E-MU 1616m, 1212m, 1820m, 0404 Audio Interface — Complete Windows 10 (1903 & Above) Installation Guide

This is a complete guide to setting up the E-MU 1212m/1616m audio interface on Windows 10 version 1903 and above. It will work for both PCI and PCI-Express and should work with the E-MU 1820/1820m/0404 audio interfaces too but you may need to rename the 2 instances of your device name in the EMU_Driver_Fix script file. Huge thank you to ClubHouseKey, whose information saved my business from any downtime. The E-MU 1616m PCI-Express is the audio interface I have and I will never get rid of it unless there is absolutely no way to keep using it. Amazing piece of hardware! If any new updates are posted in this thread then this first post will be edited accordingly.

E-MU 1212m/1616m — Complete Install Guide for Windows 10 (1903 & Above)
*Please perform each task in the exact order listed.*

1. Download the E-MU_Windows_10_Install.zip file from https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ar-KCv7xikVOh23zeXTESuD8k2ih.
2. Extract the zip file to your main Windows 10 drive and change the name of the folder to » temp«. (C:\temp)
3. Remove all current E-MU Drivers and PatchMix software.
4. Install the EmuPMX_PCDrv_US_2_30_00_BETA drivers and RESTART INTO SAFE MODE by holding the shift key when clicking on Restart. Choose Troubleshoot, Advanced Options, Start-up Settings and click Restart. When the start-up options appear, press F4.
5. Once in safe mode right-click on the start button and open Windows PowerShell (Admin). Type into the PowerShell window

to run a modified version of ClubHouseKey‘s script. This will replace our windows files with the updated files. Performing this step in a normal Windows environment will either cause the script to not run at all due to script settings within Windows or some files will not get overwritten because they’re in use.

Restart Windows normally and then install the EmuPMX_PCApp_US_2_20_00 PatchMix Software.

You should now have successfully installed your E-MU Audio Interface.

If ASIO isn’t working then click on Start and type regedit and click on Registry Editor. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, right-click AsioThk32Reg and choose Modify. Change CTASIO.DLL to CTASIO64.DLL.

I hope this guide helps everyone that wants to keep their 1212m/1616m running.

Thank you for the kind words. I’m glad we’re all continuing to use our EMU audio interfaces far beyond their official OS compatibility. Maybe one day Creative will update us with a driver package that just contains the steps we have here, but I doubt it. As of 10th April 2021, this Installation Guide still works perfectly.

I just wanted to offer a few basic practices to keep your systems clean, fresh and working smoothly, especially when Windows 10 updates can ruin our EMU audio interfaces.

• Pause Windows Updates for the entire 35 days so you can update manually when not in a critical working period.
• Clean install Windows 10 (not as an update) via a USB stick at least once a year, or at your own convenience when a new Windows 10 version is released. This will keep your system running smoothly. Remember to backup your files stored on this drive first.
• Keep all non-OS/program files on a separate drive away from the Windows OS drive (C:). Not only will this improve performance, but it will also help if there is a failure on the OS drive.
• Backup any non-OS/program drive regularly, preferably after completing a project. If possible, run these drives in a RAID 1 array so if one drive fails you can replace it without losing data.

Известная проблема, когда на ОС Windows 10 карты e-mu (PCI точно) могут работать только в режиме 48000, в других режимах звук отсутствует. Это касается WDM, через ASIO же доступен весь спектр частот. Соответственно, можно работать с наиболее ходовой частотой 44100. Но, такая же дискретизация будет автоматом выставлена и в windows, а не только в патчмиксе, что отключает весь остальной звук (браузерный, системный и т.п).

Соответственно, нам нужен софт, который принимает системный поток и выводит его через asio. На данный момент, мне известно о двух подобных программах, а именно: O Deus ASIO Link Pro и Voicemeeter. Первая более функциональна, но платная ($50), а вторая условно бесплатна, и так же прекрасно справляется со своей задачей.

День добрый. А J River Media Center не тестировали? Там тоже были средства по перехвату wdm потока и перенаправления на звуковую по asio.

Нет, не пробовал. В принципе, джей ривер, это широкий комплекс, а voicemeeter или o deus более специализированные средства, ничего лишнего, так сказать.

MAXIM_A в win 7 частоты выставляются все так что по данному вопросу в ней делать ничего не надо

Есть еще один вопрос для всех систем с большой (более 4 гб) памятью , при попытке вывести звук через HOST WAVE (нужен для SPECTRALAB и еще ряда программ)нормально работает только до 4 гб оперативной памяти , если использовать больший обьем то сигнала с него нет, были предложения искусственно ограничивать обьем используемой оперативки ( в этом случае все работает стабильно) , кто-нибудь заставил E-MU выводить звук на HOST WAVE с используемой оперативной памятью 8-16 гб?

сам спросил , сам и ответил вообщем можно сделать следующее : скачать (в продолжение темы с того же сайта) http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Cable/index.htm ( Virtual Hi-Fi Cable And ASIO Bridge ) ,установить ну и далее на микшере вместо HOST WAVE отправляем HOST ASIO ну и потом на том-же спектралабе (или еще каких программах) в опциях входного устройства используем не Wave E-MU ,а hi-hi cabel output .

