What is non-core edition of Windows?
Some posts on this forum refer to some licensing related error on Windows whereby a part of error message outputs as
‘… on a computer running Microsoft Windows non-core edition run slui.exe…’
Is there anything like core & non-core edition of Windows?
I wish to understand in layman terms what is meant by non-core edition of Windows?
e.g. I have Windows 7 Ultimate with SP1 32 bit. Is it a core or non-core?
Replies (4)
Core is the basic Windows 8 edition, known as Home in earlier and later Windows editions.
I’ve never heard of Windows 7 Home referred to as Core, but if it were then it would likely refer to the Home version as that’s they only way I’ve known it to be used.
Is there an underlying problem we can further help you with?

There appears to be some duplication of terms for different purposes
Windows Server Core is the stripped down server functionality with no graphical interface which increases security and stability. Because it runs under a command line interface can slui.exe be run if it uses a gui interface itself?
However «core» is also being used for the lowest level of a particular version of Windows. Because higher levels have a label (Pro, Enterprise, Ultimate) how do you refer to the base version if it doesn’t have a label. Not a problem if Windows 7 because they all have labels but does «Windows 8» in a document mean all versions or specifically the one that is not Pro, Enterprise etc.? Then when it is not about a specific version such as 7 or 8 or 10 you can’t say «Home Basic» because 8 and 10 don’t have one when they all have Pro

Thanks for your reply.
Did you have KMS server? it seems that your PC connect to the wrong KMS server.
So check the VLMSC DNS record on the DNS server, if it is old or wrong, change it to be correct.
If it does not help, try to run slui.exe 4 to run phone activate to activate your PC.
Hope above information can help you.
