How to Rotate and Flip Your Computer Screen
Have you ever wanted to watch videos in portrait mode? Or maybe you want to read your Twitter or Facebook feed in full screen. If you are a programmer, and you want to see your computer screen vertically, here’s how to flip or rotate a computer screen on a Windows 10 PC.
How to Rotate or Flip Your Screen on a Windows 10 PC
To rotate your screen on a Windows 10 PC, all you have to do is open the Windows search bar, type “rotate screen,” and click Open. Then click the Display Orientation drop-down menu and
- Click the magnifying glass icon in the bottom-left corner of your screen.
- Then type “rotate screen” in the search bar and click Open.
- Click the Display Orientation drop-down box and choose an option. You will see this option under Scale and layout.
Note: If you have multiple monitors, make sure you have selected the correct monitor at the top of the Display menu first. If you want to know more about how to set up dual monitors on your Windows 10 PC, check out our guide here.
You can choose between any of the following options:
- Landscape mode: Choosing this will rotate your screen to the default orientation.
- Portrait mode: Choosing this will rotate your screen 270 degrees, so your screen will be vertical.
- Landscape (flipped) mode: Choosing this will flip your screen upside-down or 180 degrees.
- Portrait (flipped) mode: Choosing this will rotate your screen 90 degrees, so it is vertical and upside-down.
How to Rotate Screen With Keyboard Shortcuts
You can rotate your Windows 10 PC screen with keyboard shortcuts. To rotate your screen, hit the Ctrl + Alt + right/left arrow keys at the same time. To flip your screen, hit the Ctrl + Alt + up/down arrow keys at the same time.
- Hold down and press the Ctrl + Alt + Up arrow. Holding down and pressing these keys will rotate your screen to its default position, which is the horizontal orientation.
- Hold down and press the Ctrl + Alt + Down arrow. This will flip your screen upside-down or 180 degrees.
- Hold down and press the Ctrl + Alt + Left arrow. This will rotate your screen 270 degrees.
- Hold down and press the Ctrl + Alt + Right arrow. This will rotate your screen 90 degrees.
If these shortcuts don’t work for you, right-click on your desktop and select Intel Graphics Settings. Then click Options and Support > Hot Key Manager. If you don’t see the screen rotation shortcuts, they are not available on your PC.

Windows 10
Windows 10
Intel».
AMD Catalyst Control Center».
- Влево — Ctrl+Alt + левая стрелка;
Вправо — Ctrl+Alt + правая стрелка;
Вверх — Ctrl+Alt + стрелка вверх;
Вниз — Ctrl+Alt + стрелка вниз;
How to Rotate Screen in Windows 10
Perhaps it happened when you plugged in or detached an external monitor. Maybe you just hit the wrong key somehow, but now your laptop’s screen is rotated, positioned in portrait mode while your screen is in landscape (horizontal) view. You can’t even read the text without tilting your head or turning your display on its side. Fortunately, there are a couple of ways to rotate the screen in Windows 10; these methods work in Windows 7, 8 and 10.
Rotate Screen with a Keyboard Shortcut
Hit CTRL + ALT + Up Arrow and your Windows desktop should return to landscape mode. You can rotate the screen to portrait or upside-down landscape, by hitting CTRL + ALT + Left Arrow, Right Arrow or Down arrow.
Rotate Screen with Display Settings Menu
If, for some reason, the shortcut keys don’t work (and they should), try this method.
1. Right click on the desktop and select Display settings.
2. Choose a screen to fix if you have multiple monitors attached. Skip this step if you have only one.
3. Select Landscape from the orientation menu.
4. Click Apply (or OK)
5. Click Keep Changes when prompted.
How to flip or rotate the screen on a Windows computer to fit your display
Because Windows 10 runs on devices with all sorts of form factors — from tablets and laptops to desktop monitors that physically rotate from landscape to portrait — Windows includes the ability to flip and rotate the screen to suit whatever display you’re using.
Whether you need to adjust the screen for a new device, or it’s «stuck» in the wrong orientation and displaying everything sideways, you can flip the display to suit your needs.
This technique works in every modern version of Windows, from Windows 7 through Windows 10.

How to flip or rotate the screen on a Windows computer
1. Right-click the Windows desktop (on a blank space where there’s no open program window) and click «Display Settings» in the pop-up menu.
2. On the Display page, if you have more than one monitor installed, choose the display you need to rotate.
3. Click the orientation drop-down and choose the rotation you need. You can choose Landscape, Portrait, Landscape (Flipped) or Portrait (Flipped).
4. If you accidentally choose the wrong one, press the Escape key to revert to the way it was before. If you like the change, click «Keep Changes.»
Another way to open the Display Settings is to click the Start button, click the Settings icon, and then choose «System.»
In some versions of Windows, you can flip the screen with keyboard shortcuts as well. The latest version of Windows 10 has disabled these shortcuts, but if you still use an older version of Windows, here are your options:
- CTRL + ALT + Up Arrow changes to Landscape mode.
- CTRL + ALT + Down Arrow changes to Landscape (Flipped) mode.
- CTRL + ALT + Left Arrow changes to Portrait mode.
- CTRL + ALT + Right Arrow changes to Portrait (Flipped) mode.
How to I flip my screen both Horizontally and Vertically
I am trying to use one of my screens in a teleprompter. I see that there is an option is display settings to flip by screen horizontally or vertically but not both at the same time. When I search I see the TelePrompter App but that is when you want to display the script within Telepromoter but I want to display PowerPoint or my team’s video streams using Teams.
How can I flip my screen both horizontally and vertically at the same time to use within a teleprompter?

Hi EricShepherd
are you sure you want to flip both ways, that would be the same as rotating through 180 degrees.
try flipping horizontal then rotate it by 180 degrees (ctrl+alt+down arrow)

I could well be being stupid here. It’s a personality trait of mine!
I need the mirror image of the screen. This means that the type needs to be back to front. I have attached an image to help you understand my challenge. I am not looking to rotate the screen but flip it so that the text can be read in a mirror.

«I could well be being stupid here.» — not at all, unless we both are 🙂
there is often a confusion between flip and rotate, a flip will give a mirror image of the monitor, rotate spins it around the centre point.
you mentioned you had a method to flip (mirror) the monitor, you then only need to rotate the image so that when it is seen in the teleprompter mirror it is correct.
if you do not have a method to flip the display,
ultramon will provide this option, unfortunately it is not free but does provide a 30 day trial

if the content is web based (and you have edge chromium) you could try the following google chrome extension (works in google chrome too)
open edge chromium, click the ellipsis(. ) and select extensions
at the bottom of the left panel, turn on «allow extensions from other stores»
then get this extension from google
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mirro.
click the «add to chrome» button
it should then add to edge chromium
if you don’t have the new edge chromium you can get it from
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge
(it will replace the current version of edge)
hope that makes sense, please let me know how you get on
