Your SoundLink® speaker is designed to provide years of service with a wide range of mobile devices. Periodic updates may be needed to keep your speaker compatible with products released after your speaker’s manufacture date.

Minimum system requirements
For Windows PC users:
- 300 MHz processor (1 GHz for Vista or Windows 7) 32 or 64 bit
- 128 MB RAM (Windows XP); 512 MB (Vista Home Basic); 1 GB (other Vista editions and Windows 7 32 bit); 2 GB (Windows 7 64 bit)
- Internet connection
- 30 MB available hard disk space
- USB 1.1, 2.0 or 3.0 port
For Mac users:
- OS v10.5 (Leopard), v10.6 (Snow Leopard) or OS v10.7 (Lion)
- Intel-based processor
- 512 MB RAM (Leopard); 1 GB (Snow Leopard)
- Internet connection
- 40 MB available hard disk space
- USB 1.1, 2.0 or 3.0 port
Preparation
First, download the Bose Bluetooth® speaker update application to your computer.
Note for Windows users:
If you have multiple user accounts on your computer, you may be prompted to input administrator credentials in order to run the application.
Once downloaded, the application will prompt you to connect your speaker to your computer with a micro USB cable.
Please make sure the SoundLink® speaker is plugged in using the AC power adapter before running the update application.
Start the application
For Windows:
In the File Download window, click Run or Save
If Run, follow the prompts to perform the update
If Save, select a location for saving the file (Bose_BLUETOOTH_Speaker_Update.exe). Then start the application from your hard drive and follow the prompts to perform the update.
For Mac:
Wait for your computer to download the file. It will appear on your desktop as a hard drive icon
A window should open. Drag the updater file to the desktop as indicated. (If the window doesn’t open, double-click the icon.)
Run the update application from your desktop and follow the prompts to perform the update.
What is the purpose of the SoundLink ® Wireless Mobile speaker firmware update application?
This application allows for a simple, immediate software download directly to your computer and into the SoundLink ® speaker.
Why might I need to upgrade my speaker firmware?
Periodic software updates may be needed to keep your SoundLink ® speaker compatible with mobile devices released after your speaker’s manufacture date.
Can this update be accomplished on either a PC or a Mac?
Yes. The PC or Mac used for the update must meet the minimum system requirements found on the download site.
How do I connect my SoundLink ® speaker to my PC/Mac?
You can use any USB to micro-USB cable that you may have, usually supplied with a digital camera or GPS.
Will this update affect my computer in any way?
While the application is running, it will create and utilise temporary working files. When the application has finished and closed, it will remove all temporary working files, leaving behind the driver and the downloaded application file (Windows machines only). The application file can be deleted from your computer after the update is complete, but we recommend leaving the driver installed on your computer to make future upgrades easier.
How long will the update take?
The update may take as long as five minutes to complete.

I do not work for Bose but I have lots of Bose devices (2 Revolve’s, soundlink mini ii, soundsport wired, and QC35ii) and a Dell Precision laptop with Windows 7/64. Your problem as you described is likely an incompatibility between windows 7 and you Soundlink micro. I can tell you that a while back, none of my Bose devices worked. The reason was not Bose and not Microsoft, it was the Bluetooth hardware provider for my laptop — Intel. I tried installing and uninstalling three different versions of the drivers. I even uninstalled two windows updates which were said to conflict (check intel bluetooth site for which two — even if you don’t use Intel). I even tried uninstalling windows updates back two years. Nothing seemed to help. Then someone else in the other Bose forum said they were also having a problem with Intel. I eventually gave up. The solution was to totally disable (in Windows) the Intel bluetooth hardware and for $12 on ebay I purchased the SMK Nano Bluetooth USB dongle with CSR drivers. Now all the Bose devices work fine (though I am still having the documented ‘volume’ problem with my Revolve’s but none of the other devices).
I can not guarantee that SMK will work for you and it will use up a USB port, but for $12. Perhaps some other vendors may work as well, I can’t say which myself. So it may be worth a try to get it work with Win 7. Worse case is it will still not work and you are out $12. If you try a few and none of them work, it may be an issue between window 7 itself and the Bose Micro. And by the way, most people know that if you are Amazon Prime (for example) and purchase something that does not work, you give that as your cause for the return and they refund you and pay for the return shipping.

FYI — this issue still has not been updated or corrected on their website.
I have an original Soundlink Mini — and went through the same process other owners have had (the BOSE website DIRECTED me to the application download page by my serial # — and did not redirect to a «firmware updates are not available for your model» page — which it should.
My speaker has been «initializing» since Thursday, and I’ve sent two unanswered e-mails to Bose’s support since then.
I’ll try some of the steps I’ve seen in the conversation above, but am very disappointed that a company with as much clout and capability to produce great products has such a poor response to an issue that has clearly been pointed out.
I should not have to google for an answer to something that should be this simple.

Hi. My soundlink mini is still not charging after the update. Called service centre and was advised that it will cost around same price as new one if i want to fix the battery. There is a sgd50 charge to diagnose and payable if i do not wish for it to be fixed. It is crazy for a 2 year old product. Won’t make a second mistake.

This post makes no sense. Current release is 1.1.4. Would love to flash my soundlink mini II with an older firmware, to try to fix flashing red LED. I’ve had mine 20 months and its trashed. Waste of money. Last Bose product I’ll ever buy.

The firmware version mentioned in this thread is for the special edition of the SoundLink Mini, Not the previous version.

What’s interesting is, when I try to update firmware, the updater knows my unit has the latest firmware. It also knows the name and serial number of my Mini. So the unit is alive in some state, just won’t turn on or charge. I feel the issue is with the firmware, which could be fixed, but Bose doesn’t want to, or know how to fix it.

Bose Singapore advised that they are able to fix (replace) the battery. They mentioned that this is a known issue. Nothing else wrong with the unit. It will cost the same as a new unit. You can guess what I will do. Never invest in one again.

My registration shows my serial number so, my question is, why is the unit now flashing red without turning on or, apparently, taking a charge. This happened out of the blue. It just stopped working. I’d LOVE for my Bose SoundLink Mini II Limited Edition Bluetooth Speaker to work again. I miss it terribly.
I have NOT installed the update as the reviews gave me a reason to pause. The unit is as I bought it, no updates or changes made to it.

Welcome to the Bose Community! We are deeply sorry to hear that your speaker is showing a red LED.
Let’s try and perform a reset on the speaker by powering on your speaker, then pressing and holding the power button for ten seconds until the product powers off.
Please do also try to perform the update if the reset does not resolve this for you. To do this please connect the speaker to a PC/Mac via the USB charging cable, once connected please visit our online updater and follow the on-screen instructions.
