Fusion 360 wine linux

Contains a script that makes the Fusion 360 installer install in Linux using wine This is based on the information from: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=36468&iTestingId=104527

The script downloads the installer and uses a correct version of platform.py for the installation process.

Note: This file does not modify any parts of the application itself.

Preparations: Install 64 Bit Version of Wine. I tested it with Wine 4.3.

Set machine as Windows 7 or newer (tested only with Win7):

Install vcrun2017 and then reset the Windows release, because winetricks sets it as Windows XP:

Disable the d3d11 library completely:

Usage:

You can choose optional the target directory within the current working directory and make the output a little bit verbose. $ ./PatchFusion360Installer.sh

You are now able to execute the patched installer from the output directory. Note: You have to manually clean up this temporary directory.

After starting streamer.exe with wine you may look at the installers log files to verify that installation is going on by e.g.

Notes: If you don’t see the graphic canvas in Fusion 360 you might change Direct3D to version 9. Fusion 360’s Preferences -> General -> Graphics driver and set it to DirectX 9 explicitly (instead of the default ‘Auto-select’)

Fusion-360—Linux-Wine-Version-‘s Introduction

Fusion 360 is a cloud-based 3D modeling, CAD, CAM, and PCB software platform for product design and manufacturing, what you can use on Windows and macOS.

But the problem is that there are also people like me who don’t want to use either of these two operating systems on there systems. Then these users have installed a Linux distribution such as openSUSE Leap, Ubuntu or Fedora.

And so I got the idea to start this project here to find a way to solve this problem.

I started looking at different tools and my choice was Wine!

With this nice tool we don’t need longer two operating systems for Fusion 360, when we will create a fantastic project in the future or if you want to work on a project with other people.

Is that a great idea for the future?

Personally, I think this idea is good and for this reason I will do my best to give you the opportunity to use it on Linux as well!

There are some script releases available, built from the release targets.

It’s recommended that if you’re new you start with the stable builds. Development builds are available here if you need it, but correspondingly may be less stable.

Need a feature: install in another folder. solved

Hey. It would be great if i can install fusion360 not in my home folder. I can do it by hands, but’s its difficult to change all that paths in your script. My home folder is low on free space, and I connected another SSD, but your script can only install fusion 360 and winetricks in my home folder. It would be great if i can install fusion360 and winetrikcs in another dir.

Some problems with Fusion 360 when I use XWayland! solved

If you use Wine on a system with XWayland, then you can activate the option for «Emulating a virtual desktop» in the Graphics Tab in winecfg for to avoid these problems here:

Calculation (local) on your system dosn’t work at the moment! (Simulation — Create a Study) solved

At the moment you can only create a Study, when you calculating your Study with the Cloud-Option!
But I know this is a problem by wine and so testing different ways to solved this problem for the future. 🙂

Question: flatpak vs normal wine / performance

Hi,
i Tried to work with fusion 360 in wine, but the performance is so bad. Is this related to my system or as a matter of wine itselfe.if i try to launch it..it takes up to 3 minutes. And actions within Fusion take realy long too.
Would it run better in flatpak?
Or what would be the benefit oft flatpak vs pure wine?

Are there any performance tweeks i could usw in my System?

Unimplemented function in msvcp140_1.dll solved

When I attempted to run the program, the loading screen appears before it crashes with this message in the terminal: wine: Call from 000000007B01229E to unimplemented function msvcp140_1.dll._Aligned_get_default_resource, aborting .

All methods that I have tried installing fusion 360 have resulted in a crash at this step.

On fedora 34 it loads but I get a popup saying sign in failed contact support

Failing to launch Fusion on Arch Linux solved

Well, I kinda gave up. I tried to get Fusion360 running on my Arch Linux system, but I end up on the crash report screen only. While the command line output seems entirely different from #37, I followed the advice linked there anyway (it is Arch nevertheless, so might as well try). To be more precise: I did add and play around with the d3d10core, d3d11, d3d9, dxgi settings without success.

Any advice on how to get any further than that is greatly appreciated. I am happy to provide more details, or try out new stuff, if I can help to get Fusion running on Arch-Linux.

Can’t synchronize with cloud solved

I really wanna start by thank you, because this is the closest I’ve been to making fusion 360 work on Linux. I am on gnome wayland on Garuda Linux (a fork of Arch) and for some reason in the left panel (where the projects are usually in) there’s a label that says «Having difficulty establishing a connection. We’ll keep trying.». I can’t continue working offline, because it says that first it needs to connect to the cloud. I had no problem logging in, so in theory it can connect to Internet.
Any tip would be a huge help

Completely uninstalling the package solved

I’d like to completely uninstall Fusion360 and reinstall it for troubleshooting. Do you have the locations of the binaries and other related files to delete them? Thanks

Force Closes: Offline AND Online Error solved

Hello. Many thanks for this workaround, highly appreciated. So far I got Fusion 360 opening, but it closes again with the initial error message that it cannot work offline (something like no data or storage available, although my 256GB disk is almost completely free) and it will try to connect to the internet. Thereafter I get the error that it could not connect to the internet either and the application closes. Using latest Pop!_OS. Thank you!

stopped working after updating Ubuntu solved

Installed and previously working Fusion stopped working after updating Ubuntu. Previously, it did not start for me if I selected nvidia-driver-460, but it worked with nvidia-driver-450. Now I can’t go back to this version. And Fusion displays a bug report window after authorization.

