Ура-Ура-Ура! Firefox наконец-то позволяет убрать title bar

Огнелис становится всё быстрее и стильнее. Теперь в оформлении можно убрать пустую полосу заголовка, так называемый title bar и сделать компактный вид, как в Chrome: Меню (три горизонтальные черты в верхнем правом углу) — Персонализация. Левый нижний угол убираем галочку «заголовок». Нажимаем «Готово» и радуемся долгожданной фичи 🙂 Актуально с версии 60.

Долгожданной фичи, лол. Боюсь представить сколько шуму будет, когда Windows узнает о возможностях сэкономить title bar вообще во всех приложениях.

Не, это какое-то жалкое подобие. Не учитывает форму углов, не учитывает высоту заголовка, не знает о том, что кнопки могут быть не только справа. Вот в хромом с этим лучше, кроме стремной обводки окна.

Отключаем в WM отображение заголовков окон. Или делаем их тонкими. Вот пример второго с Xfce: Arch xfce

А, ну так я знаю. Это неудобно, т.к. исчезают (или еле видны) кнопки закрытия или скрытия окна.

1. С mate-maximus нет заголовка ни у одного максимизированного окна, любой программы. Не надо ждать, пока хозяин твоего зонда разрешит тебе пользоваться зондом без заголовка, добавив в зонд такую фичу.
2. marco (WM в MATE) крив и рисует рамки вокруг всех (немаксимизированных) окон, даже у Хромого и Файерфокс со снятой галкой.

Возможность скрыть нафиг не нужный и часто дублированный titlebar в почти любом линуксовом WM была сколько себя помню. Аналогично всегда было глобальное меню в Mac OS X.

Лет сколько, шесть? назад глобальное меню попало в Ubuntu Unity и стало чуть ли не мэйнстримом. Затем разрабы Unity пошли еще дальше, и запилили LIM — Locally Integrated Menus.

На сегодняшний день глобальное меню/недоLIM встроено в KDE в любом дистре, Athor пилит https://github.com/rilian-la-te/vala-panel-appmenu для XFCE/MATE/Budgie/. а Windows, как всегда, отстает по фичам рабочего стола на пару десятилетий.

Там есть 2 чекбокса: разворачивать по-умолчанию на весь экран и убирать заголовок у развёрнутых окон.

Снимаешь первую галку и ничего не разворачивается.

Remove Title Bar on Firefox for Linux (How to)

If you’re not a Mozilla Firefox user, you’re not a minority. It has been quite some time since any browser has really excited me enough to switch from Chrome. Considering the market share of all the desktop browsers, I’d assume that’s true for most people. Yet, when the Firefox Quantum update came out I decided to take Firefox for a ride. Of course, I didn’t yet switch but I do use Firefox from time to time. Firefox version 60 has just come out and while it brings some bold and controversial features, there’s one I am happy about. We can now remove the title bar on Firefox for Linux.

The biggest feature that has made and will continue to make more headlines is the Web Authentication API. It allows websites to implement ways that would allow the user to log in much easier and quicker. For now, this can be done with a device such as YubiKey. In the future, however, this has the potential to work with facial recognition, fingerprints and other security methods. This does not mean you won’t need passwords anymore, not in the foreseeable future at least. This is why I am not very excited about this yet, maybe in a year or five. This is still pretty big though because think about it. This essentially stops phishing scams altogether since you’re not entering your password into fake web pages. This is also coming to Google Chrome in an update this month and eventually to Microsoft Edge.

Firefox 60 also brings changes to the new tab page, Pocket sponsored stories, and enterprise customization. On Android, this update brings faster page rendering. Let’s get back to what we’re here for though, i.e., to remove title bar on firefox. This has been a feature on Google’s Chrome for years, even on Linux. On Firefox which is even pre-installed by default on many Linux distros, there’s a title bar drawn by the system above the tab space, like the system does with any app. This makes the interface use more space than it needs.

Compare that screenshot above to the one below with CSD enabled. Support for CSD, or Client-Side Decoration, is the new feature in Firefox 60. Just to make this clear, CSD is a Linux feature that allows an app (or “client”) to draw its own Window borders instead of using the system window borders. Firefox 60, simply brings support for this Linux feature.

How to Remove Title Bar on Firefox for Linux

1. Click on the hamburger menu icon in Firefox and select Customize.
2. At the bottom, uncheck the setting labeled Title Bar and poof! the Title Bar is immediately gone.

It’s not yet perfect though because it doesn’t look very natural. You probably can’t notice this in any of the screenshots above because of the white page background, but there’s a small white outline to the entire Window when you remove the title bar. Yes, I did switch back and forth between different themes and even the default ones. It’s not as visible with light themes but it’s there. You can see this in the screenshot below.

Despite the available extensions for older versions of Firefox, the latest doesn’t allow the install of extensions of a offer a technique to hide the title-bar of Firefox Browser. The title bar consumes space and I would like a method to remove it similar to the way it is removed in Chrome.

Hi iglicious, could you check the Customize tab? Look for a checkbox in the lower left corner for Title bar and see whether you can turn it off there:

If that doesn’t exist, you could try this approach (the preference that the checkbox controls):

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste title and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the browser.tabs.drawInTitlebar preference is currently false, double-click it to flip the value to true

I am confused by what you mean but you could follow images below and customize Firefox UI to your liking.

It’s great that the menu can now be displayed in the tab bar with tabs-on-top, but it would be even better if the titlebar itself could be hidden! I believe this is already the case on FF4/Windows 7. Maybe I have just not discovered how to turn on this feature?

You can hide the titlebar in a very easy way if you are using Compiz.

Just open CompizConfig preferences and find «Windows decoration» Now, in the line called «Decoration windows» type this: (any) & !(class=Firefox)

You can’t hide the title bar on Linux, that only works on Windows.

You can look at the Autohide extension: «Preview of the next version (Fx 4 only)»

Then this should be considered a feature request! (After all, if Chrome can do it on Linux. )

Will give the add-on a try, though it appears to only affect full screen mode where the title bar is hidden anyway?

You can use Autohide in zombie mode (Shift and F11) to remove the chrome (title bar) without going to full screen. You can click the More info button on the Autohide page.

Why don’t you add that addon to addons.mozilla.org?

I can hide the Firefox4’s titlebar under linux. First, you must install the extension named userChromeJS-1.3. URL:http://downloads.mozdev.org/userchromejs/userChromeJS-1.3.xpi

nice hack 🙂 Unfortunately, it’s a little extreme, as it also removes the possibility to resize, move, or minimize the window.

Something similar can be done in KDE (Configure Desktop -> Window Behaviour -> Window-Specific, and add a new setting for Window class «Firefox» there).

This of course also removes the minimize button. So if FF had a «minimize» button one could pull to the toolbar, one would have a decent workaround.

Excellent! There’s an add-on for everything.

Just to add for completeness, the built-in «fullscreen» button (should you need it and not just press F11 already) beats «maximize» any day anyway.

The following KDE Window settings only remove the title bar from the browser window, while leaving other windows opened by Firefox (e.g. dialogs like Preferences) intact.

The built-in FullScreen mode automatically Maximizes the browser window, where Autohide’s Zombie mode will give a «Full Screen» look without changing the size of the browser window that the user has set. For «political» reasons, I doubt of the developer of Autohide will ever have that extension anywhere except for his own website. I have been using Autohide for like 6 years now, the 2nd extension that always install in a new Profile; ChromEdit Plus is the 1st.

aelilea, I think I found the same rule for Gnome: (any) & !(class=Firefox & role=browser)
