Creating folders in Windows Mail

Hi Judith. I’m Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Guardian Moderator here to help you.
In Mail app, click on the account you want on the left hand pane, then on Folders, in the foldout menu do you see All Folders with a + sign next to it there?
If not What often works is to go to Windows 10 Mail Settings (gear icon at bottom of Inbox) then Manage Accounts, then choose the problem account(s), then Delete the Account.
Restart PC and retrace that path to add the account back. Make sure the Sync settings are as desired for how far back you want mail Downloaded from, whether to include Calendar and Contacts (People app). See this setup guide to make sure you get everything set as you like: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-get-started-.
If that’s not enough then Reset the Mail app at Settings > Apps and Features > Mail & Calendar > Advanced Options > Reset. Restart PC.
Finally if nothing else works reinstall the Mail and Calendar app from Option Two here: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3175-apps-re.
If you have broader performance problems go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.
Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.
If nothing else helps then run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This solves many problems and will also bring it up to the latest version which you need anyway and by the most stable method. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it’s resolved.

Storage Folder for Win10 Mail App
I am using my official rediffmailpro pop account in windows 10 mail app.
Where do i find the email storage folder so that i can backup the same just like we do the pst files?
Also how do i import my existing outlook2016 pst file in windows 10 mail app?
Replies (3)
We are sorry but there is no way to import the .PST file to Windows mail app. You can do so only using .CSV which will only configure your contacts. However, you can add another account to your mail app and access emails.
In line with your concern in exporting emails from the Windows 10 Mail app, the option to export emails is not yet available. As a workaround, you may try to make a copy of the emails before the Mail app sync online mail account deletes the emails. You may refer to the steps below:
- Navigate to the following location: C:\Users\Username\Appdata\Local\packages\microsoft.Windowscommunicationsapps\Localstate\Indexed\Livecomm\any folder name\any folder name\mail (C:\ being the drive where Windows is installed).
- The app data folder in the above said location is a hidden folder. If you are unable to view, change the view options to Show hidden files and folders and check.
- You will see many folders for each folder in the mail folder (e.g. Inbox, Sent, Drafts), open these folders and locate the folders that contains the emails.
- Copy and paste the email files in the desired location. You will be able to open these files using any email applications.

Finding the Windows Mail Store Folder
Locate the POP3 email store folder on your computer
You can see your Windows Mail emails in your Mail inbox and other folders, but these messages also live somewhere else on your drive. Locating the folder where Windows Mail keeps its folders and messages is not immediately apparent. Still, it’s not difficult to find if you use the POP3 protocol. After you locate the folder, you can back up your email.
Identify Your Windows Mail Store Folder Location
The Windows Mail store folder can only be located if you use POP3 with Windows Mail. POP3 is designed to save .eml files on your computer. If you use IMAP with Windows Mail, the mail isn’t downloaded and stored as .eml files, so you can’t back up email in this manner.
To find the Windows Mail store folder:
In Windows Mail, select Tools > Options from the menu.
Go to the Advanced tab and select Maintenance.
Click the Store Folder button.
Highlight the full folder location by clicking the location with the right mouse button and choosing Select All from the pop-up menu.
Press Ctrl+C to copy the string.
Open the Windows Mail Store Folder in Windows Explorer
Now that you have the path to your Windows Mail store folder in the clipboard, it’s easy to go to that folder in Windows Explorer.
Press Windows+R.
Press Ctrl+V to paste the folder location in the Open box.
Click OK to open the store folder in a Windows Explorer window.
After you open the store folder, go back to Windows Mail and close the Store Location and Options dialogs with the Cancel buttons and close the Maintenance dialog using Close.
If You Can’t Launch Windows Mail
If you can’t launch Windows Mail to identify the store folder in use, follow these steps:
Look in this standard location: C:\Users\AppData\Local\Packages\ and open the folder \LocalState\Indexed\LiveComm. If you don’t find the store folder there, try C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail.
Locate the Mail folder and open it to see the .eml files inside.
Creating Folders in Windows Mail
I have repeatedly followed the instructions previously offered on this forum as to how folders can be created in Windows Mail App. However, no + sign appears next to ‘All Folders’ after I click my account then click ‘More’.
Why is there no + sign?
Also, it seems that there is no way to get this App to collect emails on demand, and I have therefore just had to wait around for ages to get the security code for doing the Microsoft questionnaire on this site!
I am very new to Windows 10, and not impressed with this ‘App’ — whatever an ‘App’ is.

Hello, I’m Virginia an independent advisor with 20 years of expertise in fixing my own & friends’ PC problems.
Which Windows 10 build are you running — 1903, 1909 or 2004?
Windows Mail app is very basic so may not offer certain features.
I’ve noticed that upon opening the Mail app I have to click on the sync icon to receive emails, whereas Windows Live Mail will sync upon opening.
Which account are you trying to add a folder to? Have you logged in to webmail version & checked to see if you can add a folder there?
Is the account using pop or imap?
App refers to an Application — imo a program.

Hello, I’m Virginia an independent advisor with 20 years of expertise in fixing my own & friends’ PC problems.

I installed it this Tuesday, then it updated. ‘This PC’ does not give information on the version.
Windows Mail app is very basic so may not offer certain features.
I’ve noticed that upon opening the Mail app I have to click on the sync icon to receive emails, whereas Windows Live Mail will sync upon opening.
Windows Mail app may well be too basic for me. I did not try ‘sync’ because I didn’t realize it would trigger email download — and I actually don’t want it to sync with other devices.
Which account are you trying to add a folder to? Have you logged in to webmail version & checked to see if you can add a folder there?
I am just experimenting with one account at the moment. Unable to export emails from the client I had before Windows 10, I forwarded hundreds of older emails to myself so I could pick them up in whatever I set up in. I urgently need a folder system!
Interesting you mention Windows Live Mail: until a few years ago, I had that, and loved it. I thought it was fast, efficient, elegant and a joy to use — compared to the adequate Outlook Express which I had had previously. I have historic emails, valuable to me, saved in Windows Live Mail file type, and, would like to re-install them in something so I have access to them. But I seem to be too late for Windows Live Mail, and recent reviews of it are poor.
Is the account using pop or imap?

I wish people could be bothered to say ‘application’! I’ve only just stopped cringing and saying ‘I hate that word’ every time someone says ‘app’! The term seems to be evolving rapidly and taking over. Do you mean that people actually say ‘imo’ instead of program? — Strange at a time when English is getting so long-winded in other ways — eg: ‘on a daily basis’ instead of just ‘daily’ !

The more I research windows 10 mail, the more I hate it ! I used Windows Live Mail with my TWC.com account, and I used email address groups, which you cannot do in windows 10. I created many folders, which you cannot do in windows 10. I am learning every day new and different ways to hate it .
