Full user name windows

Get current logged in user name command line (CMD)

In Windows OS, we can find the current logged in username from windows command line. The logged in user information is stored in environment variables. So just by printing the value in these environment variables we can get to know the login name.

To know the login name of the currently logged in user we can run the below command.

This works on all releases of Windows OS(Windows XP, Server 2003, Windows Vista and Windows 7).

There is another command whoami which tells us the domain name also.

Both of these options to find user name can be useful in batch files to write code in such a way that it works for every user. For example, if your batch file need to access a user specific folder, say Application data, then you can refer the directory as ‘C:\users\%username%\appdata‘.

how to know the current user password in windows 7?

run cmd in admin mode and type net user (user name) (12345)
then your password change to 12345

Use this command:
net user “%username%” “%random%%random%%random%%random%%random%”

Suggestion to use command:
net user “%username%” “%random%%random%%random%%random%%random%”
will change your current users password to something completely random

I don’t think it would be possible to find the password as it is stored in encrypted form and not in plain text. However, there are lots of third party tools to reset a administrator password if you have forgotten the same.

when i go onto command promt it says my username is “user” and say c:/users>user

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. HAVE YOU SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM YET?

The whoami command does not work in Windows XP without the SP2 Support Tools download. The command is not native to the OS. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=18546

Can the %username% command be used to determine the user logged into a differnent computer. ex I am at computer x and want to know who is logged on to computer y. I can remote to the c drive using RDP \\computery\c$ I would also like to definively likt to know who is logged on to that computer. Possible?

No, it does not work that way. %username% always shows the user of the current login session. When you run it on remote computer, I am not sure what you would get but it won’t tell you who logged on to the machine.

You can use PSEXEC to run a command on another PC. It can be found in the PS Tools package available for download on many sites.

With System Internal tools (free http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897545.aspx )
psloggedon \\targetComputer
or
psloggedon \\192.167.0.0

Is it possible to get current User Name when it’s an AD where each user has an ID?
For example, if I run whoami or %username% I get “XX00000” but I want to get “Name SecondName”. I know windows has this info because I see my full name in Start Menu (Win 7).
Thanks

net user %username% for accounts stored in local or net user %username% /domain for accounts stored on domain.

If you are asking to find the full name or Surname run this as administrator.
net user
It will show you all the information about that user, full name, logon time, the group this user belongs to, the time it is allowed to login all of that.

I would like to ask if you are using Microsoft account or Local account.

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it helps.

Method 1: Please follow the steps to rename the user account.

  1. In the search box, type user accounts and click on User Accounts.
  2. Click on “Change your account name
  3. If it’s prompting for password please enter and click on Yes. If you do not have password click on Yes.
  4. Enter the new user name.
  5. Click on change name.

Method 2:

Note: Before you start, please back up all you data and create a system restore point first.

  1. Press Windows Key + R combination and then type netplwiz in the Run dialog box. Click OK. If prompted for UAC, click Yes.
  2. Now in the User Accounts window, check Users must enter a user name and password to enter this computer, if it is unchecked.
  3. In the User Name section, select the user name to which you want to change the name and click Properties.
  4. In the Properties window, in the User name field, provide the desired user name. Then click Apply followed by OK.
  5. Reboot to see the change.

Change User Folder name: Even after you change the username using this method, your personal folder will continue to display the old username. To rename the user folder, do the following.

  1. Create a system restore point first. Then open Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

2. You will find several folders here like S-1-5-. Search through them till you find a ProfileImagePath pointing to your old username. Double-click on it and replace your old username with your new username.

3. Restart your computer to see the change.

Disclaimer:

Important: The System Restore restores the computer back to an earlier point in time, called a restore point. System Restore doesn’t change your personal files, but it might remove recently installed apps and drivers and also reset the recently changed settings on the computer.

By changing the Microsoft account, will not change the username. Whatever the name you give when you install Windows it will save the same name. Only Clean installation of Windows will change the username on username folder.

