Dlink DWA 548 ( Ralink 5392 ) — need a bit of help getting proprietary driver to run

I need a bit of help with a Dlink DWA 548 ( based on Ralink 5392 ). Its installed in an old box I`m using as a home router/wifi ap.

It`s running debian with 3.11.1 kernel. The card works out of the box, but I`m having nasty issues with connection quality, even in a crowded wifi environment I`m getting up to 50% packet loss on client pc’s and very low transfer speeds, merely

10 m away from the router.

I`ve tried playing around with modes in hostapd.conf but b/g modes did no good to stability. So I figured I need to build/install the proprietary driver, and eventually failed at that.

Following Chilli’s instructions in older posts I downloaded the latest version of proprietary driver, updated config.mk and makefiles appropriately ( had to get rid of some macros that are gone in later kernels ) and built the driver. I`m pertty sure I tried with HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=y and HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=y/n

After building the driver I installed it and blacklisted stock drivers in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

However when I booted — hostapd refused to start, complaining about

I tried editing the .dat file in /etc/Wireless, but the changes seemed to have no effect.

Last thing I tried was poking around iwpriv commands as described in iwpriv_usage.txt in the driver docs, but to no success.

Right now I`m completely lost and need few pointers on how to correctly load & configure rt5390sta.ko driver that I build. I`ll gladly provide any log/config files needed.

Oh this is bad. It seems the driver is way too outdated to support AP mode.

I found the config options HAS_APCLI and HAS_APCLI_WPA_SUPPLICANT in config.mk and set them both to =y

To build the driver I had to patch the source to conform to new definition of http://wireless.kernel.org/80211book. frequency.html and also the struct http://wireless.kernel.org/80211book. 80211-ops.html

The driver built successfully, and hostapd now successfuly found it, but now it failed to initialize it:

установка драйверов d-link wi-fi адаптера

Здравтвуйте. Мне надо установить драйвер для wi-fi адаптера, производитель d-link. Драйвера скачал, но не знаю как установить, да и вообще я навичок в линухе.

Какой дистрибутив? Точная модель длинка? Что и откуда скачал?

OS Mandriva 2010 FREE, модель адаптера DWA-110, качал с ftp://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Wireless/DWA-110/Drivers/Linux/ название архива 20071128_DWA110_RT73_Linux_STA_Drv1.0.4.0

Ну кто нибудь мне поможет, народ помогите

распаковать и прочитать README мозгов не хватает?

Будь по проще, не груби. Я в английском языке не очень, вернее ни как.

В архиве находится файл с именем README. Выложите его содержимое на http://paste.org.ru/ или прочтите и поймите самостоятельно.

И вообще, я бы на вашем месте попытался бы решить проблему средствами дистрибутива. Кстати, назовите, пожалуйста, его имя и версию.

ты еще и в русском никак. как выучишь хоть один язык — сможешь воспользоваться переводчиком, и будет тебе счастье.

Mandriva 2010 Free, нужного rt73 там вроде нету

Инструкция:
1) Распаковать архив где-нибудь ближе к домашнему каталогу
2) Открыть терминал
3) cd /путь/куда/распакован/архив/Module

6)Должен появиться сетевой интерфейс rausb0, который можно настроить NetworkManager’ом.

что-то мне подсказывает что с новыми ядрами оно работает без всяких лишних телодвижений со сборками драйверов

Может быть, вам только firmware нужно?
Вставьте устройство в USB-разъём и введите в терминале: dmesg | tail
Откройте в браузере сайт http://paste.org.ru/ и, выделив текст в терминале мышкой, нажмите в поле для ввода _средней_ кнопкой мыши. Это скопирует текст из терминала в поле ввода. После этого нажмите «paste» и дайте результирующую ссылку нам.

lspci покажи. 99% у тебя там чип atheros, а поэтому:
#твой_пакетный_менеджер install madwifi

Hi, Fellow Linux’ers,

I am a newbie with linux, but have some decent experience in IT.

My situation:
I had a usb wireless adapter DWA-125, which i was using with my desktop pc with linux mint 16. As soon as i started to use a lot of internet bandwidth wifi connection disconnected, asked for password, etc.
I figured that this is due to bad usb dongles which gets too hot and are unstable if they get a lot of work load. To stabilize the situation i forced my router to run in G mode, up to 54mbp/s and the disconnections occured a lot more rearly so i could work with that for a couple of weeks.

Now i have bought a pci express card: DWA-548, which should be a lot more reliable. After inserting the card and booting up linux mint 16 automatically detected my wireless card, from the detected wifi networks i can guess that the range was a lot better.
First thing i did was set my router to use only N protocol and ran a speed test on my laptop computer with win 7 and my linux mint computer.
Win 7 laptop was getting a stable 30mbp/s, while linux mint with my brand new 300mbp/s wifi card was getting only 17mbp/s.
The same was happening before with wifi usb dongle DWA-125, on linux mint i got only about 5mbp/s and on windows 7 same usb wifi adapter had

Next thing i did, i googled a lot what could be the cause for this and figured i need to update the drivers for my new pci express wifi card.
I installed ndiswrapper and required packages using synaptics package manager, downloaded latest drivers from dlink and tried to install a newer driver edition.
Everything went ok — got the driver installed.
After installation wifi stopped working, so i figured this might be due to an alternative linux driver and added: «blacklist rt2800pci» to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Tried to reboot and it didn’t work.
Tried all versions of windows drivers, removed all windows drivers, removed ndiswrapper, tried rebooting after each step and now the wifi wont work even on linux drivers.

Now i have ndiswrapper installed again together with a compatible(probably) win xpx64 wifi card driver
