Установка Midnight Commander на Mac OS X Catalina (2020)

Причем здесь флаг СССР? Статья затрагивает программы из далеких 80-х годов, когда был Советский Союз, поэтому и наш красивый флаг из тех времен. Кто помнит те времена и на больших предприятиях в некоторых кабинетах были даже программисты на перфокартах, это отдельная тема.

Так вот, вернемся к установке MC на Mac OS. Уверен, те кто давно работает за компьютером, тот помнит времена Norton Commander и Volkov Commander (Советская версия) и прочих файловых менеджеров, которые помогали работать на компьютере. До того как появился Windows 3.11 и вообще полноценный Windows, основным интерфейсом был MS-DOS. А для UNIX систем был создан Midnight Commander.

Сегодня я решил установить MC на Mac OS Catalina. Зачем? Иногда нужен доступ к папкам и всем каталогам, а его нет, Apple все пытается спрятать. Через терминал — это отдельный танец с бубном, не очень удобно.

Установка не в 2 клика, все оказалось не так просто, как хотелось бы.

Решил поделиться опытом, вдруг кто-то о подобном задумался и не знает как.

Процесс установки

1. Требуется установить Xcode

Берем бесплатную версию Xcode с App Store и устанавливаем.

После установки Xcode выполнить команду в строке терминала:

Если при запуске получили ответ: xcode-select: error: command line tools are already installed, use «Software Update» to install updates. Значит у вас уже установлен Xcode, тогда пропускайте пункт №1 установки Xcode.

После запуска установки, у вас должно появиться диалоговое окно установки, где мы выбираем инсталляцию.

Если этого не сделать то в дальнейшем Homebrew будет выдавать предупреждение.

Чтобы скачать и установить Homebrew, запустим сценарий установки в командной строке который приведен ниже и ждем когда скрипт сделает свое дело:

Теперь можно установить Midnight Commander. В командной строке набираем:

Frustrating, unusable

I was forced to download this after finding that my PC (at home) saved one of my excel files as a .PFILE… (note: without asking me to confirm, it did this. Strike one, microsoft)

After digging and finding this app and attempting to use it to open my file here, I found the app to be unusable. I have a solid internet connection and the app simply spins, without giving me any indication of what it’s doing. Now, I’m without my important files until I get back home to my PC. Very frustrating and damaging to my work.

I will be switching to Open Office 100% of the time after this. Unacceptable.

Worked perfectly

Read the whitepaper. Our Information Protection admin was able to secure a document which I was able to open without an issue after installing this applet. The program itself doesn’t seem to do anything except make the authentication connection to the Azure rights management system. Documents still open directly with the existing Office application and new documents have the option to use our org’s defined security levels.

Users who rate this low are likely not using the proper Office 365 Security license or don’t know what the program is supposed to do.

Does nothing

Was made to download this after being sent a protected file and it does nothing and I have no idea how to open said file now. Tried for my phone and computer. Nothing.

In this release we’ve worked through some bugs that were hanging around in our backlog. Some items we addressed include:

• Added background refresh for subscribed workspaces.
• Fixed an issue where the session window may jump to another monitor when auto-reconnect kicks in.
• Fixed an issue where the session window would sometimes be enlarged after connecting.
• Addressed an issue where the name of a redirected folder would be incorrect in the remote session.
• Fixed a bug that made it difficult to resize remote app windows.
• Improved the error messages that are displayed when user accounts fail to update.
• Fixed an issue where window titles in the list of connected remote apps were blank.
• Addressed a multimon issue where the mouse cursor shape would not update correctly when dragging between monitors.
• Added a checkbox to General Preferences to enable/disable Microsoft Teams optimizations.
• Added UI to report if a remote app could not be launched on the server due to not being on the system allow list.
• Fixed an issue where the session window could not be made wider when placed at the top or bottom of the screen.
• Addressed scenarios where the mouse cursor would disappear while connected to a remote PC.
• Deletion of an Azure Virtual Desktop workspace now correctly removes all associated workspaces.
• Fixed an issue where adding a folder to redirect to a bookmark would enable the «Add» button with an empty PC name.
• Addressed an issue where double-clicking the title bar incorrectly stretched the session window.
• Updated the mouse to change to a hand glyph when hovering over a red input error indicator.
• Fixed an issue where the session window would flash rapidly in the «Mission Control» or «Application windows» view.

In addition, we have continued to make updates to improve connectivity and performance metrics when connecting to Azure Virtual Desktop.

Note that by default subscribed workspaces are refreshed every six hours. This interval can be changed using the ClientSettings.WorkspaceAutoRefreshInterval user default (minimum is 30 minutes and maximum is 24 hours).
