Big Galileo Viewer on Mac!

This terrific app allows you to view Galileo Sociology Research data.

The Galileo System is a suite of software for Social Science research written by my mentor Rick Holmes and further developed by the author of this App, from 1981-1986 on the Univac 1100 mainframe at SUNY Albany and the IBM 3084 mainframe at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in New York, for Dr Joseph Woelfel. Galileo software works with the numerical relationships between words and phrases relating to a particular subject to show a rich multidimensional space that expresses a population’s attitudes towards that subject. The subject in the sample data for the app shows people’s attitudes towards animals. The animals that are close together in the 3D map were reported to be close together numerically by the population. The animals that are far apart in the 3D map were reported to be far apart numerically. The author is one of the developers of several components of the original Galileo software as well as the software framework that allows researchers to perform the full project lifecycle of Galileo social science research, from free-form text analysis to extract relevant concepts to gathering relationships between the concepts to display of resultant data.

Your professor will put the Galileo data (or other compatible data) on the web site and you will be able to view it in 3D with this App. If you have data in the form of a file, load it into the app and view it as well. If you just want to explore the Galileo data experience, use the sample data provided.

Enter the URL where the data set is located and the app will read it!

The datasets you will view are Galileo Coordinates in their original 80 character per record format. Please consult your professor if you are unable to view the data.

Description

Many OpenGL extensions, as well as extensions to related APIs like GLU, GLX, and WGL, have been defined by vendors and groups of vendors. The extension registry is maintained by SGI and contains specifications for all known extensions, written as modifications to the appropriate specification documents.

The registry also defines naming conventions, guidelines for creating new extensions and writing suitable extension specifications, and other related documentation.

This program displays the vendor name, the version implemented, the renderer name and the extensions of the current OpenGL 3D accelerator.

Supports OpenGL 1.1 to 2.1 and OpenGL 4.1 or superior for macOS 10.9 and superior, including Apple Metal information.

Terrific Tool

Apple has a fantastic OpenGL implementation and this is a terrific way to compare features of graphics cards. In theory, I should be able to compare the features between Intel HD Graphics and the NVidia chip in the Retina MBP, but not sure why Intel is not listed. Still, I’m really new to the Retina model.

It works now! I just wish it worked better.

I figure I need to write a new review, because the latest version (4.0.8) actually works for me! Great update.

Now, the app itself: there’s a lot of data here, but it’s not the easiest to use. For example, at the bottom of the «Extensions» tab, there’s a round search box, like you’d normally find at the top of a window. Typing in there searches the list of extensions, but it’s pretty slow. There’s also a (misaligned) «Search» button next to this, and when I click it, it switches to my web browser and seems to open a new tab for each extension shown in the list (in my case, about 100). Yikes! I did not expect that. This is not an isolated case: I found myself saying «I did not expect that» a lot.

The screenshots show OS X 10.6, and that’s probably what it was tested against. Not everything looks so great on 10.7+. For example, you can only see 2 pixels width of the scrollbars on the «Extensions» tab. Nothing is completely broken, but it does seem somewhat unfinished.

If you can figure out how to use it, there’s a fantastic amount of data in here. Unfortunately, it’s not very intuitive, and the documentation is almost nonexistant.

Cannot uninstall or remove this software

This software was installed my accident on my Macbook Pro, and is now impossible to remove. Every time I drag this app from the Applications folder to the Trash and empty the Trash, it replaces itself with another copy. It also always needs to update. I have installed version 4.25 at least 30 times now. Every time I turn on my computer, I get a push notification from the App Store stating that the “update installed successfully”, even after I have removed this app from my machine. The developers have not responded to my emails asking for further assistence to remove this application, so the only conclusion I can come to is that this app is a piece of malware that cannot ever be uninstalled. 0/10 — would not recommend.
