Installing Windows 10 — ATI Radeon X1200 Display not supported!?

I have a Samsung R60+ laptop that has been running Windows 10 Tech Preview quite happily on a temporary hard drive. I’ve just put the original Windows 7 hard drive back into the laptop to upgrade to Windows 10 and the installer tells me that I can’t upgrade because the graphics card is incompatible. IF this was true I wouldn’t have expected the Tech Preview to work. Is there a way around this? I’m particularly keen to make this work as I’ve purchased a SSD specially to keep this laptop alive for another year or so.

AMD or TOSHIBA will not supports or provide X 1200 Driver for WIndows 10.

I got this answer from Toshiba Rep last week after updated my Laptop to Windows 10.

Do not try to install Vista drivers , it could make you laptops crash instanly.

Try this: http://f1.install-driver.com/download/9nzso2kMTgxLjExNC4zMC45MAogp/1320323281_Catalyst-10-2-legacy-vista32-64-dd-ccc.exe (if fail try on the web directly http://install-driver.com/en/file/1320323281_Catalyst-10-2-legacy-vista32-64-dd-ccc.exe.html), i was installed on a satellite L305 Athlon x2 with Ati x1200 and works like a charm, just follow the installation using device manager update driver manually and select the folder: C:\ATI\Support\10-2_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH6A_INF and press ok to accept to install this driver that are not digitally signed. After that now i can change the resolution to 1280×800. If anyone need a detail explanation just send me a mail to *** Email address is removed for privacy *** and i will send you a more detail explanation.

I received the same warning message on my desktop PC abt ATI x1200. I, too, had run W8.1 with no problems.

So first I made back-up copies to an external HD, checked my computer man wasn’t away on holiday, and like Mischmi updated to W10 using the media creation tool. Everything went fine and all I had to do was alter the screen resolution for a better screen presentation.

I am not advising anybody to do it, I am merely corroborating that there was no problem whatsoever.

I downloaded this link before I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. Then I ran the program in W 10. Then I went into device manager and told it to update the Microsoft basic driver, looking in the c:\ATI directory for the section marked drivers, a sub directory, and eventually it found the ATI radeon X1200 driver. It took a few minutes to work, but once it did it, it retained and used that driver and W7 high resolution in W10.

Why Microsoft couldn’t do this is beyond me. I now have an ancient Toshiba P200D running really well W10. It did help that I put in 250Gb SSD a year ago and maxed out the memory at 4Gb.

My success story upgrading to Windows 10 on a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5974 from Windows 7 Professional. Initially (when click on the Windows 10 upgrade icon on the task bar) I got the message «Unfortunately, this PC is unable to run Windows 10» with the stated compatibility issue: «ATI Radeon X1200 Series — The display manufacturer hasn’t made your display compatible with Windows 10». I then burned a DVD with the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (make sure you choose the one matching your current OS — 32 or 64 bit, Home Edition or Professional etc. ) and ran the upgrade on the laptop without any issues at all, ending with a running and activated Windows 10 Pro. The display driver was the basic Microsoft so the Power option was missing the «Sleep» option. I went to toshiba.com web site and found, in the support section, the downloads for my laptop model. I tried to install the display driver from there but when running the downloaded file nothing was happening, except a brief icon showing on the task bar, but without the normal installation dialog. Thinking that I did not download the right driver I ended by downloading and running several versions. All of them were behaving the same ending without upgrading the basic Microsoft driver. I then read more through the posts in this thread and found and did myself this: open the Device Manager, go to the display node, choose to update the driver and choose the option to search on your laptop (not on the internet) and set the search to look starting at the root of the C:// and include sub-folders (since I don’t know where exactly the driver is located). This worked for me and the display driver now shows:

ATI Radeon X1200 Series

Driver Provider: ATI Technologies Inc.
