For a proper operation of any computer device (like modem, printer, video or sound card), the device driver must be installed. A device driver is a set of system files, developed by a device manufacturer. Many drivers, such as the keyboard driver, come with the operating system. These drivers are installed automatically during Windows setup or when a device is plugged in. For other devices, you may need to load a new driver from a device setup CD.

At device driver installation, driver files are copied from a specified location to system folders and get integrated into Windows. DriverExtractor can «reverse» the installation process by searching for all device driver files, retrieving them from Windows system folders and coping into a specified location.

Basically, DriverExtractor recovers a driver and creates a driver files folder, which can be later used to install this driver back into the system.

It has saved us hours everyday. Previously our guys spent at least an hour for every PC that came through painstakingly looking for drivers, across six guys and fifty computers a day that’s over fifty man hours a day which equates to real money saved!

Why using DriverExtractor?

How to use DriverExtractor

DriverExtractor is really simple to use. It looks similar to Windows Device Manager and provides fast access to all installed devices. The search and extraction of device drivers is performed with just a few mouse clicks. Command line interface for batch recovery is also available. Start Using InstalledDriversList

After running it, the main window of InstalledDriversList displays the list of all drivers installed on your system. You can select one or more items (or select all items with Ctrl+A), and then copy them to the clipboard (Ctrl+C) and paste them into Excel or other spreadsheet application. You can also use the ‘Save Selected Items’ option (Ctrl+S) to export the selected items into csv/tab-delimited/xml/html file.

Meaning of green/yellow/red icons

• Green Icon — The driver is running on Windows kernel.
• Yellow Icon — The driver is not running on Windows kernel.
• Red Icon — The driver is not running on Windows kernel, but it should be loaded automatically when Windows starts. When you see a red icon, it’s possible that something is wrong with the driver. Be aware that on Windows 8, there are 2 drivers of the operating system that are normally displayed with red icon.

Command-Line Options

/stext	Save the installed drivers list into a regular text file.
/stab	Save the installed drivers list into a tab-delimited text file.
/scomma	Save the installed drivers list into a comma-delimited text file (csv).
/stabular	Save the installed drivers list into a tabular text file.
/shtml	Save the installed drivers list into HTML file (Horizontal).
/sverhtml	Save the installed drivers list into HTML file (Vertical).
/sxml	Save the installed drivers list into XML file.
/sort	This command-line option can be used with other save options for sorting by the desired column. If you don’t specify this option, the list is sorted according to the last sort that you made from the user interface. The parameter can specify the column index (0 for the first column, 1 for the second column, and so on) or the name of the column, like «Display Name» and «Driver Name». You can specify the ‘

‘ prefix character (e.g: «

Visit Time») if you want to sort in descending order. You can put multiple /sort in the command-line if you want to sort by multiple columns.

Совершенно бессмысленная программа для тех, кто переустанавливает систему. В наше время, когда есть автоэкстракторы — тупо сидеть и вставлять в систему по одному драйверу. ну это верх извращения. Напомню для тех, кто не в курсе: драйвер можно выдернуть более продвинутыми прогами, которые сделают из них EXE-шники. Запускаешь их по очереди, и все.

Extracting Drivers from Disc

Soooo.. I clean-installed windows 7 ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite A130-ST1311 (old, I know). And it came with a recovery disk to reinstall windows vista. It has all the drivers I need, but I don’t want to install windows vista. (win vista came shipped with laptop).

Is there a way to extract the necessary drivers from that disk? Because some of the drivers are not anywhere on the Toshiba site (USB drivers to be specific). Plus the windows-provided drivers are no good.

Been searching around google for 3 days now, with no leads. Any form of help would be nice 🙂

You will need 2 tools to this. 7ZIP and Bulk Rename Utility (or other software that does the same)

Start 7zip and navigate to your vista dvd and browse to sources folder and double click install.wim

Open install.win you will see 13 folders ,open folder 1 ,DO NOT extract all of the folders in install.wim you will only fill up your hard drive.

Head to Folder called Windows

Then in the System32 browse for folders called Drivers and Drivestore

Extract only those folders. You will to need to rename all the files in folder en-US, renaming all these files one by one will take a long time so we need a application to bulk rename these.

Using Bulk Rename Utility browse to . \driverstore\en-US

Do notice that every file ends in .inf_loc you need to rename these to .inf

press ctrl and A to selcet all , then in the extension box select fixed and enter .inf ,hit the rename button and your done!

Now you can head to your device manager and update all the necessary drivers by simply choosing I have a disk option and browsing to the extracted Drivers.
