Я бы никогда не поверил что можно запустить MacOS на PC. Но вот оно — сижу под ХР, рядом окошко с запущенным MacOS X 10.3. Рулез. Для запуска нужен соответственно iso-образ MacOS или Darwin(Дарвин загрузить можно тут — http://developer.apple.com/darwin/)

Repository moved to Github

I moved the main repository of PearPC to Github. Hopefully this makes merging patches easier. Additionally, I made the repository compile under clang and the assembler shipped with Mac OS X.

PearPC 0.5.0!

It took a whole lot of a while but here is finally the 0.5.0 release. This is the first release with AMD64 support. The are also a lot of smaller bug fixes and compilation problem fixes.

PearPC 0.4.0

It took a while but here is finally the long awaited 0.4.0 release. This is the first release with G4 support by Daniel Foesch (you have to enable it in your config). Other feature include support for native CD-ROMs (no need for images) and endianess safety (i.e. you can run PearPC on big-endian systems).

Altivec merge

We finally merged the altivec-branch into the main CVS tree. That means you can now use the G4 emulation with the standard CVS tree. You can also expect the 0.4 release soon.

To enable altivec emulation you have to set the entry "cpu_pvr = 0x000c0000" in your config file.

PearPC 0.3.1

This is mainly a maintaince release fixing some wrong/unimplemented keyboard mappings, a JITC bug preventing Java applications to run and a partition table problem. Additionally the BEOS port was updated.

Important note: This release fixes an ugly partition mapping bug which prevented PearPC to boot OpenDarwin. But the fix might cause regressions: so if your image is no longer booting and you can compile pearpc yourself, please talk to the pearpc-devel mailing list.

PearPC 0.3.0

The most important change of this release are the accurate timing facilities which made PearPC faster and allowed us to implement idle-sleep. So PearPC no longer consumes CPU time when the client is idle. Other changes are an SDL port (faster graphics), full screen support for Win32 and SDL and of course a lot of optimizations.

Note that there are again some small config file changes, so please update your config file from the shipped ppccfg.example. I also updated the about page to reflect recent development. Read the full changelog for all changes.

The most important change of this release is certainly that network now also works with Windows as host. Since we now have conditional redraw code, you can take a smaller redraw interval without dramatic speed decrease. With this release, you can switch the screen resolution (i.e. the size of the window) at runtime via the video.x driver. Note that there are some small config file changes, so please update your config file from the shipped ppccfg.example. Read the full changelog for all changes.

With this release you can finally use network with Darwin PPC / Mac OS X clients (but still only with Linux as host).

PearPC 0.1 released!

This is the first official release of PearPC. Please note that this is an experimental program not meant for productive use. There are still unimplemented instructions, mysterious bugs and missing features. Don’t use it on important data, it WILL destroy them sooner or later! However if you are brave enough to try it out fetch one of the builds or the source. Don’t forget to read the documentation, it will save you hours of frustration! And please don’t whine if it doesn’t work for you but fix the bugs.

Если вам посчастливилось заиметь установочный диск с MacOS X, то можете попробовать поднять сие чудо у себя на PC хотя бы под MS Windows, хотя принципиально процесс установки на *nix и win не отличается, кроме как в разнице путей к носителям и образам (есть в примере файла конфигурации).

ISO образ MacOS X (если есть диск с системой, то сделать образ можно при помощи Alcohol 120% или ISOBuster), если у вас нет дистрибутива, то можно его купить или поискать в Интернет. Существует версия на одном DVD или 3х CD (для установки нужен CD1)

Дистрибутив PearPC, желательно скачать последний CVS build с сайта http://richardgoodwin.com/ (0.3 MB) оптимизированный под конкретный процессор, версия 0.4 (последняя stable версия 0.3.1 лежит на сайте PearPC)

Образ жесткого диска pearpc-3gib.img.bz2 (0.002 MB)

Из дистрибутива PearPC нужны только 3 файла:

ppc.exe – само приложение
ppccfg.example – пример конфигурации
video.x – файл необходим для запуска MacOS X.

Необходимо положить эти 3 файла в одну папку, например «D:\Mac», распаковать туда pearpc-3gib.img.bz2 (файл образа диска занимает в распакованном виде 3 GB). В файле конфигурации ppccfg нужно прописать пути к образам жесткого диска и установочному CD/DVD.

И выделить больше оперативной памяти, так как по умолчанию стоит 128 MB (0x8000000 HEX), чем больше памяти, тем лучше.

В зависимости от производительности системы, можно поэкспериментировать с параметром прорисовки, это позволит настроить более плавную реакцию системы в эмуляторе.

Для загрузочного устройства лучше выбрать «ручной» метод, чтобы иметь возможность выбрать, с чего загружать систему, с CD/DVD или жесткого диска.

