first get the commoners on Linux, and that’s easier via Steam Play / Proton, and then worry about 100% native game support?
The developers do see the interest from Linux gamers on each Steam Play purchase, when there’s enough, why wouldn’t they start to consider releasing native Linux port upon their next game etc.

IIRC the devs said they’re first focusing on the Windows version, but when it’s done they’ll start looking into making ports for Linux/Mac/Consoles.
So nothing conclusive, but I think that unless the game flops on Windows, there will most likely be a port later on.
I see it’s already for Windows,
Not uncommon, since «all» steam games are released on windows. Only 20% are available for linux.
I know it’s pretty common to develop game especially at early-access stage and then once all issues are solved build it for another platform. It makes sense as it saves developers time while focusing on game mechanics to just support one platform, but when product is finished then it makes sense also release for other platforms.
When I look on steam I am sure there are plenty equaly nice games, but if there is no GNU/Linux native client I simply choose to ignore them.
