Hello, I am patiently (but anxiously) awaiting the ability to upgrade my Lenovo Ideapad Z585 from Win 8.1 to Win 10. I checked with Lenovo support back in August. They pointed me to the list of supported models at that time. Although there were dozens on the list, my Z585 was not. They assured me Lenovo was continuing to work on supporting the currently unsupported models, and suggested I continue monitoring the list. I have done so, but 4 months later my Z585 is still missing from the list.

Is Lenovo still working on support for the unsupported models? I realize there may be some older models that may go unsupported, but my laptop is not that old . perhaps 3 years . 3 1/2 at most. It shipped originally with Windows 8, so I would definitely expect it to be supported under Win 10, eventually.

It isn’t critical that I upgrade to Win 10, because I am OK with Win 8.1, for now. But I am using Win 10 on a tablet and another notebook, and I definitely prefer it. And my Lenovo notebook is my primary device. And, I want to take advantage of the free upgrade, while that offer lasts.

I’d be a bit surprised at this point. The ThinkPad T520 is also NOT on the supported list for upgrading. It’s a mainstream business class model. Drivers are old as well for key subsystems such as video and chipset OEM’s have released newer driver sets but Lenovo has not incorporated them for their systems, yet!!

You could try and work through an upgrade but i’d do a full image backup of the boot partition and driver C for a full reinstall if things go south on you. You needs something like Trueimage for which you create a bootable CD to do a full restore wiping out the corrupted upgrade attempt though.

I saw an email where one person was sucessful in his Win 10 on the T520 but I am going to wait a while yet to see if there are updated drivers coming out. I want it fully operation within hours of starting the process. MS upgrade takes 2-4hrs based on two desktops I did ealier plus additional updating after from Windows Updates.

To take advantage of the free upgrade you just have to make up your mind on installing Win 10 and see for yourself if your system will run it. In the event that you decide to revert back to the previous version you have 30 days to do that. And if you made an installer of it you can use it to do a clean install or update the second time. Just be sure of it and note that OKR might be disabled indefinitely by the process.

No. You got it wrong. What Lenovo is telling you is that there is no support for your unit at the moment. Although there is no support it does not mean that you can’t run Win 10. In fact you did do it.

If you don’t want anybody to respond to your query please don’t post it here since anybody can just answer you anytime they want. Be aware of what kind of forum this is. Why not call Lenovo if you need satisfaction about ****sure knowledge.

My statement pertains to updates to Win 10 and what are the options if you change your mind. You should try enrolling to Microsoft’s Insider preview to update your self.

Actually he’s right. I have the same laptop and it doesn’t upgrade to Windows 10 at all. It tries to update but then it says update failed. My laptop has tried and failed some forty times because of automatic update. At this point, I’m just waiting for 26th so it’ll stop bugging me.

You don’t understand the problem, so don’t assume we’re not trying.

No, YOU got it wrong, in several ways.

1) You tried to solve a problem I didn’t have, i.e. what my options were for attempting the upgrade, and for reverting. As I clearly stated, I had already been through that process, so I didn’t need that advice.

2) I installed it last August and found out right off the bat that I could not connect to my network. I spoke with Lenovo, and followed their advise to revert to 8.1 and wait for my Ideapad Z585 to show up on the supported list — supported, as in «we have updated our drivers for that device to support Windows 10». Advising people to «try it» when Lenovo recommends otherwise is ill-advised.

3) Where did I say that I didn’t want anyone to respond? I wouldn’t have posted my question if I didn’t want a response. I said «don’t respond if you don’t know what you’re talking about». If you don’t recognize the difference, I can’t help you.

I suspect Arsonary is correct, that Lenovo is no longer updating that list. But I will contact them directly to determine that.

If I sound cranky, it’s because I am. I am rather shocked that a laptop this new can not be upgraded to Win 10, a good ll, 10 months after the release of Win 10. But I will call Lenovo support to see what’s up.

No Network via WiFi,

Have to tried using the Ethernet port. You may be able to locate a compatible driver and fix the problem. In device manager the installed ethernet and WiFi adapter are identified under Win8.1 as are other components. Expand the items and save a screen shot image. Print it and look for driver for the non functioning devices. Just because its not part of the MS package doesn’t mean its not available. Video drivers are the biggest issue since chipset video is poorly supported by the chipset OEM other than Intel’s which seem be available for more than 2 Windows generations. I had that problem with a Nvidia chipset in an old HP Pavillion which was blocked from updated due to no available drivers.

Comment: Definitely not solving the problem. I’m just making a statement on upgrading to Win 10 even though your unit is not supported. There are numerous users who have done the upgrade with the same condition. Yes there were problems and as stated you are on your own since the manufacturer does not have the support for it either temporarily or permanently decided not to.