Unclean shutdown, crashes on exit

Hello, I’m not sure if anybody else has this same problem. However when i close Fusion, it will always crash during the exit. Here is an example:

And sometimes i get the same error during launch process. It will say double free tache2.

IDK why it happens to me. Please let me know if you also have same issue. For the time being, I manually run the following command to kill process afterwards:

however even after doing that, there is still some remaining wine .exe processes in background that is accumulating. After every restart:

so clearly it would be better to know how to exit cleanly without crashing. If there is some workaround IDK.

The install script simply won’t launch solved

For some odd reason when I launch the script it does nothing. No welcome screen or anything like that. I did run chmod +x fusion360-install.sh and yet it decided not to run. I am using Manjaro on the 5.10.53-1-MANJARO kernel.

Hi, spent around an hour trying to figure out why your script wasn’t working, turns out it was my distro’s fault (Kubuntu) because it didn’t have the package «dialog» installed, you may want to put a note about that in the README or add a check in the script.

I’m having trouble with the installation script, and one of the things I had to do to get things moving along was to install winbind.

I am running Ubuntu 20.04

sudo apt-get install winbind

Latest installer use Python3.7 solved

Hello, I just downloaded a Fusion 360 installer and it seems to use python 3.7 so fix with downloading platform.py
is not working or need a change.

Ubuntu 18.04, ASUS G73S, msvcp140.dll, ContentService.dll, no start. solved

Install barfed up /massive/ numbers of fixme’s but no errors or fails and it said the install finished. I can, if needed, attach the log. System info is below.

When I try to start:

Now, we dosn’t need this step anymore, because every Linux distribution uses a newer Python version now and so I think it’s also important to check also a newer Python version with Autodesk Fusion 360 here on Linux. 🙂

fusion360 fails to launch when using fusion360-start.sh solved

I just attempted to install and run fusion for the first time on my ASUS Q550L running Ubuntu 20.04.

After running the install script i attempted to run the start script, see terminal output below. After the first failed attempt i used ctrl-c to cancel and retried.

Fusion360 does not launch on manjaro solved

Fusion 360 installs without any problem, but it refuses to launch, I tried to give the script sudo priviliges but that didn’t work either. I’ve attached the log below.

Suggestion for install attempts without re-downloading solved

It’s taking several attempts with the script to get an install going (still not actually there).
Every time I run the script, it re-downloads many files, including the 1Gb application.

Could the download scripts use wget -c rather than just wget, so that if the file is already there, it is not re-fetched.

Perhaps a —force-redownload switch is necessary to override this, or the downloading of a single md5sum file indicating the latest issue checksums.

The system is opensuse Leap 15.2 the script work fine but not start.

Broken installation in russian locale solved

Try to start after installation and get message box «Путь не найден» (Path is not found).
Run scripts with LANG=en_US.utf8 is workaround this issue.

P.S.
In fusion360-start.sh instead «. /$HOME/$USER/.fusion360. » there should be «. /$HOME/.fusion360. «. $HOME already contains user name.

A lot of wine-3d errors and crash on splash screen solved

I tried to start Fusion on Linux Mint 20 and encountered a lot of wine3d errors and Autodesk Crash Report Prompt showed up on splashscreen. Please help!

When I run ./fusion360-flatpak-install.sh it says in the midle smewhere:

and then it complains with:

I have Ubuntu 21.04 Wayland with Intel® Core™ i7-8650U CPU @ 1.90GHz × 8
and Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 620 (KBL GT2).

Fusion launchs with toolbars always on top

Increase allocated resources? solved

Right now fusion works fine, but it sometimes can feel sluggish and I think that’s because it doesn’t use much RAM or system resources. Is there a way to increase that?

Crashes on splash screen solved

OpenSuSE 15.3 on a new computer with a fresh install of WINE 6.12 from the Emulators repo.

Install completes without issue but on launch it sits on the initial splash screen for a few minutes and then crashes.

Also tried rsync ing the drive_c and .reg files from a working wineprefix on another machine. This one gets to the login screen, but then refuses to actually accept/draw any typed characters.
This other code has a different ProgramData folder install so I am wondering if Autodesk published an update that no longer works. I’ll see if I can locate the same installer used on the other machine and install from that instead.

Fusion 360 doesn’t connect with cloud solved

Great work making fusion work on linux!
I installed it on Debian 11 and it worked right out of the box. Now i have installed it on Ubuntu 21.04.
It seems to be some problem refreshing online files now, i manage to log in.