На этом предварительная настройка заканчивается. Для запуска системы необходимо запустить ppc.exe с ключом, в роли которого выступает файл конфигурации, например, ppc.exe ppccfg.

Дальше запустится установка MacOS X и первое, что необходимо сделать, это вызвать утилиту управления дисками (меню Installer – Open Disk utility)

В ней создать раздел, после чего перезапустить эмулятор и начать установку. Инсталлятор интуитивно понятен и проблем возникнуть не должно. В зависимости от условий, установка может занять от одного часа до пяти.

Можно настроить сеть между PearPC и локальной системой, для этого в файле конфигурации предусмотрены соответственные опции эмулирования карт от Realtek или 3Com, но тормоза в работе виртуальной машины ставят целесообразность всей этой процедуры под сомнение. Это, пожалуй, единственный недостаток.

Для упрощения настройки существует графическая оболочка PearGUI (0.09 MB), которая поможет настроить все более легким способом.

Аналогично можно установить любую другую систему для PPC, например один из дистрибутивов Linux: Fedora Core, Yellow Dog или Mandrake.

Есть еще один эмулятор, который выпущен совсем недавно.

CherryOS – фактически первый и единственный коммерческий эмулятор компьютера с процессором G4. Процесс установки и настройки снабжен интуитивно понятным графическим интерфейсом, так что не придется настраивать вручную и разбираться с файлами конфигурации, достаточно указать путь, где хранить образ диска, включить сеть и CD, и указать местоположение образа или привода с дистрибутивом MacOS X.

Программа имеет ознакомительный срок 14 дней и работает чуть быстрее, чем PearPC.

Phone the online Apple Store, order Mac OS X Server 10.6, and run it inside a product such as VirtualBox, Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion.

See if the developers have upgrades or find replacement applications. Otherwise, you can’t unless you follow Niel’s suggestion for emulation. It is slow and iffy.

Contrary to intuitive thought, many PowerPC apps running in Snow Leopard Server in Parallels on today’s modern day CPU’s (i5, i7, etc.) actually run faster than they did on their native G4, or G5, etc.

Here is my complete answer for the OP’s benefit:

Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta. Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990’s until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.

However, Apple’s license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion). While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion or Mavericks.

1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;

2. If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the «dual-boot» method to choose between your PowerPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;

3. Upgrade your software to Intel compatible versions if they are available, or find alternative software that will open your data files, modify them and save them;

4. Install Snow Leopard Server (with Rosetta) into Parallels or VMWare Fusion. Apple is now selling Snow Leopard Server for only $19.99 + sales tax & shipping; call 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) and ask for Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only) .

This solution will give you concurrent use of your PowerPC applications and access to Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks.

Question: Q: How to run PowerPC software on new Macs

Want to install and run an old Power PC sortware on a new Intel Mac.

Upon installation, a pop up window on the new Mac says Power PC is no longer support.

My friend had the same software running smoothly on a 2009 Macbook Pro. He installed the software long ago on his old Power PC mac and then through migration the software is now running on his Intel Mac.

Did I miss anything during installation?

Snow Leopard supported Rosetta which enabled the running of PPC applications on Intel Macs.

Lion and Mountain Lion do not support Rosetta, so you cannot run PPC software on the latest Macs.

There is a way to do it, but not pain free.

You can get Parallels Desktop for Mac, which is virtualization software that enables you to run guest operating systems on a Mac like Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, etc.

One of the guests that is allowed is OSX Snow Leopard Server. (Regular Snow Leopard will not run — you need the Server Edition). This is no longer available from Apple, but may be available on eBay, Amazon, etc.

From Snow Leopard Server you can run Rosetta Apps.

Can’t believe Apple pulled OS X Snow Leopard Server from the store.

But they are still selling regular Snow Leopard.

I wonder if Apple discontinued this because they found out user were running it in virtualization mode to still run their PowerPC apps this way. That’s not right if that is why Apple did do this.

I wonder if you can still get this if you call Apple, directly.

There goes being able to run PowerPC apps on the new iMacs.

At least once the supply of Snow Leopard Server discs run out.

I may try and purchase this before the supply runs out.

Awesome Price! I didn’t think I would need this, though. I am rethinking that strategy.

How to run PowerPC applications on Mac OS X. I have 10.7.2 OS X Lion. The thing you are looking for is Mac Addict Disc 125. It is in Utilities on that disc that you will find Application Wizard. This is important. Also a copy of Tiger OS X 10.4 would come in handy. You would place Tiger OS X 10.4 in Developer folder on Hard Drive. Afterwards running Application Wizard should allow you to force Rosetta applications to run in Rosetta. This is Classic Mac OS you can force applications to run in this. This Mac Addict Disc 125 will allow install on OS X. It is one of the OS X discs placed out there by Mac Addict.
