How to Update Firefox

Mozilla updates its Firefox web browser frequently, pushing down security fixes and new features that all of its users should enable. Therefore, it’s in your best interest to make sure your browser is set to automatically install these revisions.

If you find yourself unsure that Firefox has updated to the most recent version, you can also manually update within the browser. Here are instructions for how to update Firefox automatically and manually.

How to Enable Automatic Updates in Firefox

The below screenshots show the process on a system running Windows 7, but the same steps apply for Firefox on Windows 10 and Apple’s OS X.

1. Click the menu button in the top right corner.

2. Click Options. It’s called Preferences on OS X.

3. Click Advanced.

4. Click Update.

5. Turn on Automatically install updates.

6. Check the box next to «Use a background service to install updates.» This option isn’t available for Firefox on OS X.

You’ve set Firefox to automatically update.

How to Check Your Version and Manually Update Firefox

If you want to make sure you have the latest version of Firefox, here’s how to verify and manually update. These screenshots show the process on a system running Windows 10, but the same steps apply for Firefox on Windows 7 and OS X.

1. Click the menu button in the top right corner.

2. Click the Help button.

3. Select About Firefox.

4. Click Check for updates.

5. Click Update.

6. Click Restart Firefox to Update.

Как обновить браузер Firefox?

Существует 4 разных способа обновить веб-серфер Mozilla Firefox. Каждый пользователь выбирает подходящий вариант, исходя из личных предпочтений. Это может быть:

• ручное обновление;
• настройка автообновления;
• применение установщика обновлений;
• переустановка Firefox.

Ручное обновление

Автообновление

Чтобы не пропустить новые версии интернет-серфера и не отвлекаться на ручную загрузку, можно один раз настроить автоматическое обновление. Для этого необходимо вызвать меню, выбрать настройки, далее промотать вниз до пункта «Обновления Firefox», после чего кликнуть на раздел «Автоматически устанавливать обновления (рекомендуется)». Закрываете настройки и теперь ваш FireFox сам будет все делать за вас.

Установщик обновлений

Загрузить новую версию можно при помощи официального сайта. Для этого зайдите в основное меню, щелкните иконку «?», затем «Справка Firefox». После этого откроется страница официального сайта Mozilla Firefox, где нужно нажать на «Загрузить свежую копию». Далее запустите скачанный файл и браузер обновится.

Переустановка

Последний вариант подходит для тех случаев, когда первые три способа не срабатывают или возникают ошибки в работе программы. Полная переустановка Firefox избавит от ошибок, обеспечит пользователя последней версией браузера.

Шаги для переустановки:

1. Удаление браузера с компьютера. Для этого нужно открыть панель управления, выбрать «Программы и компоненты» или «Удаление программ». В списке необходимо отметить все программы, связанные с Mozilla Firefox и кликнуть по кнопке «Удалить».
2. Установка нового веб-навигатора. Зайдите на официальный сайт разработчика и нажмите на графическую ссылку «Загрузить Firefox». По окончании загрузки, установите файл.

How to download and install Firefox on Windows

This article explains how to download and install Firefox on Windows using a simplified online installer. (If you need a full, offline installer or custom options, see For advanced users, below.)

Before installing Firefox, see the Firefox System Requirements to make sure that your computer has the required operating system and recommended hardware.

Do not install Firefox using a limited Windows XP account. For more information, see Microsoft’s support article How to determine your user account type in Windows.

1. Visit this Firefox download page in any browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge.
2. Click the Download Now button. The Firefox Installer that downloads will automatically offer you the best available version of Firefox for your computer.
   • If you use Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer, a notification bar will appear at the bottom of the page with an option to open or run the Firefox Installer file.

   

   • Click Open file on Microsoft Edge or Run on Internet Explorer, to start the process.
   • In other browsers, you may need to first save the Firefox installer to your computer, then open the file you downloaded.
     Note: If you see an Open File — Security Warning dialog, click Open or Run .

   

3. The User Account Control dialog may open, to ask you to allow the Firefox Installer to make changes to your computer. If this dialog appears, click Yes to start the installation.
4. Wait for Firefox to finish installing.
5. When the installation is complete, Firefox will open.

Double-click the Firefox icon that was placed on the desktop whenever you want to go online.