Как завести аудиокарты E-MU и прочие внезапно несовместимые устройства в OS X El Capitan?

После обновления до последней версии OS X я столкнулся с большущей проблемой. Моя прекрасная E-MU 0404 USB перестала работать. После всех установок-переустановок утилита E-MU USB Control Panel выдавала пустой список устройств. Друзья по несчастью на разных форумах цитировали один и тот же ответ, подорвавший былую веру в производителя:

Оказывается, еще на OS X Lion все должно было перестать работать, но, тем не менее, все было прекрасно вплоть до последнего обновления, с OS X Yosemite. Что же такого поменялось в OS X El Capitan? Все дело в новой системе защиты системных файлов System Integrity Protection (SIP). Грубо говоря, те манипуляции стороннего ПО с системными файлами, для которых система раньше просила ввести пароль администратора, теперь безоговорочно запрещаются. Сделано это было из самых благих побуждений, в целях безопасности, но в результате под нож попало немало старенького ПО; в том числе, и драйвера E-MU.

Для того, чтобы все заработало, необязательно выкидывать свой Apple-компьютер на свалку прогресса и откатываться до предыдущей версии ОС. Достаточно просто отключить System Integrity Protection.

1. Выбираем перезагрузку компьютера
2. Зажимаем Cmd-R и попадаем в рекавери.
3. Выбираем «Утилиты — Терминал» (Utilities — Terminal) в верхнем меню
4. В командной строке вбиваем «csrutil disable»
5. В ответ получаем сообщение об успешном отключении функции, перезагружаемся, накатываем драйвера заново и радуемся.

EMU 0404 USB 2.0 Audio Driver Problem In Preview Build 10041

I was using the latest drivers available for the EMU 0404 USB 2.0 audio device in the previous build (9926) without any problems. But when system updated to preview build 10041, the driver stopped working.

Applications trying to output audio now freezes and “The audio service is not running” message is displayed at the sound volume icon on the taskbar.

Uninstalling and reinstalling driver didn’t solve the issue.

By the way, the driver version is 1.40 for Windows 7 x64 and it is a beta release because this device is no longer manufactured.

Now I wonder if it is a temporary state that will be resolved in the final release or this kind of old (but perfectly working) usb audio devices won’t be supported any more.

I have an issue that might be related:

Only 48k sampling mode works.

All other sample rates “Failed to play test tone” in test, just like this:

I’ve already set the sample rate in EMU PatchMix (Creative’s soundcard management app) accordingly, like this:

I’ve tried 44.1k/88.2k/96k, all the same error. But 48k works fine. Sample depth does not matter.

The EMU drivers I’m using are:

Same thing happens here with EMU-1212m PCIE card on Windows10 RTM.

I use this sound card for digital output, the COAX jack output the S/PDIF digital signal to an external DAC. The external DAC can recognize all the sample rate correctly including 48KHz and 192KHz, but Windows cannot output any sound through the WAVE output and shows ‘failed to play test tone’ unless I set the sample rate to 48KHz.

As noted, the ASIO output works fine with all sample rates, only the WAVE output has this issue.

Absolutely the same situation! External DAC, SPDIF and no sound except at 48 kHz. ASIO works fine on any sampling frequency.
My English is pretty bad and I can not describe in detail the situation, thank you for joining the discussion.

Same problem here on EMU-0404 PCIE and Windows 10. I was on 8.1 before and I haven’t tried any of the early Win10 and I’ve also been mostly using 24bit/48kHz.
But I was definitely able to switch between different sample rates on Win 8.1, which, like posters above said, is not possible anymore on Win10. ASIO also seems to run fine with me.

I have E-MU 1212M PCI (not PCIe) and same problem occurs on Windows 10 x64 (Final Build) here too. No Windows audio on 88.1 -96-176-192 kHz. Just at 48kHz. (ASIO fine at all freqs)

I have E-MU 1212m PCI (first version) that still serves me OK for music playback. I wouldn’t replace it. I have used it on Windows XP 32 and 64bit, Vista, 7 32 and 64bit without problems at all. I have also used it on the many builds of Insider Previews od Windows 10 (like beta tester) for almost a year. The card was working also very good without problems at all!
But, now, that I installed final version of Windows 10 Home 64bit, there is a problem with the card, or, should I better say with Windows. So, the problem is that ONLY the 48khz sample rate gives sound. 44.1, 88,2, 96, 176 and 192khz does not work. I know how to adjust the sessions, in PatchMixDSP and also in Windows Control Panel, I learned it over the years
So, I tried all driver/patchmix versions available to me but with no luck. Always the same!
The problem is with the Windows sounds, on the WAVE strip, I mean: Foobar, WMP, Internet Explorer or any other windows app/sound.
To add, ASIO works OK for music listening trough Foobar2k, but it does not output any of the windows sounds, IE, WMP. which is a problem for me.
To sum it up, I would say that the Windows does not output signal on the mentioned sample rates to the card, if it could be said that way

I also get “Failed to play test tone” error like the other users in this thread and I can say that my problem is exactly like others here.
