Downgrading from windows 10 pro to home

Downgrade from Windows 10 Pro to Home?

For some reason, my Windows 10 Home has magically upgraded itself to Pro, only of course I do not have the product key for Pro so it will not activate. (I think this is because I was part of the Insider programme and then left — presumably the system did not revert to Home as it should have.)

How can I «downgrade» to Home so the system will correctly reactivate itself?

I have tried all the methods I can find with Google but none of those work for me.

For example, I cannot do a clean install of Home — which is what most people suggest — because when I run the Media Creation Tool, it automatically tries to install a copy of Pro. I never see an option to choose Home instead.

I have tried changing EditionID to Core and ProductName to Windows 10 Home in the registry, as I have seen suggested, but this does nothing at all. The system still won’t activate.

Any ideas please? (edit) For example, could I change the Product Key to the default Home key of YTMG3-N6DKC-DKB77-7M9GH-8HVX7?

Unfortunately, clean install is your only option, you can’t downgrade from Pro to Home. Changing the key will not work. You could try the following work around then test your luck:

Open Registry Editor (WIN + R, type regedit, hit Enter)

Browse to key HKEY_Local Machine > Software > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion

Change EditionID to Home (double click EditionID, change value, click OK). In your case it should at the moment show Pro

Change ProductName to Windows 10 Home . In your case it should at the moment show Windows 10 Professional

Browse to key HKEY_Local Machine > Software > Wow6432Node > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion , change the same two values as in steps 3 and 4 above

Close the Registry Editor

Insert the Windows 10 Home installation media, do an in-place upgrade by launching the setup from desktop (not booting with Windows 10 Home install media)

When asked, enter your valid Windows 10 Home product key and select what to keep (settings, personal files and apps, only personal files or nothing)

Windows 10 Home in-place upgrade will be done now.

Downgrade from Windows 10 Pro to Home Single Language

I had reformat my laptop after been infected by ransomware. I sent my laptop to the shop and they had installed Windows 10 Pro but my OEM license is Windows 10 Home Single Language. I had tried to run clean installation by using media creation tool but cant select Windows 10 Home.Right now,my Windows is not activated. I had changed my Windows NT in regedit to Windows 10 Home and even added ei.cfg to sources file but still not working. Hopefully someone can assist me on this.

The error code I have is 0xC004F074 which I had compared it in the forum. I had tried to retrieve product key by using cmd and when I entered product key the error code appeared : 0xc004f050. I had tried clean installation so many times, but whenever I tried to select Windows 10 Home, there is no option for me to select in the first place. I had followed the steps listed by Andre Da Costa by changing the EditionID and ProductName but still the setup will show Windows 10 Pro and not Home.

Hope you can assist me on this concern.

How to downgrade Windows 10 Pro to Windows 10 Home without losing data

Windows 10 is available in many editions in the market, and the demand varies according to the customer. The most common versions of Windows are the following:

  • Windows 10 Pro

The following table highlights the official upgrade and downgrade paths between various editions of Windows 10.

As you can see Windows 10 Pro to Home, Enterprise to Education is labeled as «D». «D» is considered as a downgrade, which technically is not possible unless the user does a reinstall of Windows, which removes apps and settings. This article discusses how to downgrade in such scenarios while keeping everything.

This is very common . . .

Your only option is to backup your data and clean install the Home version of Windows 10, there is no other route to get back to the Home version . . .

You can reinstall Windows 10 at any time and it will not cost you anything !

Since you previously had Windows 10 installed and activated on that PC during the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option ‘I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC’, and activation will not be an issue, your PC will have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers

Make sure you install the correct Edition of Windows 10 (Home) you previously had installed to avoid Activation issues

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS) to begin installing Windows 10

If you have problems booting from a boot disc, you may have UEFI BIOS:
Insert the Bootable Installation Media, then go into your BIOS and make the following changes:
1. Disable Secure Boot
2. Enable Legacy Boot
3. If Available enable CSM
4. If Required enable USB Boot
5. Move the device with the bootable disc to the top of the boot order
6. Save BIOS changes, restart your System and it should boot from the Installation Media

You can’t «upgrade» to home. You will have to do a clean install of Windows Home. Since the system already has the Product Key, activation should be automatic.