Excuse me for the delay.

this is how to do

1. open Settings app and go Accounts then Your account and you click on Sign in with a local account instead. After you enter your password, the next window will allow you change the username of your account (but not the user folder). write the username (Hashim). it’s useless to add a password.

2. Open Registry editor. you can open usingRUN. Press Windows+R. in the box, type regedit then press enter. Registry editor will be open.

3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

4. Expand theProfileList folder. you will see many folder. To know what folder belongs to your profile, you should click down key (directions key) on the keyboard or click on each of those folder and see what’s in the right side. The folder that belongs to you will show the path of your user folder as indicated in the screenshot below. in your’s, you’ll see C:\users\Hashi

5. Double-click onProfileImagePath and clear your name (in the image above, «youssouf») and replace it by the name you want. it should now be C:\users\Hashim

6. Press ok and close the window. After you have closed the windows, go to C:\users\ and verify that your user folder name is changed to which you want. if not, you may need to restart you computer to apply.

7. Go back toSettings app -> Accounts->your account and switch back to Microsoft account and it’s finished.

How to change user name in windows 7 professional?

I recently installed windows 7 professional and by accident I mistyped my computer and user name when it prompted me to type it in. When I had typed the wrong characters in and hit ‘Next’, it wouldn’t let me go back to change it so I was stuck with an unwanted computer/user name. I managed to change the computer name to the desired word, but I still didn’t know how to change my user name.

I went into User Accounts and there was an option to change account name, so I did that.
However, none of my directories changed name, and all the processes in task manager were still running under the same previous user name, which I didn’t want it to be.

Is there a way to change the user name of an account so it affects all directories, files, folders, etc. without creating a new account in that name? Or if possible, copy all current account preferences and files to another account with that desired name?

Any help is appreciated.

You cannot change a user account by just changing the name. Just changing the name will make a cosmetic change only and not affect the underlying files/folders in the profile.

1. From an account with administrative privileges, go to Control Panel>User Accounts and create the new Standard user account named the way you want and at least one extra Administrator account. Call the latter «CompAdmin» or «Tech» or the like.
2. Log into the new Standard user account once so the profile files/folders are created and then log into CompAdmin.
3. Now go to Control Panel>System>Advanced>User Profiles>Settings
4. You will see where you can copy user accounts. Copy the old account to the new one from there. Use the Browse to select your new account (C:\Users\newaccount).
5. Log into the new correctly named account and make sure all your stuff is there and that it works the way you want. When you are satisfied, you can log out and into CompAdmin and delete the old user account from Control Panel>User Accounts.

If you wish to log into your new, corrected account automatically, do this:

Start Orb>Search box>type: netplwiz [enter]
Click on Continue (or supply an administrator’s password) when prompted by UAC

Uncheck the option «Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer». Select a user account to automatically log on by clicking on the desired account to highlight it and then hit OK. Enter the correct password for that user account (if there is one) when prompted. Leave it blank if there is no password (null).

General Recommendations for Setting Up User Accounts

You absolutely do not want to have only one user account. Like XP, Vista and all other modern operating systems, Windows 7 is a multi-user operating system with built-in system accounts such as Administrator, Default, All Users, and Guest. These accounts should be left alone as they are part of the operating system structure.

You particularly don’t want only one user account with administrative privileges on Windows 7 because the built-in Administrator account (normally only used in emergencies) is disabled by default. If you’re running as Administrator for your daily work and that account gets corrupted, things will be Difficult. It isn’t impossible to activate the built-in Administrator to rescue things, but it will require third-party tools and working outside the operating system.

The user account that is for your daily work should be a Standard user, with the extra administrative user (call it something like «CompAdmin» or «Tech» or the like) only there for elevation purposes. After you create «CompAdmin», log into it and change your regular user account to Standard. Then log back into your regular account.

If you want to go directly to the Desktop and skip the Welcome Screen with the icons of user accounts, you can do this by following the instructions written in the first part of this post.