I have checked that i do have all the DLL’s, and i manage to ping if i run wine cmd ping etc.

As title says, this is not an issue.

I got Fusion360 working on Void Linux and I’ve documented every step in my gist. If you think this could be added to your script, I’ll be really glad 😄

I’ve also tried Vulkan as renderer with dxvk but sadly with no luck. OpenGL seems the only one that works right now.

Manjaro Install solved

Thank you so much for the work you’ve put into making this happen. I just ran through your install instructions and it works! I was able to get Fusion 360 up and running and I opened a model for some testing.

The graphics were very distracting with a flash every time I clicked in the 3D space. I opened a sketch and started clicking around and found the same problems. Overall, everything is a bit sluggish as well. For now, my current KVM solution is a bit faster and smoother.

I saw that you referenced an article from Proton. Is is possible to use Proton to run Fusion 360? Being that it was developed for high FPS gaming, I imagine Proton might work well for a 3D CAD program.

When you get maybe this error:

. then you must delete your WINEPREFIX folder and install Autodesk Fusion 360 again. OR
. delete the winetricks file and download this file again.

This mistake can happen. 😉

How to apply OpenGL setting before 1st launch solved

Hey again @cryinkfly
I noticed that you tried to append an -opengl cmdline flag to the wine command, or to windows shortcut .lnk . However that did not work for me.

So yesterday Beyond Compare to folder diff the whole C drive. After changing the OpenGL option in preferences. And found out how to do this.

Here the linux commands, to just copy-paste into your linux terminal. This will create initial settings file on disk, before doing 1st launch, 1st login. We can already set the opengl graphics mode.

so long as the $WINEPREFIX environment variable is set, and the $USER is not using sudo. Then wine and fusion predictably always use the same file location.

I have tested it this morning from a clean install. And without ever installing dxvk (at all). So then the before command for winetricks (minimum dependancies) is.

And also, with no dxvk whatsoever. then step

19.) Run this command: winecfg -> Go to libraries -> Change these options:

is not needed anymore either.

I do not know what is the difference for performance. Because my graphics is GT1030, which is rather too slow to notice faster or slower. But it seems the same?

Also I still have the other bug here, without any dxvk the floating browser menus, always ontop in foreground.

Linux Mint 20.2 Support solved

Is linux mint 20.2 supported? I get an error during install about the wine-staging package, it’s version references hirsute, so it’s looking for the ubuntu version.

Thanks for putting this together. Can you fix this line? There’s a lot of extra spaces and it’s unclear what should be in quotation marks and what shouldn’t. Using a codeblock for the actual command that should be entered into the terminal should help clear this up.

Installation fails on Arch: Multilib is not enabled by default solved

The install-script (https://github.com/cryinkfly/Fusion-360—Linux-Wine-Version-/blob/main/scripts/fusion360-install.sh) will fail on Arch linux by default, since it can’t install wine. Wine is available in the multilib, which is not included by default. It will still display The installation of Autodesk Fusion 360 is completed .

I suggest to include a check, if multilib is enabled. If it is not, you may ask the user to to un-comment the corresponding entry

in /etc/pacman.conf and update (e.g. pacman -Sy ).

Drawing Workbench dosn’t work solved

Trying to create Drawing of some and get error message:
Fusion 360 drawings cannot launch.

«ContentService.dll» failed to initialize solved

I’ve just installed Fusion360 with the fusion360-install.sh script on my Lenovo T460s with a freshly deployed Ubuntu 20.04 (not sure yet if this laptop will be powerful enough for Fusion360, but I want to give it a try. Up to now, I am using a Dell laptop with similar specs with Windows 10 for Fusion360 and it works pretty well). But unfortunately when I try to start the application, it fails with:

I do not have any experience with WINE, so any help is greatly appreciated!

Force OpenGL mode in Autodesk Fusion 360

Some games might have an OpenGL mode which may perform better than their default DirectX mode. While the steps to enable OpenGL rendering is application specific, many games accept the -opengl parameter. (https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/wine#Force_OpenGL_mode_in_games)

I have checked Autodesk Fusion 360 with this OpenGL mode and it feels like so, that the program is running faster on my systems!

sha256 Mismatch Returns solved

If You have a problem like this one:

warning: sha256sum mismatch! Rename /home//.cache/winetricks/vcrun2019/vc_redist.x86.exe and try again.

Then you must check if you have the newest winetricks version!

Then there is still a way to force the installation of for example vcrun2019 and thus the sha256sum check is skipped!*

/ .fusion360 sh winetricks —force vcrun2019

But better is when You check before if You have the latest version of winetricks .

Then it’s so, that some of these packages get over the time a new link and sha256sum.

The advantage is that You can also use the —force option if You have the problem that You previously installed vcrun2017 and now You want to install vcrun2019, but it does not work!
